FOREWORD Downkillybegs Here at Downkillybegs we are delighted to be able to bring you this select offering of quality females from some of the very best families in our long established Poll Dorset flock.

Once again we are offering in lamb hogget ewes and ewe lambs, coming from the very best of bloodlines within the breed and the hogget ewes have been scanned in lamb to the top end sires with exceptional track records for producing quality offspring.

We are delighted to be sharing the Red Ribbon event with Maineview and Ballytaggart flocks, both of whom are highly respected breeders of quality Poll Dorsets and have had noteable flock achievements.

At Downkillybegs, we have spent 44 years of careful breeding and selection for quality Poll Dorsets, with careful attention paid to the end product produced, making sure that what we breed is a modern, saleable commodity wether it is pedigree rams or ewes or prime lambs off farm at the farm gate.

Strong emphasis has been placed on growth rate and muscle development and this focus has created the sheep that we produce today. Having expanded our flock over the past 3 years, where numbers now are greater than they have ever been, has given us the opportunity to select quality females for this Red Ribbon sale, which previously would have stayed within our own flock. These ewes are genuine breeding females, complimented by the sires that they are in-lamb to and will give purchasers unrivalled opportunities with the lambs they produce.

Over the years, Downkillybegs have been very fortunate to produce some of the biggest sire names within the breed, and have hit the headlines at Mayfair and Ballymena Premier with Downkillybegs rams who have gone on to develop reputations for themselves in their new homes.

DOWNKILLYBEGS Flock Health Status The Downkillybegs Flock has been continuously private recorded over the past 44 years.

The flock is M.V. Accredited and over 20 years Scrapie Monitored negative. Annual Scrapie genotyping on ram lambs and genomic testing for muscling is carried out through Lincoln University Labs in New Zealand.

The flock is all double vaccinated with Heptavac P+ and wormed with Chanavern 7.5% and Cydectin drench.

All females will be luckpenny insured with NFU at 400gns and above.

DOWNKILLYBEGS IN-LAMB HOGGETS SERVICE SIRES The sires that we have used for this year’s mob of sale hoggets have been selected on merit to compliment the qualities in our hogget ewes, and as stock sires they have historically proven themselves many times over as breeders of quality stock - both rams and ewes in a number of flocks.

HUISH FANFARE F017 is a ram born in 2004, that we were very fortunate to obtain some semen from. Fanfare was sired by Huish Cupid and traces his ancestry back to Blackhill N167, the top priced ram at Mayfair 1994, who I admired on sale day. Fanfare is still as modern in the progeny that he produces now as he was almost 20 years ago.

KILDOWNEY SNOOPY S139 is sired by Beechmount Louis and out of an Olivertree ewe - L134. Snoopy was successfully used at Manorcroft and sired their 1st prize ewe lamb at Mayfair 2014. Snoopy sons were also in the U pen of Manorcorft rams that sold to average over 2000gns to produce a personal best sale for the flock. Snoopy breeds big powerful sheep with great heads and bold breed character that should compliment our Bossman and Cola females.

DRUMLIN LOTUS L03 is sired by Drumlin Kiwi K02, one of the New Zealand bred rams from the imported Highplains 147-07. Drumlin Kiwi also sired Legend who went on to sell for the then record price of 2200gns at Ballymena, for the Drumlin flock. Lotus is sire of Kirlish Barney - a ram of note that has bred successfully in a number of flocks.

RICHHILL WYATT W515 was purchased jointly in Carlisle and used across the 3 flocks, for two seasons. The progeny that Wyatt produced were highly successful at NI Club sales, siring the 2017 Hilltown sale Champion & 2017 Ballymena sale Champion - Kildowney Zambezi - who sold to the Sandylane flock, Kildowney Zodiac - stock ram at Kildowney & Galgorm, and Kildowney Alfie & Arnie - Mayfair Reserve Overall Champions 2018 as a pair of ram lambs. Wyatt has left females in our flock that produce well and are represented in this years sale offering.

Wyatt was sired by Manorcroft Thunder T246 - a Trevilley Forcer son and out of a Hilltop bred ewe.

HUISH BAZOOKA B16043 was highly admired as a lamb at Mayfair 2019 and was sired by Ballytaggart Zak. Whenever the opportunity to purchase arose in 2021, we didn’t hesitate. Bazooka sired our 1100gns ram lamb that sold to Coltrim flock.

His daughters are very milky and breed well to a variety of sires. Zoomer’s dam is a sister to Daredevil’s dam and goes back to Lion King’s twin sister (grand dam) and our famous old ewe T11.

DOWNKILLYBEGS ZIG ZAG Z186 is a son of Olivertree Thunderbolt and out of a Nik Nak bred ewe who consistently breeds every 8 months. Zig Zag has left females with beautiful feminine qualities.

HUISH BAZOOKA B16043 is a ram with tremendous power and scale and is passing this presence on to his progeny.

DOWNKILLYBEGS CLINKER C016 was retained for use due to his standout presence and character and also his pedigree. Now in his second season he hasn’t disappointed - having sired Eagle Eye, the 1st prize ram lamb at Mayfair and Eskimo, the Dorset Champion at Suffolk Show 2022.

DOWNKILLYBEGS COLA C124 has accomplished more in two seasons than most rams can achieve in a lifetime. He sired the former record priced ram, Downkillybegs Dazzler, and numerous other quality sons, including Daredevil.

LISNAFILLAN CAMIKAZE C106 is a son of Ballytaggart A1962 and out of a Downkillybegs Xander bred ewe.

DOWNKILLYBEGS DRUMMER BOY D803 is sired by the Huish Kentucky son Urban Hero. Great Grandson of Harmony.

DOWNKILLYBEGS BOSSMAN B190 has a great ability to sire very sharp, bright, breedy females. His dam is the old Taz daughter who has been a reliable breeder throughout her lifetime. Bossman’s strength comes from the consistency of the daughters that he produces.

FOREWORD Maineview The Maineview Flock was established in 2016 with select females purchased from the best flocks in the uk. Foundation females have continued to be added over the last 5 years. The Maineview flock was crowned NI Champion flock in 2019 and ewe numbers have continued to raise to todays 50 ewe flock.

The start of the 2022 sale season for us took off to a flyer with Maineview Eureka picking up the Dorset Diamond championship later selling for 2500gns. We travelled to the Spring Stars a few days later taking the Reserve champion with Maineview Emogi selling for a top price of 1200gns joining the sandylane flock.

We are offering 5 in-lamb hoggets and 15 ewe lambs from some of our original foundations ewes and homebred ewes we have developed.

We were delighted to gain top price ewe lamb of 3000gns for Maineview D1376. Her sire was Zulu which again some of our top ewe lambs are out of and her Dam being our best ewe T800. Again we are offering grand daughters of this fantastic ewe. This year gives us the first opportunity to offer Daredevil ewe lambs.

He has done a impeccable job in both flocks selling males to a top of 4200gns and his first five sons selling to average over 2000 selling to some of the most noteable flocks within the uk.

We would also like to congratulate Stephen Cobbald who purchased Maineview D 1399 at last years sale. She was crowned supreme interbreed champion at Hadleigh show May 22 We wish all the buyers every success with there new purchases and hope they get as much enjoyment out of them as we have had breeding them.

MAINEVIEW SALE FEMALES SERVICE SIRES LISNAFILLAN BUGATTI ARR-ARR MYOMAX We are offering a gimmer in-lamb to Bugatti, a much admired ram which has bred some great sheep. Bugatti bred the breed champion at the October sale. Used by kind permission of Angus Fleming.

MAINEVIEW COLORADO ARR-ARR MYOMAX A home bred ram, we retained a half share. His mother was the top price at the Spring Stars at 2200gns.

Colorado has bred rams to 4600 and 2500 at Dorset Diamonds in March.

FOREWORD Ballytaggart Established in 1992, the Ballytaggart Flock celebrates its 30th Anniversary this year.

So when the chance arose to join again with Downkillybegs, along with Maineview, 13 years after our first production sale we felt it was an opportunity too good to miss.

Right from the start our focus has been on producing strong, fit carcass rams for both the commercial and pedigree markets. We have consistently bought the best rams we could to complement our females and this has enabled us to breed pedigree stock that go on and do well for us and whoever buys them.

Our females tonight come from many families deep within our flock and I have no doubt they will go on and do as well for you – the purchasers – as their dams have done for us.

CONDITIONS OF SALE 1. The highest bidder to be the buyer, and if any dispute arise between the bidders the decision of the Auctioneers shall be final, or at his discretion the lot in dispute shall immediately be put up again and re-sold. The Auctioneer reserves the right to refuse the bid of any person, and regulates the bidding, and no bidding to be retracted.

2. The purchasers to give their names and places of abode in writing, and pay the full purchase money for each lot at the fall of the hammer, (if required), in default of which the lot or lots so Purchased may immediately be put up again and re-sold.

3. No lot or lots shall be removed from the premises till paid for, but each and every lot shall, immediately at the fall of the hammer, be considered as delivered and be and remain in every respect the absolute risk of the respective purchaser or purchasers thereof, and shall be removed from the place of the Sale at the purchaser’s expense.

All descriptions constitute a warranty, to terminate at 10pm on day of Sale.

If any purchaser shall fail to comply will the above conditions, or any part of them, the Auctioneer shall be at liberty to either recover in full the amount of lot or lots bought by such purchaser, without reference to any delivery or acceptance of the lot or lots other than the first delivery by the fall of the hammer, or to re-sell any lot or lots bought by the purchasers, either by public or private sale, and the full amount of the purchase money at the present sale, or the deficiency (if any) arising from such second sale shall be made good by the defaulter at the present sale, and to be recoverable as and for liquidated damages 6. No money will be paid to the proprietor of any lot sold, unless the lot be cleared by the purchaser, and the Auctioneers will not be answerable for any deficiency that may arise on the resale of any un-cleared property.

The pedigree, history and description of each animal is guaranteed by the owner, and no liability whatsoever is undertaken by the Auctioneer or the Club for the statements in the catalogue or announcements made at the time of sale, the exhibitors who supply such statements are alone responsible.

9. No undertaking of the Auctioneers or their servants to take charge of the lot or animals after the Sale, or to forward them to their destination, shall be held to impose upon the Auctioneers any legal obligation or vitiate any of the foregoing conditions.

12. Should any question arise not provided for in the foregoing conditions, the decision of the Auctioneers shall be final, from which there shall be no appeal.

13. The Association reserves the right to object to any Entry or to remove any sheep from the Show without incurring liability for compensation.

Each exhibitor must bring a SG2 form to accompany their sheep

Minimum sale price may be agreed by Committee.

15. All entries to be number marked by the exhibitor by means of back stamp, with their lot number, corresponding with their tattoo mark, detailed in the sale catalogue. All entries must bear an official UK flock number on a tag, along with an unique Individual number 17.

White coats or Breed Showing Uniform to be worn by all exhibitors.

19. All sheep to be presented to the club appointed inspector for pre entry inspection by 12pm on sale day.

Any sheep arriving after 12pm will be excluded from the sale.

TERMS

Sheep sold in Guineas and no Auction Fees paid to Purchasers. Pounds to Vendors.

The Auctioneers reserve the right to refuse Cheques as payment.
