2017 Hall of Fame Inductees
The SDML Hall of Fame honors those elected and appointed officials and employees who have served municipalities in South Dakota for 20 or more years.
The SDML Hall of Fame is ongoing, if 20 years of service is completed by September 30, 2018 you are eligible to be inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2018 at the SDML Annual Conference in Pierre. Nomination forms will be available with other conference information in 2018. Terry Rowbotham, Arlington, 25 Years
Tessa Anderson-Voyles, Belle Fourche, 22 Years Tessa Anderson-Voyles started working with the City of Belle Fourche Park Maintenance Department in May 1995 as a seasonal employee and worked summers through 2001. In 1999, she also became an aerobics instructor at the Belle Fourche Area Community Center while attending Black Hills State University. In 2001, after graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Wellness Management, she became the Program Coordinator at the Community Center. Tessa is married to Cory Voyles and they have two children, Aiden and Aurora.
Dirk Hoffman, Belle Fourche, 22 years Dirk Hoffman started as Maintenance worker for the City of Belle Fourche in the Streets, Water and Sewer division of the Public Works Department in May 1995. He later moved to the Landfill division and worked there until 2000. He went back to the Streets, Water and Sewer division in 2001. In 2002, he became Interim Superintendent of Public Works and later in 2007 took on the job of Superintendent of Public Works. Dirk is married
to BettyJo. He has two grown daughters, Taylor and Randi, one grown son, Trevor and step-daughter, McKenzie. He also has one grandchild.
Vicki Ross, Belle Fourche, 26 years Vicki Ross started at the Belle Fourche Public Library in September 1991, where she has seen a lot of changes through the years. She has worn many hats since starting at the library, but most enjoys helping with the children’s programs and puppet shows. They have had a couple of large projects with the library addition and new carpet (that was a FUN move). The last couple of years the library has switched over to an automated checkout system. Vicki is married to Howard Ross, they have two children, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Bill Burelson, Deadwood, 20 Years Bill began his employment February, 18, 1997 as a Parks Technician. After two years he transferred to the Street Department and in 2002 was awarded the position of Street Superintendent. He says he really enjoyed working with the Parks Department and has gained “loads” of experience as Street Foreman dealing with all of the challenges that come with the job. In his spare time he enjoys working around the house and spending time in Mexico with his best friend and wife, Chris. They have two boys, Chance and Bo.
Carol Hauck, Deadwood, 27 Years Carol started her employment with the Deadwood Public Library on February, 24, 1990 as a part-time aide. She later went full-time and has been employed at the Library for a combined total of 27 years. She grew up and graduated high school in Rapid City, then attended Black Hills State University graduating with a degree in English. She later moved to the Lead-Deadwood area. Carol is the mother of two grown children; Lindsey and Evan.
Kip Mau, Deadwood, 20 Years Kip began his employment on February 18, 1997 as a Police Officer. He is currently the High School Resource Officer and has been an S.R.O.for the past 14 years. He is the Deadwood Community Policing Officer, Bicycle Patrolman, Firearms Instructor, D.A.R.E. Instructor and is A.L.I.C.E. Certified. He was honored as 16
