What is an inverter or noninverter air conditioner?

Purchasing an air conditioner to maintain your indoor temperature is certainly a necessity, but not one that can be met easily. One thing that makes this decision hard is the amount you have to invest in an AC. Since the expense is significant, you don’t have any scope for mistakes. You have to consider factors like the brand, pricing, features and the cooling & heating needs of your house to select an ideal AC. Also, you need to ensure whether you want an inverter or non-inverter AC. To help you with this decision here is some information. Have a look!

What is an inverter AC?

While air conditioners were earlier considered a luxury item, times have changed. The air conditioning units which are available in the market at present use the latest technology that makes them affordable. One tech that has made the systems energy-efficient and improved their performance is the inverter system technology. Inverter ACs use adjustable speed, which controls the compressor of the equipment. The units start working at a low speed and consume less power. Then, the air conditioner slowly speeds up until it reaches its maximum capacity. Since homes do not need a long time to achieve their desired temperature, the tech makes cooling practical. The inverter technology retains the temperature levels and prevents losses.

How do inverter air conditioners work?

In simple words, inverter technology controls the power supplied to ACs compressor motor. While the compressor regulates the refrigerant flow and maintains the required levels of heating & cooling, it is the motor that decides the compressor’s rotational speed. To further break this down, the inverter tech ACs control the room temperature by altering the motor speed without needing the motor to switch on/off.

On the other hand, the non-inverter ACs work at constant speed motors. So, the temperature is adjusted by turning the compressor on/off. Thus, more energy is consumed by these systems.

What is a non-inverter AC?

Standard air conditioners are often categorised as non-inverters that rank low on energy efficiency. They are a little difficult to distinguish from the inverter ACs on the outside, but most brands mention the tech used by the equipment. The non-inverter air conditioners are affordable and can still be found in many homes. These units have a fixed-speed compressor motor and work on the all-or-nothing principle. This means the compressor won’t function at the same pace but instead turn on/off.

Consider an example where we have set the AC to operate at 26 degrees.

Once the desired temperature is achieved, the compressor in a non-inverter HVAC unit will turn off. After some time, the room temperature will rise, prompting the compressor to run again to reach 26 degrees. This cycle will keep repeating.

When purchasing an air conditioning unit, there are several things you need to consider. One such factor is whether you should buy an inverter or noninverter AC to maintain the indoor temperatures.
