Vern had many hobbies and interests, including amateur (ham) radio, but his main hobby was woodcarving, which he continued while he was living here at Saint Simeon's. Vern is survived by his devoted wife, Doris; his daughters Sandy Lewis and Sherri Wingo; and his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Residents Enjoy a Western Days Celebration In September, our residents enjoyed a Western Days celebration of their own.

Live entertainment was provided by George Barton and Friends and residents enjoyed an indoor picnic including hot dogs, watermelon, and more.

Teresa Reno, the Life Enrichment Coordinator for Assisted Living said, "Vern loved doing more intellectual activities, especially crossword puzzles and word games, but he also loved to play pool with anyone who was willing—residents or staff."

Vern Stanton, a longtime resident of Saint Simeon's Assisted Living, passed away on Saturday, September 10th—four days shy of his 94th birthday. Vern was an active part of the Saint Simeon's family as a volunteer, helping round up residents to visit the Wellness Center and discover the many benefits of exercise.

We invite you to join us as we remember the lives of those who died at Saint Simeon's between November 2021 and October 2022. Our service will include singing, prayer, and scripture, as well as the reading of the names of each person who died. As each name is read, a bell will be rung and a candle lit. In addition, if family members or friends would like to add to our Book of Remembrance with a picture, obituary, or memories of their loved ones, please either bring these items to the service, printed on 8 1/2" x 11" paper, or provide them to Susanne+, preferably electronically, by October 12th.

We are delighted to partner with St. Aidan's Episcopal Church, just north of Saint Simeon's.

There is ample parking there and we hope family members will come and share stories of their loved ones.

You may be familiar with All Saints' Day (November 1) which commemorates all saints, known and unknown. In the New Testament, "saint" is applied to all faithful Christians (see Acts 9:32 and 26:10). Paul addresses his letters to saints who are members of Christian communities (see Rom 1:7 and Eph 1:1). A saint is someone who shares in the life of Christ. In popular usage "saint" later narrowed to those whose lives were distinguished and exemplary because of their selfsacrifice, witness, virtue, or accomplishments. Martyrs of the early church were particularly honored. They were considered heroes of the church. Notice that saints to not have to be perfect.

All saints have a past, all sinners have a future!

Historically, people felt the need to remember and honor those who are unknown to the wider church. All Souls' Day (November 2) is a day to especially commemorate family members and friends who have died.

We are honored to remember your loved one. We will look forward to seeing you!
