Go, set the world
Saint Ignatius’ College strives for human excellence and seeks to celebrate diversity in many ways across our exceptional programs, quality of staff, resources, and scholarship opportunities.
The purpose of our scholarship program is to celebrate, grow, and foster excellence in areas across the College and recognise students who take responsibility for, and are proactive in, the development of their own education.
At the Senior School, we offer a range of unique scholarships, steeped in our Jesuit traditions, while forming students ready to lead the future.
A limited number of scholarships are awarded each year. They are reviewed annually, provide partial to full remission of tuition fees, and are at the discretion of the Principal.
The value of the scholarships is up to 100% tuition fee remission. All other ancillary costs such as the fixed fees, camps, trips, immersions, Parents & Friends Levy, College Magazine, text books, stationery, and school uniforms, will remain the responsibility of the family.

We value ‘thinking’ at Saint Ignatius’ College and have a 500-year history of intellectual rigour. Our academic scholarships are designed to celebrate a range of skills such as the ability to interpret, infer, analyse, question, problem-solve, deduce, and think critically.
A Jesuit education is an academically rigorous approach to learning that fosters the ability to reason reflectively, logically, and critically. Teaching and learning at Saint Ignatius’ College promotes a culture of intellectual rigour and high academic standards.
Candidates for an Academic Scholarship will be required to register online to sit the Australian Cooperative Entry Program (ACEP) Scholarship Test. This test is administered in February and marked by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER). Please note the fee to sit the scholarship test is $120. The tests are not curriculum-based and do not test the ability to retrieve learned knowledge, nor are they diagnostic.
Recipients of an Academic Scholarship are expected to maintain an exceptional academic record. Scholarships are reviewed annually, based on students’ attainment of the academic criteria.
Application for an Academic Scholarship is open to current students and to new students who will enter the College in Years 7, 10, or 11. It is expected that recipients will complete their schooling at Saint Ignatius’ College.
Our Senior School Music Scholarship program recognises individual musical talent, demonstrating the commitment of the College to the Music curriculum and the musical life of the College.
Saint Ignatius’ College provides opportunities through both the curriculum Music and co-curricular Music programs for students to share their gifts and talents, develop their skills, and lead their peers. The College has a strong music culture through both a varied curriculum program and an extensive co-curricular program featuring concert bands, big bands, choirs and vocal ensembles, string orchestras and quartets, and a guitar ensemble. Students are also able to form ensembles with their peers and involve themselves with many of the development opportunities provided by the College. The Senior School Musicals are performed biennially.
Music Scholarships are open to instrumentalists and vocalists and will be awarded to students, through audition, who display outstanding musical ability and a sound academic record. The ability to play more than one instrument is desirable. Applicants may have a classical, contemporary, or jazz background in music.
Successful applicants will be required to:
• participate in at least two co-curricular music ensembles annually
• provide leadership through the Co-curricular Music Program
• study Music as a subject at the College until at least the end of Stage 1, maintaining an exceptional academic record.
In applying for a Music Scholarship, candidates will be required to:
• present for an audition as a Year 6 student in February. An audition panel will include the Coordinator of Co-curricular Arts & Activities, the Leader of Learning for Music and a House Leader
• perform at least two pieces of music in contrasting styles, complete an aural (ear) test and participate in a short interview with the panel
• provide a portfolio including school reports, an endorsement from their music teacher and another endorsement from an instrumental music teacher
• have at least two years of experience on their instruments or an AMEB equivalent of Grade 4.
Application for a Music Scholarship is open to new and current students who will enter the Senior School in Year 7. Scholarships are reviewed annually, based on students’ attainment of the criteria. It is expected that recipients will complete their schooling at Saint Ignatius’ College.
Scholarship recipients may be offered opportunities for extension, enrichment, and acceleration through the College’s Gifted and Talented Program.
The Senior School Challenge Program enhances the development of gifted learners. It consists of Challenge Days each term where students can apply advanced problem-solving and critical thinking skills, which are beneficial to all disciplines. The Challenge Program also offers engaging competitions such as the Ethics Olympiad and the Da Vinci Decathlon for gifted students. These are complemented by the co-curricular program, which offers many other opportunities such as chess, debating, Future Problem Solving, and Tournament of Minds.
Subject Enrichment Days are also offered to gifted and high-achieving students. These provide students with the opportunity to explore the curriculum in greater depth as they venture outside of the classroom and apply their skills to real-world settings.
Students are assessed when they enter the Senior School in order to determine whether they qualify for acceleration. Highly gifted students will have a Personalised Plan for Learning, which enables their plan to be tracked throughout their Senior School education.
The College offers a number of accelerated subjects, whereby high-achieving students are able to complete the curriculum ahead of regular practice. This can occur as early as Year 8 depending on the needs of individual students. In Year 9, the opportunity becomes available to study a compacted curriculum for Science and Mathematics (i.e. the Year 9 and 10 Science and Mathematics curriculums can be completed while students are in Year 9). The continuation of the study of languages is also offered as an accelerated pathway program beginning in Year 10. There are also other Stage 1 subjects available in Year 10 such as Philosophy, History, and Nutrition. In undertaking the SYAPP, students will finish their study of a subject (complete SACE Stage 2) while in Year 11. High-achieving Senior School students are also supported and encouraged to pursue university study while still at school.
