WORKSHOP 1 HERITAGE CONSERVATION

Declared as India’s first heritage city , Ahmedabad has mainly divided by Sabarmati river into significant two parts Old city- New city. The workshop was conducted in the old walled city of Ahmedababd for 10 days. Studying 600 years old houses, their neighbourhood, habitat and further more study one house in detail was the task.

The concept of Courtyard is majorly used in these pol-houses (the houses in old city) to bring in natural light and ventilation as these houses are bounded by other houses on two sides. The daily activities were observed and studied to understand their lifestyle in such dense environment.

WORKSHOP 2 TRADITIONAL MUD HOUSES

Related study program was being conducted in foundation year of the undergraduate currculum. The purpose of this course was to understand the settlement of rural area of India and the construction of the mud houses without any help of the current technolog After analysing the town the technology. study was then taken forward to researching an individual household.

From many villages situated in the city Jamshedpur, one town ‘Devghadh’ was selected to study further.

After staying there for about a week, the drawings made are all hand drawn as the houses were constructed from mud.
