"My feet feel like they're on fire " "Each step feels like I'm walking through wet paint." "I live in constant fear that I'll fall." "I can't sleep, my hands and feet tingle all night "
What do all these people have in common? They suffer from peripheral neuropathy. It's estimated that more than 20 million people in the United States have peripheral neuropathy Unfortunately, this figure may be significantly higher as the disease is often misdiagnosed because of its wide array of symptoms
Dr Lauren Milligan of Sage Point Acupuncture & Integrative Medicine in Venice, FL shares this belief "I ve been treating neuropathy in all its various forms, for years and so often my patients come to me because of the symptoms, not because of a diagnosis They saw one of my television appearances or read the testimonial of another patient and say to themselves, 'Hey, I feel the same thing' "
Frankie M of Venice testified to this "I remember my husband driving me to my consultation and I saw a woman running just outside our neighborhood I was so envious - I just kept thinking I would give anything just to walk again My primary care doctor told me my troubles with pain and balance were just symptoms of old age and gave me a prescription
Collector’s Gift Tunes Up Englewood School Music Programs
The Artist Colony in Englewood has received its largest single donation of guitars, a gift assembled in Rotonda by local collector Gerry Santoro after seeing the group’s “Music Instruments for Englewood Students” appeal. Musicians Sydney, Dale Shumate and Roy Choma were invited to review the collection. They inventoried the instruments, photographed each piece and tested playability. While many of Santoro’s most personal “keeper” guitars ultimately remained in his collection, a significant group was set aside for the nonprofit’s student initiative.
The guitars will be evaluated and reconditioned before distribution to local school programs in need. The Artist Colony said a Les Paul and a slide guitar from the haul may be sold to raise additional funds for band-room priorities at Lemon Bay High School and L.A. Ainger Middle School. Both campuses report shortages across wind and percussion sections. L.A. Ainger Middle School, in particular, lists Yamaha euphoniums among its top needs, with starting costs exceeding $1,000
each. Proceeds from any instrument sales will be directed to purchases that align with music directors’ requests.
The Artist Colony in Englewood, a 501(c)(3) supporting visual and performing arts, has seen strong community response to its drive, logging 20 separate donations over 19 days in addition to Santoro’s guitars. The organization coordinates intake, refurbishment and placement to ensure instruments reach active programs and students. Residents and businesses can
contribute playable instruments, those in need of repair, or funds to underwrite parts and service. Donors may request an IRS acknowledgment letter for tax purposes. Priority needs currently include wind and percussion equipment—large and small—for both Lemon Bay High School and L.A. Ainger Middle School, along with durable cases, reeds, sticks and maintenance supplies. For donation details or to arrange pickup, contact Sydney at i2garden@yahoo.com.
Peripheral Neuropathy Breakthrough!
I was so depressed "
Fortunately, Frankie would eventually see Dr Milligan on the local news talking about similar symptoms and how she offers a real solution at Sage Point Acupuncture "I just knew I had to see her. She was my last hope."
"Almost all of our patients come to us with a story similar to Frankie's They've been everywhere else They've been told there's no hope They've been told it's just part of getting older'," shares Taylor, a Patient Care Technician at Sage Point Acupuncture "It just breaks my heart, but I know how much we can help people like Frankie, so I'm always so happy when they walk through our door "
Those diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy often face a very grim reality: Western medicine declares that there is no solution while most alternative therapies carry large price tags and offer little to no resolve Which is why Dr Milligan and the staff at Sage Point Acupuncture pride themselves on being 'the last resort with the best results' Peripheral neuropathy is a result of damage to the nerves and this damage is commonly caused by lack of blood flow in the hands and feet A lack of blood flow results in a lack of nutrients; the nerves then begin to degenerate and die which causes pain ranging from discomfort to debilitation Because neuropathy is a degenerative condition, once those nerves begin to deteriorate, they continue to do so until they are completely expired, leaving those suffering with crippling balance issues "In this case, the absence of pain is not necessarily a good thing," shares Dr Milligan "This usually indicates that your nerves are hanging on b y a fragile thread " So how exactly is Dr Milligan able to reverse the effects of this degenerative disease? "Acupuncture has been used to increase blood flow for thousands of years which helps to get the necessary nutrients to the affected nerves But the real magic happens when I integrate ATP Resonance BioTherapy® This is based off the tech that was originally developed by NASA to expedite recovery and healing "
"I just can't say enough about Sage Point " Frankie shared through tears of joy "My husband and I moved here 3 years ago, he walks down to the Jetty and along the beach almost every evening I always stayed home because of the pain and discomfort Yesterday, I walked with him! Next week we're starting dance lessons I am truly living life these days "
"According to Frankie's test results, she has seen a 74% improvement in pain and functionality, which is on par with a majority of our patients " shares Taylor, "But more important than those test results is the joy she's expressed being here and hearing about all the amazing things she's able to do because she feels great!"
By seamlessly blending the ancient science of acupuncture with modern medical solutions, Dr Milligan has achieved a 90% success rate in reversing the effects of neuropathy She starts each patient with an initial consultation during which a sensory exam is performed "This not only aids in making a proper diagnosis, but it helps to define just how much nerve damage has occurred" tells the doctor "This is important because if a patient has suffered more than 95% damage, there is little that I can do to help them I'm familiar with the medical miracle, but I know my limits as a practitioner and the limits of my medicine "
When it comes to treating peripheral neuropathy, regardless of its origin, early detection greatly improves your chances of a full recovery
If you or someone you love are suffering with chronic pain that presents as burning, tingling or 'pins and needles', or you've recently been diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy, it is important to know that there are options
There is hope

Chophouse285 to Bring
Handmade Pasta and Dry-Aged Steaks to Englewood
Keith and Laurie Farlow, owners of Farlow’s on the Water, are opening their newest restaurant, Chophouse285, by the end of the year. The new dining spot will offer a distinctly different experience from their Caribbean-inspired seafood restaurant, focusing instead on handmade pasta and dry-aged beef cooked over a custom woodburning grill.
The centerpiece grill was designed by Chris Demant, a craftsman known for building grills for celebrity chefs and awardwinning restaurants. Chophouse285 combines new construction with a sense of local history. Local artisan Bill Woods is crafting much of the interior trim from the salvaged material, giving the restaurant a warm, timeless feel.
Guests entering through the rear will find a unique view into the
kitchen, with windows offering a look at the pasta-making process, and the dry-aging room where cuts of beef are stored. The elevated bar area, known as the “Bourbon and Rum Room,” will feature cozy seating, a small-plate menu, and a curated selection of spirits.
The menu will include dishes such as a green goddess ceviche made with fresh rockfish, red onion, mandarin oranges, and Yuzu citrus, served over arugula salad with a creamy “Goddess” emulsion; a mushroom bruschetta featuring house-made potato bread topped with ricotta and a mix of wild mushrooms like hen-of-the-woods and chanterelles; and a rustic porkand-beef meatball with a citrus chili marinara, grated manchego cheese and house made focaccia.
Located at 285 N Dearborn St., Chophouse285 promises to bring a new level of craftsmanship and culinary creativity to Englewood’s dining scene when it opens later this year.

Metamorphosis in Motion
The monarch butterfly’s life cycle is a remarkable journey of transformation and survival. Beginning as an egg laid on a milkweed leaf, the monarch caterpillar hatches and feeds exclusively on milkweed, growing through five stages as they molt before forming a ‘J’ shape and transforming into a jade-green chrysalis. Inside, the caterpillar undergoes metamorphosis, emerging days later as a vibrant orange and black butterfly with wings that must be pumped full of fluid and hardened before its first flight. These delicate creatures then embark on one of nature’s most astonishing migrations, traveling up to 2,800 miles from the United States
and Canada to the mountain forests of central Mexico to hibernate through winter. Planting native milkweed helps sustain this iconic species, ensuring that future generations of monarchs can continue their “sleepy transformation.”

Give a Shelter Pet a Mini Vacation
Life in the shelter is safe and loving, but nothing compares to new
adventures, quiet time, and oneon-one companionship. Sarasota County’s Animal Services is inviting the community to take part in two short-term foster programs designed to give dogs a much-needed break and help them shine for potential adopters. With Doggie Day Out, participants can treat a pup to a fun day of walks, beach time, naps, or even a special “pup stop” for a treat before returning them to the shelter. For those seeking a little more time, the Weekend Warrior program allows families to welcome a dog into their home for a short stay filled with snuggles, walks, and relaxation. Both programs provide valuable insight into each dog’s personality outside the shelter, helping staff make the perfect adoption match while giving participants the joy of making a difference. To learn more visit humane.org or call 941•474•7887 ext. 413.
These are just two of the many animals waiting for adoption. You can see all of Suncoast Humane Society’s adoptable animals by visiting their Website, www.humane.org.

Hector’s the guy who somehow makes buying a car feel like you just stopped by to hang out. Always rocking his signature suspenders half style, half superstition he’s got a way of making customers laugh even before they’ve had their morning co ee.
When he’s not on the lot, he’s usually detailing his own car for the third time that week, watching old Top Gear reruns like they’re documentaries, or talking about how he’s de nitely going to start going to the gym again next Monday. He swears he’s in this business because he loves cars but really, he just likes meeting people and convincing them he’s cooler than he actually is.
Catchphrase: “I sell cars, not dreams… unless the dream has heated seats.”
