INNOVATIVE IDEAS FOR A SUSTAINABLE ENERGY TRANSITION The effects of climate change can no longer be ignored. It is high time to move towards a more sustainable future and use alternative energy sources on a large scale. Solafrica's KlimaTicket is a contribution to this.
generate from our Swiss solar power plants will go towards our charitable projects to promote solar energy in Africa.”
The independent Swiss non-profit organisation Solafrica was founded to promote solar energy. "Whether in Switzerland, Germany or Austria: we need the energy transition now. Worldwide. That's why it's important that not only politics and business, but also civil society get involved in promoting renewable energies," is the urgent appeal of Anna Opladen, fundraiser at Solafrica.

100% of the proceeds from the KlimaTicket go towards the construction of a solar power plant in Switzerland. But why should Africa benefit from a Swiss solar power plant? "The KlimaTicket has a double effect: Firstly, we are promoting the expansion of solar energy in Switzerland. Secondly, the proceeds we
Solafrica bears the Zewo seal of approval, is a member of the Climate Alliance and aligns its projects with the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Solafrica has also been awarded the European Solar Prize 2021/2022 for its achievements in the category 'One World Cooperation'.

To contribute to the energy transition in Switzerland, too, Solafrica has launched the KlimaTicket - a ticket that air travellers can buy in addition to their flight ticket. "It's very simple: go to the website and enter your departure and destination airports. The price of the KlimaTicket is then calculated based on the distance. For every kilometre flown, you pay one Rappen to help the climate. For a one-way flight from Zurich to Berlin, a distance of 652 kilometres, that would be six Swiss francs," explains Anna Opladen.

Solafrica acts. And above all, it is committed to spreading knowledge about solar energy in Africa as well. The global North is still responsible for the majority of CO2 emissions. However, CO2 emissions are also increasing in the global South. "If we want to supply the world with 100 percent renewable energy, solar energy must play a major role. This applies to almost all countries, but especially to those in Africa," says Opladen. "We want everyone to be able to use solar energy. That is why we are training solar experts in Kenya and Ethiopia, for example. We want to help ensure that these countries do not become
dependent on climate-damaging technologies in the first place, but that they quickly switch to climate-friendly solar technology."
