CDC turns one!
Happy first birthday to the Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) in Telford.
Thank you to all colleagues who have supported and helped with the CDC at Hollinswood House, Stafford Park, since it first opened its doors.
We have now seen more than 72,000 patients since it first opened. After opening in phases, the following services are now available at the CDC - radiology, pathology, teledermatology and cardiorespiratory.
Inese Robotham, Assistant Chief Executive, and Anna Martin, Divisional Director of Operations – Clinical Support Services Division, had a walkaround at the CDC and shared cakes, fruit and water with colleagues as part of a birthday celebration.
PRH Swan Suite opens
Relatives of patients on wards 15 and 16 at PRH will now have access to a fully refurbished Swan Suite.
The suite has been developed by Jules Lewis, Swan End of Life Care Lead Nurse, and funded by the Swan Fund with Ward Manager Sharon Angelides and team. The suite will give relatives and doctors a space to have open and honest conversations about end-of-life care.
It was officially opened on Wednesday by Sharon and Claire Saphier, Matron. The refurbishment saw the suite decorated with new furniture purchased with thanks to the generous donations from the Swan Fund of SaTH Charity.

Freedom to speak up month
Every year in October we celebrate Speak Up Month – a month to raise awareness of Freedom to Speak Up (FTSU) and make speaking up business as usual for everyone.
Your voice counts
FTSU wouldn’t be possible without the FTSU guardians and FTSU ambassadors.
We are using Speak Up Month to promote the role of the FTSU ambassadors and enhancing this team by recruiting more. We are looking for ambassadors from all over the organisation, at every level.
The primary role of a FTSU ambassador is to raise awareness of FTSU and its role and purpose. The second is signposting and supporting colleagues who wish to raise concerns.
The role is open to all colleagues and we particularly encourage those from groups who are under-represented within the organisation such as workers with a disability, those from minority backgrounds, agency or shift workers, junior doctors and trainees. If you are an excellent communicator, have high levels of emotional intelligence and are a good team player, please think about applying
Speak Up masterclasses
Throughout Speak Up month we will be raising awareness of FTSU with various masterclasses taking place which can be booked via LMS

‘Off the Block’ abseilers raise more than
Fearless fundraisers collected over £25,000 in charity donations when they abseiled from the roof of the ward block at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
There was a carnival atmosphere when 39 hospital colleagues and supporters abseiled down the side of the building.
SaTH Charity, Lingen Davies Cancer Fund and the RSH League of Friends came together to organise the event.
All the money raised will be used to support patients and colleagues.
Thank you to all those who took part – it was a memorable day for the Trust.
Throughout October we are proud to join the nation in celebrating Black History Month. The theme for 2024 is ‘Reclaiming Narratives’, a commitment to correcting historical inaccuracies and showcasing the untold success stories and the full complexity of black heritage.
As a Trust that serves a diverse community, we take this opportunity to celebrate the contributions of black people – past and present – who have shaped our society, our NHS and our local communities.
Why Black History Month matters to us
At SaTH, inclusivity and respect are at the heart of everything we do. Our workforce and patients reflect a wide range of cultural and ethnic backgrounds, and we recognise the valuable contributions that black individuals have made and continue to make to our Trust, the wider healthcare system, and the country.
Black History Month allows us to reflect on the history, struggles, and achievements of black Britons who have been essential in shaping the NHS.
What to expect
Throughout October, we will share inspiring stories that have shaped our collective history. Also, keep an eye out for details on our Workforce Race Equality Network and upcoming events!
Get involved
Black History Month stands will be held on Thursday 10 October in the Mytton Restaurant, RSH, from 11am-1pm and also on Thursday 17 October in Captain Tom’s Courtyard, PRH, from 12-2pm.
The next Race, Equality & Inclusion meeting is on Wednesday 23 October at 10.30am on MS Teams.
Parking Updates
“
Thank you so much to all of you who have been supporting us to improve car parking for everyone. We have been seeing some improvement but are now appealing for more of you to do your bit.
“
More and more of our colleagues are discovering the benefits of the Park & Ride service running at both PRH and RSH sites.
With ample parking spaces available and shuttles running every 15 minutes, why spend time trawling for those elusive on-site spots? If you haven’t tried it yet, give it a go... you might just like it.
And to those of you who are already enjoying the benefits, thank you for helping to keep our car parks free for colleagues, patients, and visitors who need them most.
You can find more details including full timetables on the intranet.
We are commited to making the Park & Ride service work for as many of our colleagues as possible. If
you have any thoughts or suggestions, please drop us an email.
Liftshare
Liftshare is a fantastic app which helps colleagues to find a car-sharing match, with the average user saving over £1,000 per year on their daily commute, whilst reducing congestion and doing your bit for the environment.

What is Donate 2 Motivate?
We are on a mission to improve patient experience by sourcing clothing for our patients to motivate them to get dressed and get out of bed!
What you can do to help
We would love if colleagues at SaTH can join the movement and donate any unwanted clothes to the donation boxes at both sites (purple wheelie bins at RSH in link corridor opposite Ward 25 and PRH in the old league of friends next to Amazon lockers).
We are looking for the following items which should be in good condition and generally suitable for those aged 60+, we are looking for a variety of summer and winter wear:
• T-shirts & blouses
• Cardigans and jumpers
• Skirts and dresses
• Trousers & joggers
• Pyjamas
organised and stored on Ward 28 at RSH and Ward 9 at PRH to give to patients
What is deconditioning?
Deconditioning (noun, medical): The process of losing physical strength through being ill, injured, or not active. Deconditioning is a complex change that occurs in a patient's body following long periods of inactivity or bed rest. This a ects a patient's physical and mental health and ultimately results in functional decline, prolonged hospital admissions and increased mortality.
Why does this matter in the context of donating clothing? Long periods of time in bed wearing a hospital gown is not good for recovery. Providing patients with comfortable, warm clothes during their admission could motivate them to get up out of bed and mobilise.

I was a bit apprehensive about yet another move for this service to William Farr house site.
Having had my regular test I found that the facility and convenience was superb. Staff and volunteers as always very efficient and friendly.
My thanks to all involved in the decision and planning! The dedicated parking was an added bonus that I hope can be retained.
