Can you tell us bit more about your self? where do you come from? and where do you live? My name is Tasha Serena, but most people call me Tash and I’m a sucker for sad songs and anything that is visually aesthetic *cringe*. I’m a mix of Indonesian x Canadian, I was born in Jakarta but moved to Bali with my family when I was 3 years old and have been living here ever since! What led you to a career in photography? do you have formal training in your background? When I was a little girl I was always drawn to Fashion TV and editorials in magazines, I myself was never a stylish kid but I always dreamed to be apart of the industry. From a young age I would take self portraits and I would also dress up my sister and occasionally her friends and photograph them around the house to kill time. I always had so much fun doing this and loved seeing and sharing the results and I knew I wanted to do this as a profession. I started working with brands before finishing high school and when I was 17 I moved to Jakarta to study more about photography for 2 years. Could you name some of the photographers that have inspired you and helped to shape your approach to photography? The list could go on forever! But some photographers that have inspired me the most have to be Irving Penn, Peter Lindbergh, Elizaveta Porodina, and Francesca Woodman. Their works have always made me have a certain tingle in my bones. What would we find in your camera bag for a typical assignment in studio or on location? Pretty straight forward, camera body, lens + the hood, charger with 2 batteries because I always like to be prepared and either tissue or a cloth because you never know when someone needs to blow their nose or if you have to wipe something away. I don’t like it when my camera bag is too stuffed, I like to keep it in order and then stuff my handbag with unnecessary items. What is your approach to lighting? do you prefer artificial or available light? Personally for me its natural lighting all the way! I only use artificial lights when I really have to, for instance when I shoot in a studio for look book. I like it when its organic and natural as much as possible.

INTERVIEW

How would you describe your aesthetic? When I take photos I always want to have a dreamy and unusual element to it, not necessarily by the tone but it always depends either from the scenery or the way the model is posing. Some have said my aesthetic is quite messy because I don’t follow all the basic photography rules. How do you keep yourself inspired? By not falling asleep during car rides. I get inspired really easy, by looking at random people walk on the road, from the way the wind blows the leaves, random song lyric. Basically by really being present with my surroundings. If not photography what would you be doing with your time? That’s a hard question to answer… I think if I wasn’t pursuing photography as my career I would still be taking photos on a daily basis as therapy haha. However I wouldn’t mind spending time building and running a creative agency. What has been the best advice given to you by another photographer? Somewhere along the lines of “you don’t need the best equipment to be the best photographer”. My first paid job I shot with my mirrorless Olympus Pen EPL-1 not a canon 5d and the client was still happy with what I created. Any advice for aspiring photographers? Keep trying new things! You can get inspired by other peoples works but always try put your own twist to it. Don’t be a copy of a copy and don’t be scared to be different. Your dream collaboration? GRACE CODDINGTON & MICHELLE LAMY. My heart will explode. What are you working on next? I’m still working on my website and I have a couple of shoots lined up with some amazing people. BRAND NOTICE

BY NATALIE REVELL VIKA Jewels new collection “Paradiso Perduto” is the Italian meaning for “Lost Paradise”. She created this collection upon the decision to leave her beloved little island of Bali, after many years and wonderful memories, she moved back to Germany and onto a new life. This collection represents the closing of one chapter and the hope and promise of new adventures and life. How do you get inspired to create your amazing pieces? I get inspired by my daily life, I like to surround myself with people whom I love and see then I see things that ignite a fire in me, like art, I feel this flames my creative process. When in that atmosphere my passion for design appears automatically - I design jewelry I would wear at that moment. I then hope that everyone likes what I create and lucky for me, they do! Why recycled sterling silver? When I started designing jewelry, I began to work with the metal that I liked to see my jewelry in, and that was definitely sterling silver. I love to recycle, and I do my best to be a responsible human being, as we all should. Working with recycled sterling silver has and always will be very important

to me, and I think it is one of the reasons VIKA Jewels will remain a stand out from other jewlery designers. Why Bali as your design base? The base where my jewelry is made is a friendly and loving atmosphere, in Bali and has its own working spirit. It took me a few years to find my fantastic factory, but when you find the right people to work with, everything just clicks and falls into place. My team understand me and give me a good feeling every time I am there, we talk and laugh together, they are my friends. They provide me with advice on how to improve my designs, as sometimes my creations are too absurd or not doable and they let me know it! We always find a way to create what I am envisioning but in a realistic way. The owner of my factory is a beautiful lady both inside and out, from Switzerland. I appreciate their input very much, and my designs would not be possible without my incredible team. I think that is also an essential detail in the quality of VIKA jewels.

HOROSCOPE Artwork by Moodscape

AQUARIUS You love expressing yourself through fashion and are a true trendsetter. By mixing pieces from different designers you create fresh looks of your own. Plus, your sense of humor shows when you don whimsical items, like shockingblue pumps.

PISCES You prefer soft fabrics, such as silk, chiffon and velvet, and glamorous evening looks that filled with lace. High heels may be your first and one true love. You adore heels in all styles, even if you don’t wear them that often.

ARIES You pick up on trends early—adding fresh twists to make them your own, of course. You love details and favor clean, dramatic lines, but whether you sport casual workout duds or slip into a sexy mini, your confidence is always your best accessory.

TAURUS You’re committed to investment dressing: Classic pieces in neutral tones and interesting textures make up the bulk of your wardrobe. For added sparkle you choose earrings made of gold or gemstones.

GEMINI You choose clothes in classic shapes and styles but continually reinvent your look by wearing them with statement pieces from your vast collection of accessories.

CANCER No tomboy, you like to celebrate your femininity through fashion by choosing soft fabrics like silk, satin, and liquid jersey. You also favor pieces with subtle luminosity, like a knit tank in shimmering silver.

LEO You love designer clothes and have very sophisticated taste. You prefer to buy only the very best, like an exquisite pair of shoes or a limited-edition handbag, rather than scores of lesser wares.

VIRGO You seek out elegant, beautifully detailed pieces, such as an impeccably tailored trench or a wellfitted pima-cotton shirt. Striking designs catch your eye, but you shy away from anything too flashy or trendy.

LIBRA A true fashion lover, you are usually the first to try a new look. Overall you favor ultra-feminine, soft clothes like tiered skirts, chiffon cocktail dresses, and French lace lingerie.

SCORPIO Versatile, well-cut staples in neutral hues, like luxe leather knee-high boots or a plush velvet blazer, are your fashion favorites. You like to look ladylike but with an edge. This style strategy keeps the focus firmly on you, not your outfit.

SAGITTARIUS Relaxed elegance is your signature look. You favor menswear, like tailored trousers, worn with subtly feminine tops. When it comes to accents, you tend to wear one stunning piece, such as an oversize cocktail ring.

CAPRICORN You prefer beautifully cut classic pieces made of superb quality fabrics for an overall look that is ladylike with a touch of old-school glamour. Luxurious staples like a taupe cashmere sweater, a cream-colored silk charmeuse blouse, and tailored black pants are the backbone of your wardrobe.
