Edward Jones Continues Transformational Journey by Expanding Offerings for Clients
ENTERING its second century of serving clients even more completely through deep personal relationships and continuing along its transformational journey toward providing more comprehensive planning and advice, financial-services firm Edward Jones announced today that it has entered into a strategic partnership with Citi to serve Edward Jones' clients' banking needs.
Banking is an integral part of delivering on the client experience through goals-based advice, which is a priority for investors. In fact, more than half of U.S. investors (54%) recently surveyed by Edward Jones say they’re looking for guidance on how to achieve all their financial goals and make trade-offs as they save, spend and borrow in a coordinated way. Through the strategic banking partnership, Edward Jones will initially focus on offering checking and savings accounts to its clients across the U.S. in 2024. The firm also intends to expand securities-based lending and may look to add other retail banking products and services.
"We are excited to bring our clients enhanced products, services and experiences through this industry-leading partnership with Citi," said Lena Haas, Head of Wealth Management Advice and Solutions at Edward Jones. “This new offering will further strengthen our nearly 19,000 financial advisors' ability to help our clients achieve their financial goals through more holistic advice, planning and solutions."
Looking to the future, the integration of banking capabilities with Edward Jones’ best-in-class investment services will enable financial advisors to work with clients based on a more holistic view of their finances and provide personalized recommendations that help them achieve more of their goals.
"We are pleased to partner with Edward Jones to offer an innovative and client-focused suite of banking services to cover their clients' short- and long-term goals," said Eduardo A. Martinez Campos, Head of Citi Wealth Services and Strategic Investments for Citi Global Wealth. "When personalized advice and wealth management is complemented with integrated banking services, clients benefit from a complete set of financial solutions, allowing for more holistic planning
opportunities and growth."
In early 2022, Citi Global Wealth launched Citi Alliance – a premium banking and lending service for clients of Registered Investment Advisors (RIAs), technology providers, broker dealers and custodians. Citi will leverage this expertise to support Edward Jones’ advisors and clients with seamless banking solutions.
The firm has long understood the benefit of banking capabilities. In 2020, Edward Jones' parent company applied to establish Edward Jones Bank with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and Utah Department of Financial Institutions (UDFI) but withdrew its application in October 2022.
Edward Jones will integrate banking solutions from Citi seamlessly into its online access platform for clients. This announcement comes on the heels of several recent client accolades for providing a comprehensive client experience including a "top performer" ranking from Hearts and Wallets, "Wants & Pricing 2023: Growing Demand for Access, the Allure of “Free”.

A Yes Vote in Support of Proposition 401 this November is a Yes Vote for Sahuarita’s Schools
THIS November, area voters will be asked to approve Proposition 401, a proposed school bond for the Sahuarita Unified School District allowing for a $50 million investment in schools; supporting the efforts to ensure safe, future-ready school facilities with no expected increase to the school tax rate.
After extensive community outreach and engagement with district families, (including the collection of over 700 feedback surveys), the district has shared that this bond presents the opportunity to invest in all schools within the district.
Dr. Valenzuela, Superintendent for the Sahuarita Unified School District, said "This bond measure presents an opportunity to make a transformational, intentional investment and impact on our schools, through enhanced safety measures, technology advancement, renovation and construction of existing facilities, and needed furniture and equipment. The bond package has been collaboratively planned, thoughtfully developed, and designed to support all schools, and the greater community."
The planned investments by the district are in five main areas: Safety ($9 Million), Renovation of Facilities ($15 Million), Construction of Facilities ($19 Million), Technology ($5
Million), and Furniture and Equipment ($2 Million). These investments will help to provide clean, safe, and modern environments and resources for students where they need it most.
According to the district, all schools will receive upgraded security cameras, ballistic resistant glass, cyber security tools, enhancement of public address systems, instructional classroom technology, chairs, desks, and tables - just to name a few.
Intentional planning and careful fiscal management enabled the district to retire old debt and refinance at a historically low interest rate – putting it in the position to save. Furthermore, the continued growth of the greater community in residential and commercial areas has resulted in an increased total assessed valuation, which supports a stable tax assessment.
With the passing of the proposition, K-8 schools in the community will also receive an upgraded playground and courtyard, a cafeteria expansion, and new classrooms for mainstream and special education to support growth. District high schools will receive additional lighting, NJROTC space expansion, enhanced science laboratories, a new performing theater, and much more. Given that the average age of existing school
buildings is thirty years old - with the oldest being over fifty years old- renovation and construction of new facilities on campuses are greatly needed.
Schools have always been a cornerstone of the Sahuarita community, and parents have relied on the schools to provide their children with a quality, engaging and well-rounded education. The children of Sahuarita are dependent on their community to continue supporting measures such as this to maintain and enhance the quality of these schools; this in turn benefits everyone by increasing property values, fostering a stronger and more educated workforce, and more.
This election is an all-mail election, and ballots will arrive in mailboxes mid-October. While voters are encouraged to vote as soon as possible, ballots must be mailed back by October 31st to make the deadline. Voters can also drop off their ballots on Election Day at a Ballot Replacement & Drop-Off location; the one available locally will be at the Sahuarita School District Administration, at 350 W. Sahuarita Rd, Building 10.
Support a bright future for the children of Sahuarita by voting Yes on Proposition 401. For more information and to learn how you can get involved, visit YesforSahuaritaSchools.com.

JACK AND GEORGE TRAIL
Distance: 1.2 miles | Elevation gain: 413 ft | Route type: Out and Back Jack Mountain sits between the famous Mt. Wrightson to the east and Mt. Hopkins to the west. This little peak offers some of the best views in the Santa Ritas and is a blast to climb as well. Several routes can be put together to make a nice loop. This one will consist of going up Old Baldy trail to Josephine Saddle, then heading west on Agua Caliente Trail to Jack, then coming back down on the Carrie Nation Trail.
From the trailhead at the end of the Madera Canyon road take off heading south on the landmark Old Baldy trail. This is a well known trail, and well known to Hike Arizona, so I won't belabor the details. It is 2.2 miles of nice, steady climbing up Old Baldy to the intersection of trails at Josephine Saddle. This saddle can be seen from over the Santa Ritas, and Tucson too for that matter. It's about a 1600 foot climb to Josephine Saddle from the Baldy trailhead. Much of this trail is gorgeous.
From Josephine Saddle head west on the Agua Caliente trail... perhaps one of the prettiest trails in the Santa Ritas. The Agua Caliente trail climbs a little, but mostly just cuts through astoundingly refreshing pine forest. Through the trees are phenomenal views of Wrightson and Madera Canyon. First off, you will skirt the south flank of the nameless peak just east of Jack, which tops out just under 7300 feet. After about 0.4-0.5 miles from Josephine Saddle you will come to the unmarked spur trail to Jack Mountain, which breaks off to your left. The trail is at the point where a ridge runs out to your right, and there is a little campsite and stone fire ring here. The little sput takes only 5 minutes to climb, gaining about 100 feet or so to the summit of Jack Mountain, which sits at roughly 7470. It has wide open views
SEPTEMBER 2023
• September 15 - New Moon. The Moon will be located on the same side of the Earth as the Sun and will not be visible in the night sky. This phase occurs at 01:41 UTC. This is the best time of the month to observe faint objects such as galaxies and star clusters because there is no moonlight to interfere.
• September 19 - Neptune at Opposition. The blue giant planet will be at its closest approach to Earth and its face will be fully illuminated by the Sun. It will be brighter than any other time of the year and will be visible all night long. This is the best time to view and photograph Neptune. Due to its extreme distance from Earth, it will only appear as a tiny blue dot in all but the most powerful telescopes.
• September 22 - Mercury at Greatest Western Elongation. The planet Mercury reaches greatest western elongation of 17.9 degrees from the Sun. This is the best time to view Mercury since it will be at its highest point above the horizon in the morning sky. Look for the planet low in the eastern sky just before sunrise.
out over Madera Canyon, Mt. Hopkins and Pete Mountain to the west and Mt. Wrightson and Josephine Peak to the east. Head back down to the Agua Caliente Trail and continue left or west. The next point of interest will be the unsigned, but easy to follow Carrie Nation Trail. This will break off right and head down the canyon just after a major canyon crossing in roughly 0.2-0.3 miles from the junction of the Jack spur and Agua Caliente. Though not marked it is an obvious trail. If you miss the Carrie Nation trail you can just head down the Vault Mine trail.
Head down the steep Carrie Nation trail as it descends through wonderfully shaded pine forest to access the canyon. The trail eventually meets the canyon then skirts along either side of it for about 0.6 miles, at which point you will come to an "End of Trail" sign, marking the upper end of "maintained" Carrie Nation trail. At the end of the trail region there is an old mine site. Cross over the creek/canyon to the west side and pass by some old machinery. The trail picks up and heads down along a canyon to your right. After about 0.8 miles of easy descending you will come to the signed break off for the Vault Mine trail, which heads up to your left. There is a sign marking the way down to the trailhead. Continue on down the last 0.7-0.8 miles to the trailhead and your car. Madera Creek will be on your left on the way down.
To Madera Canyon Trailhead
From Tucson: I-19 south to exit 63 Continental. At the end of the exit take a left and follow brown signs to Madera Canyon. You'll be taking White House Canyon Road 13.2 miles to Madera Canyon.
• September 23 - September Equinox. The September equinox occurs at 06:43 UTC. The Sun will shine directly on the equator and there will be nearly equal amounts of day and night throughout the world. This is also the first day of fall (autumnal equinox) in the Northern Hemisphere and the first day of spring (vernal equinox) in the Southern Hemisphere.
• September 29 - Full Moon, Supermoon. The Moon will be located on the opposite side of the Earth as the Sun and its face will be fully illuminated. This phase occurs at 09:59 UTC. This full moon was known by early Native American tribes as the Corn Moon because the corn is harvested around this time of year. This moon is also known as the Harvest Moon. The Harvest Moon is the full moon that occurs closest to the September equinox each year. This is also the last of four supermoons for 2023. The Moon will be near its closest approach to the Earth and may look slightly larger and brighter than usual.

New Therapeutic Play Zone Planned for Diamond Children’s F
UNDRAISING by the Banner Health Foundation is underway for the construction of a new “Play Zone” at Diamond Children’s Medical Center at Banner UMC, which will serve as a recreation and therapeutic space for children undergoing treatment. 7,200 sq. ft. at completion, the Play Zone will include 10 unique play spaces, providing patients and families a supportive environment that allows them to ask questions and explore their emotions. Child Life specialists will work with them to build coping skills, decrease anxiety, address their psychosocial well-being, reduce trauma, and prepare for procedures and treatments.
The Play Zone will foster recreation and therapeutic play, reducing trauma and recovery time by lifting the spirits of young patients. The space will also enable Banner’s Child Life Specialists to serve up to 40% more patients, supporting their cognitive, physical, and emotional well-being, reducing trauma, and accelerating recovery time.
Jeremy Sharpe, Managing Partner of Rancho Sahuarita, has been leading the fundraising effort. Sharpe shared that the fundraising goal for building the Play Zone is $3 million, and thus far thanks to the generosity of more than 300 generous donors and companies, over $2,550,000 has been raised to date. “We are beyond grateful for and humbled by the generosity of the community, and know that every dollar counts toward this future space that will serve thousands of children in Southern Arizona.”
Since 2001, the Banner Health Foundation has secured and stewarded philanthropic gifts
in support of Banner Health programs and facilities. As a non-profit healthcare provider, Banner cares for every patient, regardless of their ability to pay. 100% of gifts are allocated directly to support the program or project selected by the donor.
Diamond Children’s Medical Center is Arizona’s only pediatric medical center located on the campus of an academic medical center, and Southern Arizona’s only Level 1 Trauma Center. The children’s hospital has approximately 5,000 admissions and 25,000 outpatient visits annually; providing greatly needed medical services to children and their families.
“I’ve had the opportunity to provide clinical care to patients in a play zone and the magic of the space is truly incredible,” says Hadley Trull, Associate Director of Child Life at Diamond Children’s. “The honest conversations that come from a relaxed environment and the
creative outlet this space provides are unlike anything that can be offered in a hospital room.”
The Play Zone dedicated approach includes medical play, preparation and procedure support, diagnosis education, bereavement support, therapeutic and recreational play, and crucial sibling support. For Sharpe, this has truly been a personal project, and one that has impacted him deeply. “Over a decade ago, the community came together to build Diamond Children’s Medical Center. Having young children, I’m grateful to have a world class children’s hospital in the greater region. Like the hospital, the Play Zone will benefit children for generations to come; providing a space to heal and bringing a sense of joy and light to a place where children need it most.”

American Football
American football is a sport that has a long and rich history that dates back to the late 1800s. It all began when college students in the United States started playing a game that was a cross between soccer and rugby. The first official game of American football was played in 1869 between Rutgers and Princeton. The game was quite different from what we see on the field today, with no yard markers or end zones, and players were allowed to use their fists and feet to tackle and take down their opponents.
Over the years, the rules of American football have been refined and improved upon, making it the beloved game that we know today. One of the most significant changes came in 1906 when President Theodore Roosevelt intervened to make the game safer. At the time, American football was a brutal and dangerous

In the 1920s, the National Football League (NFL) was formed, and this helped to popularize the sport across the United States. The NFL had its roots in the Ohio League, which was formed in 1903. The NFL quickly became the premier professional football league in the country, and it has continued to be so to this day.
