ACCOMPLISHMENT REPORT CENTRE OF TEACHER EXCELLENCE (CoE) Centre of Teacher Excellence (CoE) Program was implemented at Gadag and Haveri on 2011 at the selected Government Schools. The title itself represents that the program is specially made for teachers. The CoE is the hybrid of Large Scale program (LSP). The Teachers are specifically provided with computer/laptop under this program. Thus creating easy access to the technology to teachers, for preparing effective teaching-learning materials for their classroom transaction. Through CoE, the teachers are encouraged to integrate Technology wherever necessary during their classroom transaction.

DONOR: “Applied Materials” well-known as “AMAT” is an American Corporation that manufactures innovative equipment and softwares’. It is one of the world’s largest suppliers of products and provides services. AMAT is a great patron to many Non Profit Organizations. In the chapter of AIF, AMAT is the biggest funder and the oldest active partner among others. It is with the support of AMAT , AIF has been able to reinforce technology in the classroom transaction at the selected Government schools in Karnataka. The Centre of Teacher Excellence (CoE) program in rural districts was introduced with the support of AMAT.

DURATION OF THE PROGRAM The CoE was implemented for 03years in a school with a MoU with the DSERT of Education Department.

FACILITIES PROVIDED   

1 laptop and 3 computers along with UPS for 15 schools A dedicated Hi-speed internet connection Cluster Coordinator to monitor and also to train the teachers

Program Details To build the capacity of teachers in technology and support the teachers to integrate technology and pedagogy in their classroom, AIF jointly worked with EZ Vidhya Academy and developed the training modules. The modules contain 85 hours of components which will take nearly 2 years to deliver the content. Considering the sustainability of the program, we continued for one more year, thus strengthening the teachers thorough mentoring by cluster coordinator.

OUTCOME OF THE PROGRAM     

Students have learnt to prepare the survey method projects with the integration of images and information outsource. Students have learnt Internet usage – Browsing information, downloading images Students have learnt collaborative learning – Working with team Teachers have learnt the usage of technology inside the classroom – Taking the laptop and CDs inside the classroom. CHALLENGES FACED During third year of the CoE program, the cluster coordinator used to visit the schools once in 15 days. At the same time the contract with other orgnisation and the Education department to maintain and manage the hardware ended causing hardware problems. The teachers were equipped to handle the minor issues but were not able to rectify the major ones, causing lapses in continuation of the program at some schools. Continuous Interaction with the Department officials have assured of rectification at the earliest. Some school head teachers have taken initiative and have rectified the system.

ACKNOWLEDGMENT DSERT and DIET:AIF thank DSERT and DIET for the great support provided for the betterment of DE Program. Few of the DIET faculties visited the CoE schools at Gadag and Haveri and gave the valuable feedback making the DE Program even stronger. They heartily welcomed AIF representatives to all the meetings and provided good opportunity to enrich and to bring the awareness about DE Program at all levels of Government Officials.

School Management and Teachers:AIF thanks and congratulates the school management and teachers for the extreme support given for the organization to implement the Centre of Teacher Excellence Program in their respective schools. AIF appreciates for integrate the technology and few pedagogic aspects wherever necessary. According to the AIF policy and as mentioned, the program is designed for 3 years. Initiated in the year 2011, the school teachers with support of AIF have been strengthened in the techno pedagogy. The teachers are using the technology regularly in their classroom transaction. The teachers and students are elated with CoE program. 2014 is the last year of our three year affiliation with these schools. Now they are graduated DE schools! The AIF has handed over the schools to the Government with the resources provided by AIF as per Memorandum of Understanding. AIF extends its gratitude to AMAT for supporting us to make the CoE program a successful one
