Where form and function merge into aesthetics Berlin-based dentist and certified specialist for aesthetics and function in dental medicine, Dr Dana Weigel, follows the famous Bauhaus principle and relies on three components: colour, form and function. Based on this combination, she develops individual treatment plans, which help her clients achieve a bright smile. TEXT: MARILENA STRACKE I PHOTOS: DR. MED. DENT. DANA WEIGEL
For Dr med. dent. Dana Weigel, dentistry means passion. From the moment you enter the 19th-century, stucco-decorated building housing her practice, you feel you’re in good hands. The atmosphere is relaxed and calm. Contrary to the customs of our day and age, Dr Weigel spends a lot of time with each patient.
“As we all know, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But there’s a general agreement that beautiful teeth framed by healthy gums seem aesthetic and radiate a sense of vitality and health. Teeth are beautiful in so many different ways,” Dr Weigel enthuses.“As individual as a moment and as personal as a smile.”
Since 2009, she has been one of the few ‘specialists for aesthetics and function in dental medicine’, certified by the German Association for Aesthetic Dentistry – one of the highest qualifications in Europe. In addition, she’s also certified as a ‘specialist for reconstructive dental medicine, aesthetics and function’ by the European Dental Association. In 2013, she was called to be a member of the International College of Dentistry.
Her treatment spectrum ranges from single-tooth reconstruction, veneers and bleaching to complex interdisciplinary overall construction.

“It’s my passion to give someone a new smile,” the dentist explains. “My strength is the ability to develop concrete, feasible visions for aesthetic reconstructions out of the intersection of colour, form and function. Those visions become custom-
ised treatment plans. It’s very important to me that aesthetics and function go hand in hand. I don’t treat patients just to achieve cosmetic objectives. It’s important that teeth are functioning. Following that principle, a sensitive kind of aesthetics can be worked out.” She adds with a smile: “Fortunately, I’m able to cater to both aspects very well.” Her client base is fairly varied, ranging from famous people from the world of film and TV, to those who simply value quality and perfection. During seminars, workshops and lectures, Dr Weigel has consistently managed to convince her colleagues with her comprehensive expertise, extensive practical experience and her genuine enthusiasm for dental medicine.
