Vendors Forewords The Breed has certainly bounced back from a year that everyone would like to forget.

Sales to date have seen records smashed in Ireland and a May Fair that will be remembered for a long time.

The Sherborne Flock also set new records in May with our ewe lamb selling to “Gortleigh” for a new flock highest price of 1200 gns. Not to be out done was Sherborne Direct, this Ballad son, joining “Dynamite” and “Waggoners” for 3800 gns.

But what was most pleasing was the fact that the Champion exhibit was out of a Sherborne ewe and the day’s highest price from Huish was sired by Benchmark, purchased at our last on farm sale.

Today’s Sale contains lots of different pedigrees a combination of Sherborne and bought in genetics from some of the breeds most influential flocks.

All adult sheep are footvaxed annually and everything is Heptavac P Plus between August and October.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped with the Sale.

Sherborne Poll Dorsets

Health Status Ewes scanned in lamb on 30/6/21 (Sherborne) and 8/7/21 (Blackhill lots 25-45) were accurate on those dates. Ewes running with the ram between those dates and the sale are not sold as in lamb, and we recommend that purchasers continue to run them with a ram once on new holdings.

All sheep are on the Heptavac P+ system. Sherborne ewes over the age of twelve months have also had Footvax. The Blackhill Flock is Organic and all the ewes have been Footvax vaccinated.

Post-Sale Arrangements We are happy to keep sheep for customers after the event, but ask that this has been arranged before the sale. We also welcome inspection of the sale sheep prior to the sale day.

Auctioneer’s Comment Here we are with the bi-annual production sale on behalf of Sherborne and for the second time on behalf of Blackhill flock with what proves to be fantastic catalogue of some of the best of the breed.

As always at this fixture all stock comes highly recommended with the depth of breeding in both flocks speaking for itself, these sheep will add quality to any existing pedigree flocks or provide a rare opportunity to establish a high health pedigree flock of Dorset’s.

SIRE NOTES SHERBORNE ZABALETTA Goes back to Riverview Scrumhalf, purchased from Trevor & Sharon Knox. Has produced some great females with tremendous confirmation.

SHERBORNE ARROW Sired by Gortleigh Tarzan and out of X3635, a very productive ewe.

Progeny carry good muscle. Arrow is now with “Stobilee” in Scotland.

POORTON ZUBARU Acquired from privately as a lamb from Poorton produces very milky daughters and is the sire of D Max, the lamb we’ve kept to use this year.

SANDY LANE ZIPPY Has produced Benchmark and Bismark, both being used heavily here and Huish respectively.

By Poorton Xplosive. This ram has already bred “Direct” having been used on a small number of ewes last year.

DOCLETTWR BARNEY Bred by Roland & Iolo Davies in Wales, before being purchased at May Fair 2019. A tremendously long ram, which can already be seen in his early progeny.

HUISH ACTION Bought in 2018 for 2400 gns from Huish. Produces some very stylish daughters.

BLACKHILL ARTIMIS Bred by Jim & Joe. Sired this year’s performance class lamb at May Fair before selling to Thornbank Dorsets.

POORTON BRACKEN: This Huish Zeal son has produced some great lambs in his first season.

SHERBORNE CALIBRATE: Sired by Benchmark before being sold in our last production sale. Benchmark sons sold to 5,200 gns in David & Rich’s pen of rams at May Fair SHERBORNE BISMARK The same pedigree as Benchmark being sired by “Zippy” and out of a Lucente daughter. First lambs look very promising.

BYEWAYS CHARLIE Purchased last Summer from Joe Larder’s Byeways Flock. Sired by his very successful Byeways Winner.
