CAMPAIGN LEADERSHIP

The Campaign Steering Committee (CSC) is the primary advisory and planning body of the campaign, and they offer their experience and leadership to guide us to our $40M goal. We are extremely fortunate to have an excellent group of volunteers who, along with staff leadership, bring both experience in campaign fundraising and a passion and dedication to Saints:

• JAKE KERR ‘61 (current Board Chair) - Campaign Chair

• LESLEY BENTLEY - Campaign Vice Chair

• PETER ARMSTRONG ‘72 - Campaign Vice Chair

• CATHERINE McCAULEY - Current Parent, Board member

• TOM MATTHEWS - Headmaster

• ADRIENNE DAVIDSON - Director of Advancement

While I probably didn’t recognize it while I was a student at St. George’s, the School always had a vision for the future to provide the best opportunities for its students. It finds the best teachers, and then finds a way to provide an infrastructure to optimize the learning environment. The previous acquisition of the site for the Senior School (formerly known as “Topside”) and the Convent, and now the proposed remodeling of both Senior and Junior Schools are examples of this forward-looking approach.

“ Shanni and I are fortunate to have a deep connection to St. George’s. I’m a Georgian (’87), my brother Sean is an ’84 Grad and Shanni’s father, Strat Leggat, is a 1966 Georgian. We support the Annual Fund because we have experienced, and are watching our sons experience, the impact that a robust Annual Fund has on the educational and experiential opportunities for every boy at Saints. Without this important fund, our sons would not be exposed to the multitude of co-curricular initiatives that impact our children’s learning every day.

Parents of Willian, 2025, and Colm,

St. George’s is a place where every single boy has the opportunity to enrich himself in the various cocurricular programs the School has to offer. During my four years at Saints, I have come to recognize that it is a place that wants each and every student to thrive, not just as a student but also as a person. Whether it comes to sports, clubs or academics, this is simply a place where you can create your own personal community and truly explore your passions and individuality. We, as students, benefit from the curricular enhancements the Annual Fund supports and we are grateful for the opportunities we have received from this Fund.

ST. GEORGE’S PARENTS ASSOCIATION

The St. George’s Parents Association fundraising through the Annual School Fair and Used Uniform Sales are integral parts of St. George’s School’s fundraising initiatives.

The Fair, dubbed “FUN-raising” by the Head Convenors, brought the community together both in preparing and planning for the day and on the day. Thank you to the many volunteers for all that you do to make this event happen. This year, the SGPA supported the purchase of a new school bus and the St. George’s academic program, supporting the following areas: Robotics, Theatre, Student Life, Art, Service Learning, Junior Drama, Science, English, and Environmental Stewardship. The SGPA continues to have a tremendous impact on the entire St. George’s community, and we cannot thank you enough!

We are grateful to the SGPA for all the time and effort they devote every year in both raising money and perpetuating Saints’ reputation of being a vibrant and engaging community school.

In the last two decades, St. George’s School has had tremendous success in growing our endowment funds, which will be invested in perpetuity and will support the School for the long term. We now manage 61 different funds with a market value of $21,500,832, which puts us in the top echelon of independent Schools in this country. At this time, our endowment funds primarily support financial aid (bursaries) for deserving and mission-appropriate students, who otherwise might not be able to attend and enrich the student body.

Even as we fundraise for our most pressing current needs of facilities renewal and program support, our generous community has also continued to support the School for the decades ahead through gifts to the Endowment funds. This year $784,247 of new donations were added to the investment portfolio, the interest on which supports our Financial Aid programs.

ENDOWMENT GIVING

INSPIRING DIVERSITY

Without the financial support from the School, I would never have been able to attend St. George’s. Attending a school of St. George’s calibre afforded me opportunities I likely would never have considered, such as rowing for and graduating from Columbia University. For the experiences Saints has afforded me during and beyond my time at the School, I will be forever grateful.

The financial generosity of Georgians continues to greatly impact the School.

This year, Georgians raised $365,954 to support various initiatives at the School. We are excited by the wide range of demographics of the Georgians giving back to the School, ranging from 1949 to 2016.

GEORGIAN GIVING

KEEPING THE TRADITIONS ALIVE

St. George’s works closely with the Old Boys’ Association (OBA) Board, comprised of 15 Georgians who donate their time to maintaining and further building the relationship the School has with our extensive alumni network.

The School is grateful for the generosity of our alumni, who donate their time and treasure back to the School in various ways. One example is the Dragons’ Lair, an annual event where student entrepreneurs compete for the opportunity to pitch their business product or service to four Georgian judges. Winners receive a cash prize and the mentorship of the judges. Two judges have participated in this event since its conception: Horatio Kemeny ’86 and Mark Maché ‘86.

This year we launched the Georgian Mentoring Program that pairs older Old Boys with younger Old Boys who are approaching completion of their undergraduate degree, have just finished university, or are changing careers. The overwhelmingly positive response to this Program has led to more than 60 Mentee applications and the matching of more than 40 Mentors. The School is pleased to see the growing connection between Georgian generations and the invaluable guidance and advice being shared by all

The Georgians also support our Grade 11 Careers Day with a half-dozen guest speakers each year. The Investment Club is also well connected to our alumni and are frequently hosted by Georgians at their various workplaces for tours and information sessions.

“Entering St. George’s in Grade 4 as a day boy from Langley, my life was forever positively impacted in myriad ways through the experience of becoming a member of the Georgian community. For less than the cost of a cup of coffee a day, I have been proud to provide a monthly recurring donation to St. George’s for many years. I anticipate both continuing and increasing the amount of this monthly giving as a lifelong expression of appreciation. For me, continued longterm engagement with the School and the Georgian community is a valuable component of the overall experience that a St. George’s education brings to our lives. I would encourage every Old Boy to get re-engaged with the Georgian community; this engagement can start with as little as a monthly recurring donation but may well blossom into opportunities initially unrecognized.”

“Since the inception of the St, George’s Foundation, the Old Boys, as both an institution and as individual Georgians, have supported scholarships and bursaries through the Old Boys’ Fund. This fund provides assistance to deserving boys, both entering and within the school community, enabling them to continue to graduation and join us as fellow Old Boys. Please help us continue this worthwhile endeavour.”

STEVE MILLEN ‘70

Father of Capt. Robert Millen ’00 and Kenneth Glass ‘07

“Without the support of our community, the St. George’s we know would not be possible. The donations that build classrooms and playing fields, and fund scholarships and programs, are essential for continuing our proud traditions and realizing the full potential of the School.”

CELEBRATING STAFF & FACULTY

Staff and faculty are vital to the perpetuation of the School’s world-class reputation. This year employee philanthropy hit historic levels, both with the Staff & Faculty Annual Fund Appeal rising by 4% and 100% of the Leadership Team supporting the ONE Campaign. Employee philanthropy is an indication of their shared belief in the Mission and Vision of the School, as well as our employees’ shared commitment to the well-being of each St. George’s student.
