President's Report
I am hoping that this March issue of the magazine is finding you in warmer days. South Dakota certainly has had its share of cold weather this winter.
Promoting your town or city is always one of those things you want to stay up on. Wagner discovered one great way to do just this on January 29 by hosting Wagner Day at the Capitol. This was a great way for leaders from our community to network and visit with our district representatives and senator along with many other legislators. Our group was fortunate to connect with a representative that was able to help our city with an economic development project he is directly connected to. If we hadn’t gone to the capitol, we may have not made that connection.
Along with myself, we had our Chamber of Commerce president, chamber members, Wagner Area Growth president, and Labor Day Committee members all attend to help host the event. We provided a healthy meal of sub sandwiches, vegetables, fruit and cake. Well, the cake might not have been too healthy but it was sure good!
If your community is interested in hosting an event at the capitol, you must first fill out an application with the building and grounds office. This form can be found at http://boa.sd.gov/divisions/grounds/facility_use_forms.aspx. Please note that during legislative session, the dates fill
up fast. I just confirmed Wagner Day next year for February 11, 2015.
A nother gr eat w ay to network and promote your city is by attending the Municipal Rib Dinner which was held February 4, 2014. The ribs were delicious and the conversations were many. This event once again is a gr eat w ay to make connections or “catch up” with someone that you haven’t seen in awhile.
In about a month, I will be on the road for the district meetings. I am told they are a whirlwind and a great experience. I am truly looking forward to them all! Becky Brunsing President
