Is your AC leaking water? Here is what you can do about it!

Air conditioning systems have become a necessity nowadays, which is why it is essential to ensure proper care of the unit. For this, you should call the HVAC repair and maintenance services every once in a while. Doing so will ensure that any minor problem with your AC gets fixed before it blows out of proportion and results in the complete breakdown of the unit. One such problem that AC users commonly face is leakage of water. Therefore, it is essential to treat this malfunction as soon as it occurs to prevent any largescale problems in the future. Here is why your AC might be leaking water and what you can do to fix it!

Common problems resulting in water leakage

If water is seeping out from the central unit, it means something is wrong. There might be many reasons for this problem. Here are a few of them:

Improper Installation:

If you have newly installed an air conditioning system and the unit leaks, the most likely reason for this could be a faulty setup. It could be that the AC and the drainage pipes are not proportional. Because of this, the water flow may get disrupted. As a result, the water may go backwards or lie at the same level and not move ahead.

Solution: When installing the air conditioning unit, ensure the pipe is set up at a lower height than the central unit. It will help the water to flow downwards towards the drainage outlet and help resolve the leakage problem.

2. Dirt in the air filter:

The air flowing inside the AC unit could make the filters dirty with grime. It could block the airflow over the evaporator coils, because of which the coil temperature may drop and reach a freezing level. In this case, you will see that ice will start forming on the coils in place of moisture, and excess water will drip into the drainage pan. The pan will soon run out of the capacity to hold water, and the central unit will start leaking.

Solution: To resolve this problem, you must clean your air conditioning unit on a monthly basis. Make sure to remove the dirt and debris to fix these minor problems.

3. Clogged drain pipe:

Dirt and debris from the environment can cause blockage in the drainage pipe. It could cause trouble with the condensation flowing out through the drainage system. When that happens, the water may stop flowing outwards and go into the central unit. It could result in water leakage.

Solution: You should make sure to clean your air conditioning unit on a regular basis. If you do not have time to do this yourself, you can call the HVAC services. So, these are a few reasons why your air conditioning system might leak water. Trying the solutions mentioned in the article could help resolve the problem.
