27 January 2023

This quarter’s People Pulse survey closes on Tuesday 31 January.

It takes only five minutes to complete and asks you how supported, informed, motivated or anxious you may feel, and what support would make the biggest difference to your experience at work.

It also covers flexible working, health and wellbeing and hardship.

Results from the People Pulse survey inform local and national actions to improve the experiences of our people and patients.

Have your say here. Once this anonymous feedback has been collated we will share the actions we will be taking with you.

The NHS Staff Survey closed in November. The results will be shared with us, and you, in March. Hannah Walpole, Deputy Divisional Director, and Laura Graham, Divisional Director of Operations, both MEC, presented Mathew with his prize.

Hiking up the total for Doctors in Distress

Pete Checketts, an anaesthetics trainee currently working at PRH, who is planning to hike 85 miles in the spring for charity has already raised nearly £650 thanks to his colleagues.

He will be hiking for five to six days across the highest 20

Shropshire hills to raise funds for Doctors in Distress, a charity aimed at preventing suicide in healthcare workers.

Pete is aiming to raise awareness and funds for the charity.

He said: “I'm currently up to a

total of almost £650 which is amazing. This is all through staff donations. Thank you so much.”

If you would like to donate, Pete’s JustGiving page can be found here.

. . . winner of our holiday voucher

• Continued from Page 1

We want to make our organisation a great place to work for everyone, so thank you to everyone who completed theirs. By having your say, you will help us to continue our improvement journey and shape what we do next.

Prizes were available for individuals and teams who completed their survey including £50 high street vouchers, a spa day for two, a £500 holiday voucher and money to spend on health and wellbeing for

your team.

Mathew completed his survey and was contacted by the People and OD team not long after who revealed he was winner of the holiday voucher.

Mathew said: “I couldn’t believe it when I was told I’d won a prize, never mind the £500 holiday voucher! It was a fantastic call to receive and I’m so grateful – and pleased I completed the survey.

“The survey took me about 15

minutes to fill in and it was great to have the chance to share my thoughts and views on our workplace and what I think we should do going forward. We all have a responsibility to take part.

“Now I have my voucher, I’ll be holiday shopping in the next few weeks!”

More information about the NHS Staff Survey is available on the intranet. Keep your eyes peeled for the results coming soon.

Book in for your smear test

This week cervical cancer charity Jo’s Trust marks its Cervical Cancer Prevention Week and those who are eligible are being urged to book their cervical screening appointment.

It is important to make time for preventative screening and look after your own health.

We are still running the colleague smear service which allows you to book an appointment if you are due or overdue your smear. Bookings can be made via ext. 5969, 5968 or 5967.

There is no need to feel worried or embarrassed about the screening itself, as you will be put at ease. Screening really does save lives.

If you want to find out more about why cervical screening is so vital, visit the NHS website: www.nhs.uk/conditions/ cervical-screening

It is a great opportunity to get involved, meet the project team and have any queries answered. The team is keen to ensure that colleagues are involved in the planning stages. The event will take place on Wednesday 1 February, 23.30pm in the Lecture Theatre, PRH.

New-look Cancer Support Centre to open at PRH

The new-look Macmillan Cancer Support Centre is to be relaunched at PRH.

The existing centre has been extended into the former Rehabitat shop area at the hospital, creating a more friendly and spacious environment for any visitors.

Decorated in calming green and blues, there is now a room with plenty of information leaflets and help to hand, so visitors can just drop in or book an appointment. There is also a separate room for private chats.

The work has been funded by Macmillan Cancer Support, which is a charity providing specialist health care, information and financial support to people affected by cancer, and was supported by SaTH’s Estates Department.

Ella Sadd, Macmillan Support Centre Assistant Manager, pictured, said: “We officially open on Monday 6 February and our doors will then be open Monday to Thursday from 9.30am to 4.30pm. Come along to see us, we would love to see you.”

Please see the team’s invitation below.

Your wellbeing matters

Thank you for your phenomenal efforts in continuing to keep our patients safe and look after each other.

The impact on mental health and wellbeing must not be underestimated and it is really important that we look out for each other, and take proactive and supportive actions to support everyone’s mental health and wellbeing.

We want to ensure that our people are provided with the correct support and an environment that enables and encourages each of us to lead healthy lives and make choices to support our wellbeing.

There are many resources available to you to help with your health and wellbeing and for you to be able to raise concerns with confidence if necessary.

Details on our wellbeing packages are available on our intranet here. This includes physical, mental, financial and emotional support. Please know that this support is available to everyone

• It’s so important that everyone takes time for fresh air and exercise, stays hydrated and has the opportunity to rest.

• Care First can offer you counselling support that can be accessed 24/7. Please call 0800 174319 or click here for more information.

• The Trust has 18 trained Mental Health First Aiders and 19 trained Champions within the organisation. Mental Health First Aiders/ Champions are a point of contact if you, or someone you are concerned about, are experiencing a mental health issue or emotional distress. They are not therapists or psychiatrists but they can give you initial support and signpost you to appropriate help if required. There are plenty of different types of support out there, and Mental Health Aiders/Champions can help you access them. Click here for more information.

• In many situations, having someone to talk to can lighten our load; when we are listened to this helps us to feel valued. Therefore we have trained a group of staff from across the Trust as Peer to Peer (P2P) Volunteers to help support colleagues. P2P are trained to provide confidential, non-judgmental peer

support, signposting to other internal contacts where appropriate. P2P listeners are trained in supportive listening skills but they won’t be acting as counsellors. More information can be found here

• We have a number of network groups (the Disability, Ability & Wellbeing Network, the Race Equality & Inclusion Network and the Hospital Pride Network) who support our aims to improve our culture and I would encourage anyone who is interested in joining to click here to find out further information.

For a full list of other support available to you, including counselling, online support and free wellbeing apps, please click here

Please contact our wellbeing team at sath.ahealthieryou@nhs.net and they will be able to signpost you to the most appropriate help and support.

The final word...

I had an appointment with the endoscopy unit in Shrewsbury and another one in Telford.

I just wanted to say thank you for all the kindness and skilful attention that was shown me on both occasions.

I would be grateful if my thanks could be brought to the attention of the two departments concerned.
