Half Term 5 Curriculum Plan Short stories continued: Students will read a range of short stories and extracts from the detective genre to deepen their understanding of the structure and conventions of this form of writing.

Frankenstein-The play: Students will study the famous gothic story in the form of the play. In this half term, students will explore the dramatic conventions of the play as well as analysing the characters.

Animal Farm continued: Students will study this classic novella to develop their analytical reading skills and to practice their response to a whole text.

Of Mice and Men continued: Students will analyse the characters and themes in this class reader. They will develop their skills in responding and analysing extracts and linking it to the wider text and context.

Non-fiction Reading: Students will read and compare two pieces of non-fiction from across different eras. In line with the GCSE English Language criteria, reading skills include selecting and retrieving, analysing language and structure; synthesising and comparing information.

Fiction reading: Students will revisit the reading skills including comprehension’ analysing language and structure and synthesising information in line with the GCSE English Language criteria.

Early 20th Century poetry: Students will study a selection of poems from the GCSE Literature anthology. Students will gain a knowledge and understanding of the 20th century context and how to apply this effectively when analysing poetry.

An Inspector Calls continued: Students will continue the study of this 20th century play.

Students will gain knowledge and understanding of the characters and themes; be able to comment on the stylistic choices made by the playwright; as well as develop their skills in analysis in line with the GCSE English Literature criteria.

Energy: Students will study energy stores and transfers, energy efficiency including calculations. Conduction, convection, radiation and insulation, power and energy, energy in the home. Renewable and non-renewable energy resources Biological processes continued: aerobic and anaerobic respiration, respiration in yeast. Leaf structure, photosynthesis uses of glucose and plant minerals.

Forces and Motion: Contact and non-contact forces. Resultant forces, gravity. Weight and pressure.

Infection and response: Students will study pathogens and the spread of disease. How the body defends us against disease. How new drugs are developed and diseases in plants.

Half Term 5 Curriculum Plan Our Island Home: Students will develop their knowledge of the UK by studying it’s vast coastal areas and exploring the landforms that are created by coastal processes.

Our European Neighbour: Students will begin to grow their global knowledge by exploring the continent of Europe.

Amazing Asia: Students will begin by exploring the amazing geography of the African continent. Here they will focus on the human perceptions of Africa alongside how the development gap in Africa can be reduced.

The Challenge of Resource Management: Students will begin their GSCE journey by investigating resources and how they’re managed across the globe/

River Landscapes: Students will develop on their previous understanding of rivers and their processes. Students will study how rivers work, the formations they create, as well as the ways in which they impact the UK. Retrieval and Revision-Students will continue to focus on the assessment objective of their GCSE Geography course. They will look at example questions and model answers. Students will carry out retrieval tasks based upon prior learning of topics such as Urban Development and Tectonic Hazards.

Half Term 5 Curriculum Plan Muck and Misery: Was life for ordinary people always hideous in the Medieval period?

Students will examine the life of peasants in Medieval England, how did they live and why were they unhappy with their situation. Students will focus on key events such as the Black Death and the Peasants Revolt.

How did a tiny island come to dominate half the world? Students will examine the British Empire, and its legacy. Students will look at how the British Empire was able to dominate.

Students will focus on the links between Empire and Slavery and will question whether cities such as Liverpool should be proud of their links to the enslavement of Africans.

What was life like in Nazi Germany? Students will focus on the 1930’s in Nazi Germany. They will look at what life was like for ordinary people living under Hitler’s control. Students will focus on the lives of Jewish citizens and how their lives were affected by the Third Reich.

Elizabethan England: Students will examine how Elizabeth I ruled England. They will explore the obstacles she faced as a female monarch and how she was able to overcome her problems to bring England into the golden age.

Retrieval and Revision: Students will continue to focus on the assessment objective of their GCSE History course. They will look at example questions and model answers. Students will carry out retrieval tasks based upon prior learning of topics such as Medicine and Elizabethan England.

Half Term 5 Curriculum Plan Christian beliefs: Year 7 students are continuing to explore the concept of role models within the community and what their characteristics are. Furthermore, we will focus on some role models within different religions and how they have had an impact on people's lives.

Non-Religious World Views: Year 8 will begin to look at non-religious views about the origin of the universe, on the origin and use of religion and non-religious methods of making moral decisions.

Non-Religious World Views: Year 9 are continuing the non-religious world views module. They will start to explore the benefits of Utilitarianism and Kantian Ethics and debate whether morality is relative or absolute.

Marriage and Family: Year 10 are continuing their GCSE course by exploring different views about marriage and family life and why society has changed over the last 60 years and how different Christians and Humanists have responded to this.

Assessments: Year 11 are completing their course for the GCSE and focusing in on Marriage and Family, Christian Beliefs and Muslim Beliefs.

Half Term 5 Curriculum Plan Hobbies: Students will be introduced to present tense in detail in order to cover the topic of hobbies and sports, including the use of various verbs associated with this. Weather will also be covered in relation to raising level of speaking and writing when discussing hobbies.

Holidays: Students will review learning of town from Half-Term 1 by transferring this to the topic of holidays. We will introduce the preterite tense in order to be able to talk about a past holiday and review previous learning of present tense to be able to use multiple tenses together in all skill areas.

Global Issues: Students will recap learning from Year 8 on town and use this as a steppingstone to including imperfect tense to explain how their town was in the past. Students will practise combining tenses. Also covered here will be recycling and moral issues.

Module 4 Interests and Influences: Theme - Identity and Culture: Students will continue to talk about their free-time activities and what they like to watch on television and why.

Students will develop the range of language used to discuss free time, sports that they play and role models who inspire them and why.

Language Skills and Techniques: Students will be developing and refining linguistic skills for use in all skill areas. The focus will be on identifying areas students find most challenging and practising techniques in these areas.

Half Term 5 Curriculum Plan Coding: Students will continue to develop an understanding of sequencing and iteration in programming. They will use computational thinking skills to code solutions to problems and debug existing solutions, using Scratch Coding: Students will continue to develop an understanding of sequencing, selection and iteration in programming. They will develop debugging skills by finding and fixing syntax errors.

They will be using python program to develop skills in a text-based programming language.

Representations- Students will learn how humans use symbols to record, process and transmit information. They will be introduced to binary digits as the symbols computers use to perform these tasks and focus on the representation of text and numbers. They will also manipulate images and sounds to gain an understanding of how these are also represented by binary.

Data Representation- Students will continue to develop and understanding of binary addition, shifts and hexadecimal conversions. They will also student how text, images and sound are represented by computers and how to calculate fie sizes using this data. Alongside this they will develop programing skills using the TIME method.

Retrieval and Revision-Students will continue to focus on the assessment objective of their GCSE Computer Science course. Students will carry out retrieval tasks based upon prior learning of topics such wired and wireless networks, systems architecture, operating systems and utility software, data representation and logic.

Half Term 5 Curriculum Plan Kandinsky Inspired visual interpretation of music. Students will produce images in response to pieces of music as part of an expressive mark-making focus.

The formal elements, beginning with drawing using guidelines, moving onto line including continuous line drawing and mark-making techniques. Then all aspects of shading and tone.

Sarah Graham inspired Sweets Project, students will continue working through the project stages including observational drawings, using the grid technique, using photography within their work and creating a final piece.

Students will continue working through a series of workshops investigating and trialling different art practices, techniques and processes. They will begin to establish their chosen area of study for their coursework portfolio and begin producing images relating to this topic.

Year 11 students will continue to develop the final aspects of their coursework portfolio they will continue to show refinement with media and composition. Some may produce a final piece to resolve their project. Students will have one to one tutorials during this time to assess their coursework portfolio.

Students will be exploring the script of ‘The Twits’ they will develop an understanding of scripts and explore the characters in the text through practical exploration.

Shakespeare Students will explore the play of A midsummer night's dream. They will understand the language and context of the play. Through practical exploration they will gain an understanding of the plot, characters and some production elements. Students will also be exploring the use of setting by performing in a site-specific area.

Devising from a stimulus Students will create and develop ideas from a variety of stimuli this will include pictures, a theme, a song or a news article. They will work collaboratively in a group to devise and perform a theatrical performance. Students will work together as performers but also as part of a production team adding in technical elements to enhance their performances.

Half Term 5 Curriculum Plan Menu ideas from The British Isles: Students will be able to investigate foods from the different parts of the UK. They will identify different traditional foods from England. Special foods from Scotland, Old fashioned foods from Wales, customary foods from Ireland and regional cuisine from Lancashire.

Foods from across the world: Students will be able to investigate foods from around The World, identifying which foods traditionally come from different countries across the globe.

Meat & Fish: Students will be able to investigate the different cuts of meat and how to identify a fresh fish. They will be able to identify different how to fillet a fish and dishes that could be produced using different round and flat fish.

Practical skills: Students will be able to recap on practical skills needed within the kitchen, focusing on dough and bread making. They will be focusing on the key area of food safety, including the different type of contamination and bacteria.

GCSE Preparation – Students will be revising and revisiting core topics, include nutrition, food choice, food provenance and food safety, to complete in class assessments.

Reducing the risk of Sports injuries: Students will explore what constitutes towards ways in which performers can reduce and prevent injuries occurring. They will outline the different factors, types of injury, how to treat injuries and medical conditions with exam preparation.

Sports Nutrition: Students will also complete the elements required to finalise their coursework for this unit.

Rounders GCSE preparation: Students will continue with the delivery and write up aspects of their NEA coursework. They will also be focusing on specific sports with regards to filming. In lessons the Students will also undertake revision of the key topics split up into various lessons, focusing on all the content from Year 10 and 11. A key focus will be on recall of information, creation of revision resources and completion of exam style questions.

Half Term 5 Curriculum Plan Following homework tasks set over the Easter holidays, students will return having chosen their individual theme for their coursework portfolio. Students will continue to work on a rota, assessing various aspects of equipment and producing imagery in school. They will be expected to edit their images using photoshop and continue to upload/document their work within either their powerpoint presentation or their sketchbook.

Following the collation of all photography work for each individual student any areas of the coursework portfolio that are incomplete should be identified. Students will then work to complete all previously started but unfinished areas of work. Students will have one to one tutorials during this time to assess their coursework portfolio.
