Touch your ch - i - n Encourage your child to do it back to you so that they have to segment the word for you.

Writing Sentences Make up captions and phrases for your child to write. Remember to practise writing ‘tricky words’ e.g. The dog. A big cat. A red bus. The wet hen. Go to bed.

Recognising sounds Learn the sounds in the purple book and play I spy games with each new sound. Practise writing the letters using correct letter formation

Cut up Sentences 1. 2. 3. 4.

Sound Pack (zipper bag) Use the individual laminated letters to make 3 letter words. Suggest a word and ask your child to get the correct letters and make the word. As an alternative, you make a 3 letter word and ask your child to sound it out and then blend it together. Remember to use ‘robot talk’.

Write simple sentences and leave them around the house for your child to find and read. When they have found 3— give them a reward!

Tricky Words Look for these in newspapers and magazines. Let your child use a highlighter to spot these.
