We work in partnership with other health and social care providers across Devon to deliver high quality services to support the recovery of people with mental health needs. We have introduced networks of care that deliver all the necessary health and social care services through four network areas based on the following four geographical areas, with a total population of more than 850,000: North Devon, Exeter, East and Mid Devon, South and West Devon and Torbay.

Devon Primary Care Trust was formed on 1st October 2006 following the merger of similar organisations in Exeter and Mid, North, East, South and West Devon. Community Hospitals provide services including minor injuries, out-patient care, day surgery, rehabilitation, and care for older people and for patients being monitored by their GPs. If you’re not sure whether your injury can be treated in a Minor Injuries Unit, telephone NHS Direct on 0845 4647. They will be able to advise you, and can also tell you where your nearest Minor Injuries Unit is. This service is linked to the GP out-of-hours service. Please ring before you turn up -before coming to an MIU that is open 24 hours please telephone the hospital (on the main hospital number) before turning up to check that it will be the appropriate place to be treated. South Devon Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust runs a big general hospital (Torbay Hospital) serving the South Devon area. The services that it provides are funded by Primary Care Trusts, who receive an allocation of NHS money from the government each year and who decide on the healthcare priorities for their local population. The South Devon Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust catchment area covers 300 square miles - from South Dartmoor to the length of coastline which stretches from the mouth of the River Exe (Dawlish), past the Teign and Dart estuaries (beyond Dartmouth). Torbay Hospital therefore serves a resident population of approaching 300,000 people, plus about 100,000 visitors at any one time during the summer holiday season.
