Newsletter - Issue 2

DEAR COLLEAGUE Welcome to the latest edition of your newsletter dedicated to sharing with you all the latest updates on the improvements that we are making as part of the Emergency Care Transformation Programme.

OUR WORKSTREAMS

Due to the ongoing high demand for the services that you all provide, it has been a significantly challenging few weeks. I recognise

that it can be difficult to do your day-to-day roles and also focus on the improvements we need to make, so I am incredibly grateful for your commitment and support. We want to make our Emergency Departments a brilliant and safe place to work for everyone, so your input is so valuable in helping us to get it right.

Dear colleague, Since sharing with you the themes from the neutral evaluation, we have received some really helpful and pertinent feedback. In particular that the themes do not provide you with sufficient detail in order to support meaningful change.

We have met with the team who provided the neutral evaluation report and they have now provided a detailed report which will be shared with our teams in December. Briefing sessions are also

Zara Stubbs is Paediatric Lead Nurse for Accident & Emergency. Zara has been in post since the beginning of the year and with her support, our teams are already making a difference for our young patients and their families. Zara works between the Telford and Shrewsbury hospital sites managing and supporting a team of paediatric nurses and five ED play practitioners (two at RSH and three at PRH), whilst also working clinically. She also liaises with colleagues on the children’s ward. Among the priorities are improving paediatric initial assessment times in line with national recommendations and the requirements of the CQC, and we are already seeing improvements in this area. “I have made changes to our processes and procedures, including SOPs. This is to ensure that patients are receiving the right care at the right time, in the right place. The feedback that I have had from the teams has been very supportive,” she said. This work builds on previous improvements required by the CQC including the creation of a dedicated children and young person’s waiting area at RSH, which features artwork from the Doodle Boy.
