Camping and Caravanning Highlights of 2022
Switzerland is the ideal playground for the development of the Turbo bikes.
Founded 1974 in California, Specialized’s DNA is programmed for speed and performance. The world’s best teams and riders rely on this brand’s products. So it’s no surprise that it was the Cham-based team that, in 2012, developed the first e-bike in the company’s history in Switzerland. And today is the global headquarters for the Turbo-series, Specialized’s e-bike label. A logical development for Content Manager Lukas Burkhart: “Everything that relates to the Turbo-series originates in Switzerland as we simply have the perfect topographic conditions. Thanks to the close cooperation between developers and top athletes, we promote innovations and thus continuously improve and enhance our e-bikes. We can test 58 |

our ideas practically right on our doorstep. You won’t find better conditions than this.” The cooperation with athletes not only produces unique models and technologies, but also new material. Again Burkhart: “Our main goal is the improvement of riders’ lives through innovations and inspirations. Here, the ‘Super Light’ technology has certainly been one of the most significant innovations in e-bikes in recent years. The idea behind this was the development of a light, yet powerful e-bike with agile handling. An e-bike that allows sporty people to let off more steam in less time; an e-bike that offers adequate support uphill and gives riders a much larger touring range. With
the ‘Super Light’ technology, we have created e-bikes that are easy to handle both in urban areas and outdoors. E-bikes that can easily be carried on stairs in an apartment block. Or, analogously, that can be shouldered on a trail without much effort if a stretch of a track is impassable.” The perfectly formed, sleek, narrow and unobtrusively minimalistic design lets riders forget that they are riding an e-bike. “The integrated Turbo SL system also offers excellent connectivity, e.g. to the bike’s display and to the Mission Control app. This allows riders to check their trip data live, adjust motor parameters, record or evaluate trips, or diagnose the system,” Burkhart adds. www.specialized.com/ de/en/electric-bikes
