Performer Biographies
Alexa Schwartz
Alexa Schwartz, 21, of New York City, is a senior at Emory University double majoring in music on the vocal performance track and business with a concentration in marketing and arts management. She is a recipient of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus Scholarship and the 2018 Music Scholarship. She currently studies voice under Dr. Bethany Mamola and has been taking voice lessons for 10 years. At Emory, she served as Vice President of Aural Pleasure A Cappella where she managed the group and performs monthly concerts. She is a member of Emory Concert Choir as a Soprano 1 and has been a soloist at many choir performances. Beyond music, she serves as an Emory Student Ambassador, engaging with prospective students and families. Schwartz graduated from Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School as a voice major and was the recipient of the Isidore Russ Music Education award. She was also a member of the Young People’s Chorus of NYC, performing internationally and on national television. She looks forward to returning to New York City after graduation to pursue a career in marketing in the music industry.
Patricia Dinkins-Matthews
Patricia Dinkins-Matthews joined the faculty of Emory University Department of Music in 1998, where she is an Associate Teaching Professor and Chair of the Performance Area, teaching piano, vocal coaching, piano skills, and collaborative piano. She has been a member of the piano faculties at the University of Florida, Baylor University, the American Institute of Music Studies (Graz, Austria), and McLennan College. Dinkins-Matthews has an undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee and both a master of music degree in piano performance and a doctor of musical arts degree in piano pedagogy and performance from the University of Colorado. Dinkins-Matthews is an active solo and chamber music recitalist and has performed both in the United States and in Europe, including recitals in England, France, Austria, Belgium, and Germany. Among others, Dinkins-Matthews has been the pianist for the Florida Arts Trio and the American Chamber Winds (ACW), and she has appeared as soloist with the ACW, the Colorado Symphony, the University of Tennessee Orchestra, and the Florida Symphony Orchestra. DinkinsMatthews is the pianist for the Aevia Trio and is the associate pianist for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus. As a member of the Atlanta Symphony Chamber Chorus, she has performed many times in Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of Robert Spano, Donald Runnicles, Nathalie Stutzmann, and the late Robert Shaw. She is an approved adjudicator for the National Federation of Music Clubs and the Music Teachers National Association.
Jordan Averett (‘25B) is a senior at Emory University double majoring in Music (Vocal Performance) and Business (Finance), and studies voice with Dr. Mamola.
