The Trust Celebratory Awards 2024 are open for nominations!
As part of Values Week, we are delighted to open the Trust Celebratory Awards 2024.
This is your opportunity to nominate and celebrate the outstanding dedication and commitment of your colleagues and their teams, and the truly wonderful work they do every day across so many services in our hospitals and the wider community to support our patients and their families.
We have an array of award categories, including some new ones, showcasing how you are achieving
our vision – to provide excellent care for our communities we serve – and living and breathing our values – Partnering, Ambitious, Caring and Trusted.
This year the awards ceremony will be in person, so all finalists will be able to celebrate together at The Telford Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort on Friday 15 November. Nominate by Friday 9 August: trustawards.co.uk
Values Week has provided us with an opportunity to celebrate our commitment to our values, recognise the important role they play in everything they do and the difference that living our values can make to our colleagues and patients.
Thank you to everyone for getting involved, whether you made your pledge to our values, attended a session, dressed up or updated your Values Behaviour Framework.
We’ve been out and about the last few weeks and have asked many of you what values mean the most to you and how you live the values in your teams. Watch these short videos by clicking on the below pictures…
Partnering Caring
Ambitious Trusted
Thank you to our colleagues who live and Partnering
League of Friends
League of Friends (LoF) has been working in partnership with the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital since 1966. The LoF supports the work of the hospital in many ways and is always there for patients, relatives and colleagues.
Sue Hurdiss has been working for LoF since 2007. Her role, Organising Secretary, is varied and involves running the office, dealing with legacies and donations, processing payment of funding requests
and sharing good news stories about how generous donations and kindness are helping to improve patient care.
The partnership works especially well when it comes to providing our patients and colleagues with everything they may need from the LoF shops.
Sue said: “I feel very proud to be part of the League of Friends and that we are working together for the benefit of all the patients and hospital staff.”
Ambitious
Our hospitals
Within the last year, the Trust has made incredible progress on the construction projects taking place across both our sites. Thank you to all the teams that have inputted and supported with these fantastic developments at both our hospitals, which will help improve our patient experience and care.
Improvements included:
• The Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) opened its first services and welcomed its first patients.
• The Princess Royal Hospital received a new look, opening its front entrance with an enhanced hospitality offer for patients, colleagues and visitors.
• Full Planning Permission granted for new healthcare facilities at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
• Progress on the new £3.6m gamma camera unit to be built at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital
• Our fantastic new Planned Care Hub opens at Princess Royal Hospital, enabling thousands more operations each year.
and breathe our values every day
Caring
Dawn Walder, Play Specialist, Paediatrics
Dawn has been with the Trust for 20 years and absolutely embodies the value of caring. Her day-to-day role involves so much more than can be put into words, but ultimately, she makes sure that children under our care are relaxed and comfortable during their time in hospital.
Dawn spends time building a trusting relationship with children and their loved ones, preparing and supporting
before and during procedures that can be difficult for our young patients to understand.
As part of this work, Dawn helped to pioneer a bloods clinic for children with additional needs.
One of our patients, Ray, who has known Dawn for years, says “Dawn is caring because she always makes sure I’m ok and that everything I need is in place for me so I don’t have to worry.”
Trusted
Ben Jenkins, Digital Training Manager
As part of the launch of CareFlow PAS and ED earlier this year, Ben was instrumental in designing and delivering the training before the implementation. He was open and honest about the key milestones we needed to hit and ensured we achieved them.
Ben’s role as the Digital Training Manager meant that he was responsible for making sure that the CareFlow modules covered
everything people need to know, without making the information overwhelming and stressful for new users.
With training targets of 90%, he had the challenge of making sure that training was available in multiple ways to suit colleagues. He was continuously learning different ways to ensure the information was accessible to everyone, such as online sessions, face to face sessions and refresher sessions. This built strong, trusting working relationships across the Trust.

Long Service Afternoon Tea
The Long Service Celebration event took place on Monday, with an afternoon tea held at the Wroxeter Hotel.
28 colleagues, with a collective of 865 years’ of experience between them, enjoyed a presentation from Louise Barnett and Sara Biffen.
The event celebrated their commitment to patients, to SaTH and the NHS over the last 25 and 40 years. A truly incredible achievement, and one that is very much appreciated by all colleagues, and especially by patients.
A fun reminder of some of the events of the last 25 and 40 years:
25 years ago – it was 1999 and some notable events that took place were
• Construction began on the London Eye and the Millenium Dome – which featured prominently
in the film The World is Not Enough with James Bond falling down it’s outside
• The UK experienced a rare total solar eclipse
• The number one album in the UK at the time was Millenium by the Backstreet Boys
40 years ago it was 1984, when
• The music industry made a significant contribution to famine relief in Ethiopia through the Band Aid charity single, “Do They Know It’s Christmas?”
• Torvill and Dean entered the record books by getting a perfect score across the board, winning a gold medal for ice skating at the Winter Olympics in Sarajevo
• The first Apple computer went on sale, priced at £1,840, which was considered to be relatively affordable at the time
• Princess Diana gave birth to her second child, Henry Charles Albert David
NHS Birthday

They delivered cakes, biscuits and other goodies as a token of appreciation to colleagues and to help spread some birthday cheer!
