Year 1 Homework Overview - Summer 1

Year 1

Half-term: Summer 1

Theme: Shhh! Don’t Wake the Giant!

In Year 1, we believe that homework should consolidate the learning that has taken place in school and engage the children in sharing this new knowledge with their families. Please choose and complete at least 5 activities from the grid over the course of the half-term. Homework can be recorded in the homework book or brought into school in any other form (photos, posters etc). We teach the children to take pride and responsibility for their own work and therefore we expect each homework task to be completed with care and to the best of their ability.

We can’t wait to see your work!

Don’t forget to read your phonics books at home 3 times a week, as well as sharing other stories with people in your family. Please sign the reading diary when you do this so we can celebrate home learning with the children.

Below are some QR code links to games to practise reading common exception words.

Plant Picture!

In Science we are learning about plants. Can you draw a plant and label the key parts? We would love it if you could plant some seeds at home and watch them grow!

Giant description

As we are reading the story of Jack and the Beanstalk in English, can you draw a picture of the Giant and write some sentences to describe him. Try to include some amazing adjectives, and don’t forget a capital letter and a full stop in each sentence.

Weather

In Geography, we are learning about weather. Can you keep a weather diary for a week, recording elements such as rain, wind, cloud cover and temperature each day.

Number Bonds to 20

Please continue to practise your Number bonds to 20, including subtractions and missing number problems e.g 20 - ___ = 13

Phonics is fun!

In preparation for the Phonics screening in early June, please practise reading words containing the sounds attached overleaf. The QR codes will take you to some fun games to play!

Instructions

In our English lessons this half term we will be writing Instructions. Can you write a set of instructions for something you can do at home?

This could be making a sandwich or playing your favourite game!

Moving story books

In DT this half term, we are making a moving story book. Can you visit your local library and find a book with moving parts?

Counting forwards and backwards

Can you count forwards and backwards to 100? This can get tricky once we get past 50!

Children’s choice.

Do something fun as a family. This could be going for a walk, playing a game, or baking a cake. We would love to see some photographs of what you get up to, or just to hear all about it!
