Robin Nielsen’s Science Camps (Ages 5-11 yrs) The San Carlos Science and Creativity Camp program at Laureola Park returns for an exciting summer. Each camp is a one week program designed around a general science principle. Campers will engage in two science projects a day, 10 per week. Projects are of three different types: Hands-On Projects, Exciting Demonstrations, and Guest Speakers. All projects are educational and all are extremely fun! While scientific concepts are introduced in each project, the emphasis is on “doing” and making science fun. Other daily camp activities include group games and morning ice breakers. At recess campers are offered a number of activities including face painting, time with the animals, lanyards, friendship bracelets, indoor play with LEGO®, fuse beads and supervised recess outside on the play structure and field. Daily snacks are provided at recess, but please bring a bag lunch. Lab fees cover supplies for each camp and are payable to Robin Lise-Nielsen on the first day of camp. Please, no bikes, skateboards, or scooters. Fee: $167R/$187NR –1 week ($40 lab fee) $135R/$155NR, week of 7/5 – 4 days, ($40 lab fee) Critter Camp – Critter Camp is full of many fun animal-based projects, as well as visits from several local animal agencies. Past visitors have included Wildlife Rescue, the Peninsula Humane Society, the Palo Alto Junior Museum and Insect Adventures. The camp is made even more special with our permanent animal residents of rabbits and chickens. We will also have visits from Robin’s own exotic animal collection which includes a Sulcata tortoise, an Amazon parrot as well as her brand new Rhea chicks – miniature Ostriches from South America! A $40 lab fee is payable at first class. 31618 M-F 9:00am-1:00pm 6/20-6/24 Laureola Park Phun with Physics — We’ll investigate gravity, speed and motion, space travel and perhaps even time travel. We’ll build water rockets that shoot amazingly high, and don’t forget the electrostatics, make your hair stand straight up with the Van de Graffe Generator. If it’s Physics, then it’s fun! A $40 lab fee is payable at first class. 31619 M-F 9:00am-1:00pm 6/27-7/1 Laureola Park

Animals and Art – This is a wonderful camp which will help us appreciate the art in nature. We will work with popular media such as crayon, pencils, watercolor as well as a few off beat types such as solar reactive dyes, block printing, and color diffusion. Enjoy the simple act of sketching an animal, coloring complex nature images as well as using chemistry to create interesting color mixing creations. This camp is a mixture of creativity and science. A $40 lab fee is payable at first class. 31621 Tu-F 9:00am-1:00pm 7/5-7/8 Laureola Park Amazing Animals – Did you ever hear the story about the dog that raveled across the whole country to find his way home? Or a mother wolf that nursed and raised an orphan human baby? How about a dolphin that rescues the sailor lost at sea? Are these stories true or are they just made up? We will hear about some true life amazing animal stories that have really happened. Our projects will focus on something special about each animal and the story that is told. A $40 lab fee is payable at first class. 31620 M-F 9:00am-1:00pm 7/11-7/15 Laureola Park Animal Tale – Lots of animals you know of have tails, but how many do you know of that have Tales? We will be focusing on stories about special animals such as Rudyard Kipling’s Just So Stories, native American stories, and fairytales and folklore. Each project begins with a tale, but we will then learn more about the animals in the tale. Be ready to meet animal visitors for some of these stories as well as do a hands on project that will help us understand them better. A $40 lab fee is payable at first class. 31622 M-F 9:00am-1:00pm 7/18-7/22 Laureola Park California Creatures – This fun camp will help us appreciate the amazing and wonderful animals all around us in California. From the mountain lion down to the bush bunny, California is abundant with beautiful wildlife. Even in a busy town like San Carlos we still encounter wildlife. Look forward to learning more about animals you already know like deer and blue jays, as well as those you may have never seen such the nocturnal opossum and sea creatures from the nearby ocean! A $40 lab fee is payable at first class. 31623 M-F 9:00am-1:00pm 7/25-7/29 Laureola Park Pinhole Photography (Ages 10-17 yrs) — In this camp we will learn about the nature of light and simple photographic techniques. Each camper will build his/her own pinhole camera from making the pinhole and constructing a light-tight container to taking the photos and developing the film. We will concentrate on exposure time and photographic composition. This camp has lots of chemistry and physics and is great for younger and older campers. A $40 materials fee is payable to the instructor on the first day of camp. 31624 M-F 9:00am-1:00pm 8/1-8/5 Laureola Park
