As we step into a new year, I want to take a moment to reflect on all that we have accomplished together in 2024. This past year has been one of growth, resilience, and impact. From expanding our reach across Connecticut to strengthening partnerships and celebrating our new name, everyone ' s dedication has made a meaningful difference in the lives of the individuals and families we serve. I am incredibly proud of what we have built together and grateful for our team's passion and commitment.
I also want to extend my deepest gratitude to our donors and supporters. Their generosity fuels our ability to provide life-changing services and resources to children and adults of all abilities. Their belief in our mission empowers us to grow, innovate, and make an even greater impact in the year ahead.
As we celebrate, we also face an urgent challenge: advocating for the much-needed funding of Connecticut’s Birth to Three system. Unfortunately, the system remains severely underfunded, with no rate increases in eight years. In this legislative session, we will be actively advocating for the critical changes needed to ensure children receive vital early intervention services. Supporting families at this crucial stage of development is a priority, and we need your help to make our voices heard. To learn more about how you can help and read positive impact stories from families, please visit the Kidsteps section of this newsletter.
We will continue to innovate, advocate, and support those who rely on our services. Thank you for being part of this journey. I look forward to all that we’ll accomplish together in 2025. I wish everyone a joyful and fulfilling New Year!
DENISE DAVIAU CEO
We are thrilled to share that we are taking a big step toward going green and reducing our environmental footprint! As part of this commitment, we installed solar panels on the roof of our Westbrook location. This investment in renewable energy reflects our dedication to sustainability and aligns with our mission to create a brighter future, not just for the individuals we support but also for the planet.
By harnessing solar power, we are not only reducing our carbon footprint but also making a smart, long-term investment in energy efficiency. This initiative will help lower operational costs, allowing us to direct more resources toward our programs and services.
The 2025 Connecticut legislative session is underway, and critical budget decisions are being made. Birth to Three Programs, haven’t seen a funding increase in eight years. This leaves many children without the support they need during their most critical years of growth.
The first three years of life are a time of rapid development. Early intervention helps children with developmental delays build skills in communication, mobility, and learning, setting them up for lifelong success. Without adequate funding, many families can’t access these vital services.
Because of the fiscal guardrails, Connecticut has extra funds earmarked to cover its commitment to funding pensions. By advocating for changing the volatility cap, funds could be identified to provide a rate increase to essential programs like Birth to Three AND still meet the state’s commitment to funds pensions. Our voices can help make this happen!
Contact your legislators via email. Click HERE for an easy tool to directly message your legislators to share your story and urge them to support an increase. You can testify in person, or via written submission during this session. (We can help with this! Just ask!)
Spread the word with others that these programs are in danger and that we need to do everything we can for the children of Connecticut!
“He is running
now!
” “Their progress has been remarkable” “has given us strategies in sign language, speech, food, eating, and play”
“uses a lot of words to express himself”

Jonathan, an individual in our Individualized Supported Employment (ISE) program, recently joined the Town of Guilford’s Parks and Recreation Department as a Kitchen Assistant. In this role, he helps prepare and serve meals for the Senior Lunch Program and Meals on Wheels, as well as assists with cleanup.
Since starting, Jonathan has become an integral part of the small kitchen team, stepping up to take on new responsibilities when needed. His dedication and positive attitude have earned him the respect of both his coworkers and the residents he serves. His enthusiasm is contagious; he’s often seen smiling and laughing with his team.
During the department’s Thanksgiving celebration, Jonathan and a fellow kitchen staff member brought joy to 175 residents by singing karaoke, making the event even more memorable.
We are proud to support Jonathan in his role, and we celebrate his achievements as he continues to grow in his career!
Every year, our Adult Services Employment Program brings holiday cheer to individuals with a holiday-themed party. This year ’ s celebration was held at the Shelton Community Center, where everyone gathered for a memorable event.
This party was a wonderful opportunity for individuals to get into the holiday spirit. Guests arrived dressed in their favorite festive attire, adding a splash of seasonal joy to the occasion. Throughout the event, they had the chance to create beautiful, handmade holiday cards, allowing them to express their creativity and spread love to families and friends.
It also served as a heartwarming reunion for many, as friends and colleagues reconnected and shared stories from the past year. One of the highlights of the event was the photo booth, where attendees captured fun and festive memories to cherish for years to come.
Our Adult Services Employment Program’s holiday party is more than just an annual tradition, it’s a celebration of community and the joy of the season. Everyone is already looking forward to the next gathering, eagerly anticipating another memorable event hosted by our dedicated staff.
Katie recently marked her two-year anniversary as a valued employee at Michael’s craft store! A dedicated individual in our Individual Supported Employment (ISE) program, Katie’s journey began on a Transitional (TRN) Program crew, where she honed essential cleaning skills that prepared her for competitive employment. After successfully moving on from that program, she advanced to ISE and secured her role at Michael’s.
Katie takes pride in keeping the store spotless. Her responsibilities include sweeping the sales floor, operating the floor cleaner machine, vacuuming carpets, tidying shelves, and maintaining the restrooms and breakroom. On delivery days, she also lends a hand with stocking shelves, demonstrating her versatility and strong work ethic.
Congratulations, Katie, on this milestone achievement!
Megan is supported in our Individualized Day Community - Day Support Option (IDC/DSO) program as well as our Individualized Supported Employment (ISE) program.
In the featured photo, Megan proudly holds a mug she painted at Fired Up! in Branford, one of her favorite local spots. When she first began visiting the studio, she often sought guidance from staff on what to paint and which colors to choose.
Over the past year, Megan has grown more confident in her creative decisions, now selecting both the pieces and colors independently, a testament to her increasing self-assurance and artistic expression
Our IDC/DSO program provides personalized support through one-onone staffing, empowering individuals to explore opportunities within their community.
They enjoy engaging in activities such as workout classes, volunteer programs, and recreational outings like visiting art fairs, museums, movies, or bowling. The program ’ s core focus is on fostering meaningful connections between individuals and their communities.

With everyone ’ s support, all donations were delivered to the Community Dining Room and the Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen (DESK), providing nourishment and care to individuals and families facing food insecurity.
Everyone’s kindness and generosity ensure that our programs can continue supporting the broader community. We are grateful to everyone who participated!
This winter, individuals from our Madison and Westbrook Enrichment Programs had an exciting visit to Project Oceanology, where they explored the fascinating world of Gyotaku, the traditional Japanese art of fish printing. This unique art form, which dates back to the mid1800s, was originally used by fishermen to record their catches. Today, it is celebrated as a beautiful and expressive technique.
After learning about the history and behind Gyotaku, individuals had the to create their own stunning fish pri home. It was a hands-on, interactive that combined art, history, and mari —perfect for sparking creativity and conversation!
Ms. Karen and her delightful companion, Chester the costume trunk, brought holiday cheer to our North Haven location! The celebration began with a joyful sing-along featuring songs honoring Hanukkah and Christmas, setting the stage for a festive and heartwarming experience. Following the music, Ms. Karen led a lively performance of The Gingerbread Boy, inviting everyone to take part in the show. The interactive experience brought smiles all around, making it a truly memorable event for all.
Through events like these, individuals have the opportunity to express themselves, engage with their peers, and enjoy meaningful experiences that enrich their daily lives
The spirit of the season was in full swing as individuals from our Enrichment Programs gathered at Westbrook for a festive Halloween party! The event was filled with laughter, creativity, and friendly competition as individuals enjoyed classic fall activities.
