Spring Edition 2010

Dear Unity Family,

I

t’s Spring! A time of renewal as we prepare to plant the seeds for our future. As I write this I am looking out at yet another snow fall. After the years of drought Rev. Sydney Magill-Lindquist that affected our area, to see the earth so richly blessed, I know that we will have a bountiful spring time ahead of us. I have talked to so many in our church about planting gardens. It reminds me of this parable of Jesus: “With what can we compare the kingdom of God?..It is like a mustard seed, which sown upon the ground, is the smallest of seeds on the earth, yet when it grows up..it puts forth branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade.” (Mark 4:31-32) I love this passage in Mark for Jesus puts forth a humorous parable. Mustard plants are small weeds or shrubs. How can birds make nests in the shade of a shrub? How does that compare with God’s kingdom? How easy it is to under estimate the power of God. When we are ready to receive the guidance and wisdom of God, even the smallest seed we plant can become a mighty work. It is our job to become “SPRING PLANTING” - by Carol Marine receptive to this wisdom and guidance, to prepare ourselves as we prepare the earth for planting, through our understanding of the teachings of Jesus. Join us through the spring for our classes, our Easter Celebrations and all our activities for preparing ourselves to receive the blessings of a bountiful spring as we reach for the sky at Unity of Gainesville. Holding you in the Light and Love this season...

Drumming Circles The Third Jesus:

First Wednesdays

The Christ We Can’t Ignore

March 3, April 7, May5 7:30 PM In the Sanctuary

Wednesdays 7:00 PM March 10th - 31st April 14th & 21st In The Third Jesus, bestselling author and spiritual leader Deepak Chopra provides an answer to this question. The answer is both a challenge to current systems of belief and a fresh perspective on what Jesus can teach us all, regardless of our religious background. There is not one Jesus, Chopra writes, but three. This Wednesday night series will be a follow up discussion to the topic begun each Sunday through March. Complete with a movie created by Unity House, we can hear Deepak Chopra’s view point through his conversations with Unity minister Wendy Craig-Purcell as they discuss how Christianity fits within a context of contemporary spiritual beliefs and practices. Join us for this new understanding about the remarkable man from Galilee. Love Offering

A Course In Miracles is a book about how to heal our minds, for this is where the source of all our physical and psychological suffering lies. The aim of the Course is for us to achieve a state of inner peace, a quiet joy, no matter what we are doing, who we are with, or where we may be. It does this by teaching us a new way of looking at the world. This change of perception is the miracle - hence the title of the book

Next Generation Unity

Yard Sale

7:00 AM Easter Sunrise Service “From Jesus to Christ”

April 10th 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Celebrate Easter morning with a special outdoor service as we explore the revolutionary man from Nazareth. His death AND his resurrection tell a story so compelling, that 2000 years later, the world is still living it today. This is no ordinary story and the forces that were at work in the actions in Jerusalem that week are still being played out in our time.

Next Generation Unity still needs your unwanted items! Please continue to drop off items anytime Sunday through Thursday in the storage building beside the church. Items will be sold in large yard sale.

Annual Brother’s in Spirit Easter Morning Breakfast 8:00 - 9:00 AM

Enlightened Leadership Training & Pot Luck Tuesdays, April 6th, May 4th - 6:00 PM

9:15 AM Peace Service 11:00 AM Celebration Service “Jesus Alive Today!” Join us Easter Sunday for our Peace Service and Celebration Services. Our Celebration Service will be filled with special music and the high joy we always experience at a Unity of Gainesville Easter morning. Easter is a day to Celebrate the Life that Jesus taught us to live. During Children’s Church at 11:15 AM Annual Easter Egg Hunt

Have each child bring a dozen stuffed plastic eggs and their Easter baskets for our annual Easter Egg Hunt.

Good Friday Service 7:00 Friday, April 2nd Look at the events that led up to this day. How was the story of Jesus shared by those that knew him and how was his message spread. Join us for a service that looks historically at the traditions at the time of Jesus. This includes a Communion ceremony in the tradition that Jesus actually taught.

All proceeds will benefit the Playground Fund

What are the spiritual tools needed for Enlightened Leadership in our time? Each month, we look at effective ideas for leadership that prepare us with the skills of Enlightened Leadership for our church and our world. Bring a dish to share.

Conscious Communication In 6 Weeks Wednesdays 7:00 PM Beginning Wednesday, April 28th Rev. Sydney Magill-Lindquist

Have you ever not had the right words at the right time? What you mean to say comes out all wrong? Whether in conversation with your spouse, your children, or at work, this class will give you the tools to improve the flow of information in your conversation as it helps to resolve differences peacefully. Now compassion becomes our motivator instead of fear, guilt, blame or shame. It is based on the book Nonviolent Communication A Language of Compassion Love Offering (A Unity Continuing Education Class)
