Performer Biographies Choo Choo Hu has performed all across the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia as a soloist, chamber musician, and collaborative pianist. Recent solo engagements include appearances with the Atlanta Symphony, the Spokane Symphony, and the Atlanta Philharmonic. She frequently collaborates with the Atlanta Symphony as an orchestral pianist, and with the Atlanta Opera as music director/repetiteur. Hu is a founding member and pianist of ensemble vim, a 501c3 new music collective dedicated to bringing multidisciplinary performances of underrepresented living composers to underserved communities. Ask her about her dog Oscar, or about her dreams of someday opening a chamber music festival/farming co-op somewhere in the mountains. Alexandra Shatalova Prior is acting principal oboe of the Atlanta Ballet Orchestra and principal oboe of the LaGrange Symphony Orchestra. At Emory University, Shatalova Prior instructs oboe and chamber music as an artist affiliate and is program coordinator of the Emory Chamber Music Society of Atlanta. Her international performing career has included concerts with the National Jeugd Orkest of the Netherlands, the St. Petersburg Chamber Orchestra, and the Orchestra of the Restoration in venues such as the Berlin Konzerthaus, Amsterdam Musiekgebouw, Graz Stefaniensaal, and the Mariinsky Theater. Shatalova Prior has doctoral and masters degrees and an Arts Leadership Certificate from the Eastman School of Music, where she studied with Richard Killmer. Her undergraduate degree is from SUNY Potsdam Crane School of Music, where she studied with Anna Hendrickson. She has been on faculty at the University of West Georgia, Nazareth College, the SUNY Potsdam Crane School of Music, and the Eastman Community Music School, where she received the 2012 Jack L. Frank Award for Excellence in Teaching. Shatalova Prior’s 2024 performances include Rigoletto and La Bohème with the Atlanta Opera, the North American premiere of Coco Chanel with the Atlanta Ballet, and a performance at the Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival. Shatalova Prior lives in Decatur, Georgia, with her composer/ conductor husband Richard Prior, son, two stepsons, and two cats. 5


Praised for her vibrant sound and powerful musicality, Cuban-American flutist Alina Windell has captivated audiences throughout the United States and abroad. Windell teaches flute at Huntingdon College and the Orfeo International Music Festival in Italy, and in 2023 served as visiting instructor of flute at Columbus State University. She has been a prizewinner in the American Prize Instrumental Soloist Competition and the National Flute Association (NFA) Convention Performers Competition. Windell has performed at NFA Conventions in Orlando and San Diego, the Flute New Music Consortium Festival, Mid-Atlantic Flute Festival, MidSouth Flute Festival, San Diego Flute Festival, Houston Flute Club Flute Fest, and Colorado Flute Association Festival. Solo and master class engagements include a sponsored concert tour of Malaysia, the University of Wyoming, University of Alabama, University of Colorado, University of Nebraska, Columbus State University, Sunway University in Kuala Lumpur, the Kinta Valley Wind Ensemble in Malaysia, and Auburn University. Windell is principal flute of the LaGrange Symphony Orchestra and performs with Duo Flautas Frescas. She regularly subs with the Atlanta Ballet Orchestra and the Columbus Symphony, and has performed at the Springer Opera House, with the Albany Symphony Orchestra, South Florida Symphony Orchestra, Lynn Philharmonia, Bloomington Camerata Orchestra, the National Orchestral Institute Festival Orchestra, and the Opera Theatre and Music Festival Orchestra of Lucca in Italy. She has recorded for Naxos and Centaur Records, and is a commissioning member of the Flute New Music Consortium. Windell has adjudicated for the NFA, the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival, the San Diego Flute Guild, the Flute Society of Greater Philadelphia, the Alabama All-State Orchestra, the Atlanta Flute Club, and the Arts Association of East Alabama. She completed her undergraduate studies at Indiana University, her masters with renowned flutist Carol Wincenc at Stony Brook University, and doctoral degree from the University of Colorado. Windell is currently serving as immediate past president and competition coordinator of the Atlanta Flute Club, in addition to teaching music courses at Auburn University and maintaining a private flute and piano studio (alinawindell. com).
