Year 6 France Trip 2016 By Maisy Eade and Levi Hekkenberg On Tuesday 28th June 2016, 35 Year 6 pupils – from Grove and Reydon Primary Schools – had the amazing opportunity to go to the Opal Coast in France. The children arrived in school at 5:30am, bringing all of their luggage and were well prepared for the 5 hour bus journey ahead! Pupils got to know one another on the way to Dover and some of them managed to get some sleep. Around lunchtime, everyone boarded the DFDS ferry and began the short road trip to La Peupleraie hotel which would be their home for the next four days. Once they arrived, unpacked and had their first French meal, it was time to sleep. Overall, the children had experienced a very long and tiring, but fun day. As soon as day two started, students got ready for breakfast and talked about their day ahead. Today, they would be heading to the Bee Museum, the beach, the market, the aquarium as well as to the fun filled Flunch restaurant. At the Bee Museum, pupils learnt that there are three types of bees (the male, the worker and the queen bee).

During their time at the market, they learnt to ask for certain items of food in French.

They then ate the food on the beach whilst playing football and having a sand sculpting competition. Finally, the tired students explored the depths of the ocean in the aquarium where they got to touch stingrays. For dinner, the children ordered their meals at Flunch with the choice of “steak hachés, poulet ou poisson” with “une glace au caramel” for dessert.

Children had mixed feelings about their next day’s adventures. They were looking forward to an afternoon at the Aquapark but were anxious about trying out snails in the morning! Most children tried the different snail snacks, however, some didn’t like it so much. “I thought it was a good experience to try but I didn’t like it.” – Thomas Currie.

After their taste tests, the children enjoyed AquaLud (a waterpark) where they quoted “It was my favorite attraction from the trip.” – Elysia Harvey. They showed collaboration by looking out for each other on the scary waterslides.

Lastly, to end their day they got ready for a disco at their hotel, where Maisy Eade won the award for Disco Diva. All the children put in an exceptional effort and they all looked absolutely stunning! Overall, the French Trip 2016 was an amazing experience for all of us as well as the teachers. Here are some of their thoughts. “I thoroughly enjoyed every part of the trip. It was a great experience to share with Reydon Primary. The children’s behaviour was impeccable, I was extremely proud of them all for trying new things and really developing their French speaking skills.” – Miss Gamble “We loved meeting new people and working together on certain tasks. We also enjoyed having the responsibility of staying in our own hotel rooms.” – Maisy Eade and Levi Hekkenberg.
