A NOTE FROM DENISE

Dear Friends,

Spring is here, and we are excited about the changes that come with it!

Over the past few months, we ' ve been advocating for increased state funding for nonprofits like ours. While changes in federal funding continue to evolve, our commitment remains unwavering. We're staying focused and proactive in championing the individuals and families who rely on us every day.

We are thankful to the staff, supporters, and board members who provided testimony during this legislative season. Your voices have been powerful and essential to our advocacy work.

At the same time, we ’ re looking forward to the opportunities this season brings. From outdoor activities to new activities and initiatives, spring is a chance to reconnect, reenergize, and continue delivering on our mission.

We are also deeply grateful to our supporters; their support sustains our mission and makes our work possible. As we embrace the energy of spring, we ask, will you partner with us during our spring campaign to support life-changing programs and services to individuals with differing abilities? See our Spring Into Action page for details on how you can support us.

We appreciate everyone who helps move our mission forward, and we look ahead to the season with purpose and determination.

Central Legislative Breakfast

On April 1 , several members of the Lumibility team had the privilege of attending the Central Connecticut Nonprofit Legislative Forum as a sponsor. At this event, we actively advocated for increased funding and support for essential services that benefit our communities.

Stabilizing Connecticut’s nonprofits is critical, and we ' re grateful to be part of these important conversations. We thank the hosts, sponsors, and dedicated legislators in attendance.

Cassidy’s Journey: Thriving Thanks To Kidsteps Early Intervention

“My name is Jessica Reyes, and I am honored to share my daughter Cassidy’s journey with Connecticut’s Birth23 program. Our story began when Cassidy was 18 months old, and we noticed some developmental delays, particularly with her speech. Following a referral from our pediatrician, Cassidy underwent an assessment with [Kidsteps] Birth23. The evaluation revealed she needed speech therapy and occupational therapy services.

As a first-time mother with a husband actively deployed, I felt overwhelmed. However, the support and guidance provided by the [Kidsteps] Birth23 team were invaluable. The staff were not only knowledgeable and compassionate but also proactive in their approach.

Cassidy’s Journey: Thriving Thanks To Kidsteps Early Intervention (cont...)

Weekly sessions were conducted in our home, and I was taught exercises to practice with Cassidy to reinforce her progress. As her developmental needs evolved, the program seamlessly adapted to ensure Cassidy received the most appropriate interventions.

When Cassidy turned two, she was diagnosed with Autism. What could have been an even more daunting and confusing time for me was made manageable thanks to [Kidsteps] Birth23. The team provided clarity, thorough explanations of every step in the process, and unwavering support. They guided me through our options and helped integrate Cassidy into a classroom environment designed to meet her needs. Their comprehensive assistance was instrumental in setting Cassidy on the path to success.

Today, I am proud to say that Cassidy is flourishing in every aspect of her life. At seven years old, she is excelling in school as a first grader without requiring additional classroom support. Beyond academics, she is a dedicated member of her dance studio’s competition team and cherishes the time she spends with her friends.

I sincerely thank the [Kidsteps] Birth23 program for their exceptional guidance and services during those critical early years. My only regret is that our time with them could not have extended further. Their impact has been truly transformative, and I am forever grateful for the foundation they helped lay for Cassidy’s bright future.”
