Q: Art often reflects the artist's emotions and experiences. Can you describe a specific piece of your art that embodies a particularly powerful emotion or moment in your life? A: My art certainly reflects my emotions and experiences. My “Happy Hour” series reflects the carefree ways of my youth, with very whimsical themes and bright colors. When I paint in larger canvases, I will generally tap into my subconscious and explore themes and objects with a more surrealistic essence.

A: Inspiration to me comes in all shapes and sizes everywhere. For example, not long ago someone made a funny remark about my “happy hour” series of paintings dealing with a piggy and a certain beverage, hence the title “a piggy colada”. He didn’t last long in the gallery by the way.

Q: Many artists have a special ritual or routine before they start creating. Do you have any unexpected pre-creation rituals? A: My most common pre-painting ritual starts with studying many of the photographs that I have taken in my travels. Once I have narrowed it down to a couple, I’ll start sketching them while having milk chocolates or cookies, for whatever reason they help with my focus and attention span. Once I start painting, I will take breaks every hour or so, and most of the times I will be working on 2 to 4 different artworks at the same time, it just works better for me that way.

Q: What themes or ideas are you currently exploring in your work, and how do you hope to make an impact with your art? A: Recently I started painting landscapes, I had actually avoided them for years, since they were reminding me much of my previous profession, which had been architectural illustrator, which I realized I was very bored doing. Anyway, I am finding landscape artwork to be very emotionally fulfilling, something about reliving the beautiful and majestic places which I had recently visited. My Sedona Nightscapes come to mind. I try to showcase my perspective of the beauty of the Sedona area scenery in a way that a photograph couldn’t capture. It brings me great joy.

Artist Jeffrey Neel McDaniel with the completed commission.

“My experience connecting with an artist through the San Antonio Artists Collective has been extremely pleasant. Once I submitted a request, I received a response quickly with a suggested artist. They made sure that my vision for the painting and the artist’s own favored subject matters were a match. This is important to make sure the art isn’t “dead”. I didn’t want a soulless slapdash wall decoration. I wanted art that made me feel. Jeffery Neel McDaniel delivered. The gallery staff and the artist Jeffery Neel McDaniel are professional and warm in their interactions and made my husband and myself feel comfortable with the process. Jeffery sent photos of the progress and we are thrilled with the final painting. If you have a vision, I highly recommend reaching out to the San Antonio Artists Collective so that they can help you realize the images in your head.” - Angel D.
