IMINAL traces of time L
[Liminal] "threshold, beginning".
It is not being in one place or in another. It is being between one thing that has gone and another that is coming. Something that is no longer and that is to be.
It belongs to both situations and neither at the same time. It incorporates the dimension of time to understand that it is not the beginning or the end, it is about an intermediate zone. A space or a tangible emotional or metaphorical state.
For example, an airport as a waiting place, the transition to maturity, mourning for a loved one, a dream, a corridor that connects two separate rooms, are liminal processes.
Who has taught you to say gooybye? Where have you saved a farewell?
A dizziness in the stomach? I asked.
You have breathed the carbon dioxide of a love that has no fuel to continue but it can burn.

IMINAL traces of time. L
We are located in the Vigo estuary, in a border area: the breakwater of A Punta beach. The identity of this landscape is the rise and fall of the tides. The project covers two very contrasting scales:
Intangible scale: the cosmos. The tides are produced by the gravitational action that the moon and the sun exert on the earth. Therefore, time and water form the common thread of the entire architecture.
Tangible scale: the substrate. Textures bring us closer to sensory experiences. Therefore, the person is placed at the center of the whole process, projecting from the atmospheres (sensations), which give rise to the geometry of the project.
We work with the concept of limit: Sea-Earth Sky-Sea
Artificial-Nature
Bajamar-Pleamar
Stereotomic-Tectonic
It is projected as a cinematographic narrative, creating playful spaces and heterogeneous thermal baths that embrace all the particularities of the landscape. The idea is to transfer the agents that transform the coast of Vigo to each scene of the breakwater. Such as fog, erosion, the calm of the sea, the swell... The low and high tide activates and deactivates the programs. These events aim to recover the identity of Vigo.
The proposal dematerializes as it rises to dialogue and enhance the visuals without competing against them. So where does architecture end? It is understood that architecture is not only the merely built, but also the events that arise in its surroundings. For example, the shadows of the umbraculums that extend towards the sea are also architecture.
In short, it is a constant negotiation with nature in an open and dynamic way. The project, in addition to mimicking the environment, becomes a transforming agent of the landscape by disrupting the rhythm of the sea.
In this way it becomes evident how light, water and time become the construction material of the whole architecture.
