CELEB R ATING •ADMAJOREM DEI GLORIAM•

Dearest Lord, Teach me to be generous, Teach me to serve You as You deserve, To give and not to count the cost, To fight and not to heed the wounds, To toil and not to seek for rest, To labour and not to ask for reward, Save that of knowing do Your holy will.

Welcome to this report of the College Foundation. I hope it provides a benchmark of the activities and plans of the Foundation. I acknowledge the committed work of the members of the Foundation Board for their governance, strategic planning and financial management.

The Advancement team of the College works with the Foundation to plan events and campaigns to raise money. Currently the bursary fund has $1.37 million plus some investment properties.

Please know whether a gift is large or small, it is gratefully received and will contribute much to a family in genuine need of support in the case of a Bursary. Supporting the College Building Fund assists in the building of new facilities at the College. Today we draw on the generosity of those who have gone before us. Our donations at this time create the future for tomorrow’s leaders.

The following pages provide information about how the Foundation has been a steward of donations over the past year and what are some of the plans for the coming year.

HISTORY OF THE FOUNDATION BOARD

The Saint Ignatius’ College Foundation Board raises funds for the advancement of the College’s capital works building programs and the College Bursary Education fund.

The philanthropic journey for the College commenced decades ago. The establishment of the College at Norwood in 1951 involved committed campaigns. The building of the Senior School at Athelstone was made easier because of the generosity of the Ryan and Atkinson families who offered the land at a reduced cost. There were dedicated fundraising efforts as we built the Senior School in 1967. We have all benefited from those who have come before us and who gave then, so we have what we have now. Giving is at the heart of the greater good.

The Building Program

The College Foundation has overseen the fundraising for major capital works projects across the campuses, including the Mary MacKillop Library and tuckshop redevelopment at the Junior School, and the Campion Building, Chapel of the Holy Name, Richard Flynn Theatre, and Caroline Chisholm Building at the Senior School. In 2021 the Mary Glowrey Centre at Norwood will be realised. This will be a significant addition to the infrastructure footprint at the Junior School.

College Bursary Fund

The Foundation oversees the fundraising for the Bursary Program and acquits funds to the College annually to support students who would not otherwise be able to attend the College. Bursaries are means-tested and given on a needs basis to students who are refugees or asylum seekers, or those in the care of the Department of Child Protection, or to students from Aboriginal or Torres Strait islander background, or financially unable to afford the fees. The College is grateful to be in a position to offer the opportunity for children to receive an Ignatian education via the Bursary Fund.

Your support and generosity continue to leave an incredible mark on the children in our community.

Foundation Breakfast 2019

CHAIR OF FOUNDATION REPORT

On behalf of the members of the Foundation Board, it is with great excitement that we present to the College community our inaugural Impact Report.

The Foundation acts as the custodian on behalf of the College community for the assets under our management and, as such, our strategy for investment is cautious and necessarily measured. However, we have again been successful in our efforts as we prepared to relaunch our fundraising efforts late last year. The Foundation recognised that, given the current climate and the impact of COVID-19, our philanthropic goals might not have been realised. One of the “leftovers” from COVID-19 sees expectations not working out as planned, but donors proved us wrong, for which the Foundation is very grateful.

The following initiatives continued to be supported by our community.

Beanies for the Bursary

This was developed in 2019 as a conversation piece for our current community to gain insight into the Bursary Program and the 5th Term™ initiative. It includes student leaders in leading the discussion amongst their peers on the program and impact the Bursary strives to achieve in bridging the gap and access to an Ignatian education.

Sevenhill Cellars Community Wine Offer

Sevenhill is the only Jesuit-owned winery in Australia. In 2018 Sevenhill proposed a community offer in support of the Foundation Bursary Fund.

2020 Year 12 Enrolment Bond Bursary Initiative

In collaboration with the College, this initiative was launched and well received. Families departing the College were invited to donate their enrolment bond in part or full to the Bursary Fund.

It is now up to all of us to see 2021 become a year of continued growth for the Foundation, and with your support and interest in our annual appeals, it will be.

The 5th Term™

The 5th Term™ is a concept to be imagined: an additional school term that only exists in our dreams and in our hopes of giving the opportunity of a Jesuit education to a child who could not otherwise afford it.

In reality there is no fifth school term that we are required to fund for our own children, but in our thoughts, we can see our contribution (whatever that might be) to this fifth term as a contribution to another child - a child who receives a bursary from the Saint Ignatius’ College Foundation.

THE ROAD AHEAD

The Foundation will continue to report back to our supporters and the wider College community on the impact of your support and of our work. In 2021 and beyond ...

The $8 million Mary Glowrey Centre building fund campaign.

• The College celebrates its 70th year in 2021 and the Foundation is aspiring to raise $70,000 for the Bursary Fund.

• The growth of the Bento de Goes Bursary will be led by the Foundation Board. This is directed to refugee students and First People students.

• Our annual Foundation Breakfast will be a platform to raise awareness and funds for the Bursary, and provide opportunities for our student leaders to be part of this event.

• The Board will continue to connect annually with our student leaders regarding the important messaging of the Foundation Bursary Fund via the Beanies for the Bursary initiative.

• Smaller projects that may be of interest to our donor community will form part of our growth strategy.

• Sharing donor and recipient stories where appropriate.

• Bequests will form part of the engagement strategy.

• The continuation of the Year 12 Enrolment Bond Bursary initiative.
