Half Term 5 Curriculum Plan Short stories continued: Students will read a range of short stories and extracts from the detective genre to deepen their understanding of the structure and conventions of this form of writing. Frankenstein-The play: Students will study the famous gothic story in the form of the play. In this half term, students will explore the dramatic conventions of the play as well as analysing the characters. Animal Farm continued: Students will study this classic novella to develop their analytical reading skills and to practice their response to a whole text. Of Mice and Men continued: Students will analyse the characters and themes in this class reader. They will develop their skills in responding and analysing extracts and linking it to the wider text and context. Non-fiction Reading: Students will read and compare two pieces of non-fiction from across different eras. In line with the GCSE English Language criteria, reading skills include selecting and retrieving, analysing language and structure; synthesising and comparing information. Fiction reading: Students will revisit the reading skills including comprehension’ analysing language and structure and synthesising information in line with the GCSE English Language criteria. Early 20th Century poetry: Students will study a selection of poems from the GCSE Literature anthology. Students will gain a knowledge and understanding of the 20th century context and how to apply this effectively when analysing poetry. An Inspector Calls continued: Students will continue the study of this 20th century play. Students will gain knowledge and understanding of the characters and themes; be able to comment on the stylistic choices made by the playwright; as well as develop their skills in analysis in line with the GCSE English Literature criteria.

Students will be extending their knowledge from KS3 and applying them to more complex problems. Higher topics: Topics: Angles, Pythagoras and Trigonometry and Proportion. Students will be extending their knowledge from KS3 and applying them to more complex problems. Foundation topics: Angles, Transformations, Constructions and Proportion. Students will be using visual representations and physical resources to gain a deeper understanding of these topics. Higher topics: Transformations, Quadratics including graphs and Functions. Students will be using visual representations and physical resources to gain a deeper understanding of these topics. Foundation topics: Probability, Transformation and Constructions in preparation for the exam. Higher topics: Loci and Bearings, Probability and Direct / Inverse Proportion in preparation for the exam.
