Florida’s higher education system is designed to allow students to seamlessly pursue a bachcelor’s degree by first earning an Associate in Arts (AA) degree at a Florida College System institution (such as FSW) and then transferring to a four-year institution (such as Florida Gulf Coast University). The School of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences provides students with the opportunity to study abroad, attend Model United Nations conferences across the U.S., and hone skills in their chosen discipline.

Encourages participation in the fine arts through theatre, music, and visual arts courses as well as performances and presentations by students and the community at our Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall, Black Box Theatre, and Rush and Rauschenberg art galleries.

Using FSW’s community ties, students are encouraged to participate in projects that impact our five county area and beyond.

In Real Life: In 2015, thanks to a partnership with a local advertising company, the artistic works of three FSW students were displayed on billboards across Lee County.

Offers a variety of multi-disciplinary courses that comprise of the majority of coursework needed for an Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree.

The School of Business and Technology...

Provides relevant and diverse workforce education programs culminating in associate degrees, bachelor’s degrees, or certificates.

Builds professional skills to enhance the value of its graduates in the workplace.

Accepts some college credit for high school career programs, technical center studies, Public Service Academies, or from an earned industry certification.

Offers industry certifications and internships in various fields of study that build professional skills to enhance the value of graduates in the workplace.

Participation in National and International Projects Courses in FSW degree programs encourage participation in projects that give students hands-on experience in their chosen career path.

In Real Life: In 2015, a group of Supervision and Management students formed a company in an international business strategy simulation and competed against their peers from other colleges worldwide. FSW’s teams placed in the global top 50, and, in the previous year, two FSW teams placed first worldwide as the overall best performing company.

OPPORTUNITIES TO EDUCATE THE COMMUNITY Graduates of bachelor’s degrees in the School of Education will meet the mandated state teaching requirements for certification in their area of study with Elementary Education and Middle Grades Language Arts graduates earning additional ESOL and Reading endorsements. Students pursuing our associate degree in Early Childhood Education can earn a National Child Development Associate (CDA) credential as part of their degree.

In Real Life: The School of Education bachelor’s programs earned an 85% job placement rate for their graduates in the 2014-2015 academic year.

Qualifies graduates to teach children in one of the many district schools, charter schools, private schools, or early childhood programs and centers located in Florida.

Offers associate degrees, bachelor’s degrees, certificates, and advanced technical certificates in the quickly growing health care field.

Hosts a globally recognized state of the art Simulation Education Center.

Boasts high graduation and certification rates such as a 100% pass rate on the National Dental Hygiene Board Examination (NBDHE) for 20 consecutive years.

FULFILLING CAREERS IN THE HEALTH care FIELD Seven FSW Health Professions programs boast a 95% or higher job placement rate for their graduates in the 2014-2015 academic year. Four of the seven programs achieved a 100% job placement rate!

In Real Life: FSW’s Respiratory Care program received the distinguished RRT Credentialing Success award in 2015 because more than 90% of the program’s graduates earned the Registered Respiratory Therapist certification.

ACADEMICS LEAD TO Hands-on Research Under the guidance of practiced Pure and Applied Sciences instructors, students will have the opportunity to explore their academic interests through research.

In Real Life: In 2015, two FSW biology students were selected to participate in an undergraduate research project to assist the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to predict red tide blooms, a common occurrence on the Florida Gulf Coast.

The School of Pure and Applied Sciences establishes a foundation for lifelong learning and prepares students to be thoughtful, informed, global citizens.

Provides the courses needed for transfer to upper division schools for Science, Engineering, and Mathematics majors.

Offers an Associate in Science degree in Science and Engineering Technology that prepares students for the scientific workplace.

Encourages student involvement in scientific research with recent research projects to include investigation of the DNA of people who are resistant to the HIV virus, the pollen preference of native Florida butterflies, and the impact of plastic waste on Southwest Florida’s beaches.
