Club Organization

Sahalee Country Club was founded on August 9, 1969 and is incorporated as a nonprofit corporation in the State of Washington and as a tax-exempt Social Club under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)7. It is often asked if the club is a charitable organization for tax deduction purposes, but while we gladly serve as charitable partners in the community, we are nevertheless not a 501(c)3 charity It is important to know that the club protects its tax-exempt status by “behaving” privately: we do not advertise, we do not solicit business, and we are committed to a rigorous membership admission process, all of which have the effect of contributing to a great membership experience

For greater depth on the business organization and governance of Sahalee Country Club, please read and familiarize yourself with the club’s bylaws They govern all that we do and we live by them to the letter You can find the bylaws on the member app

CLUB GOVERNANCE

The club is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of nine Regular members who each serve a three-year term. The President who is elected from amongst the Board of Directors Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Directors comprise the Board. Only Regular members are eligible to serve as Directors. Each year, the Regular members vote on a slate of three candidates who have been vetted and presented by an independent Nominating Committee. Director candidates normally come from the committee system, although all Regular members are welcome to be considered as a candidate.

In November each year, the club conducts an annual meeting whereby Directors are elected, bylaws amendments are voted upon when presented, and a “State of the Club” presentation is also normally made by the President.

Sahalee enjoys a strong and engaged committee system, which works closely with the management team. The committee chairpersons are independent Regular members and are appointed annually by the President to serve alongside a designated Board Liaison The committees are responsible to the Board and act as advisors to the Board and to management, assisting in the development of the club’s programs and activities and in maintaining its membership policies. All purchases including those incurred by sponsored guests should be charged to a member’s club account. Members are required to sign the charge slip and include the member number Cash, check, and card settlement methods may be available

Club Dues

Your monthly membership dues are determined each year by the Board of Directors. As a nonprofit and 501(c)7 taxexempt entity, the club budgets to break even in operations each year, although normally the “bottom line” of the club will show a modest profit or loss. Typically, an “inflation-indexed” dues increase is requested each year, although some years require a smaller or larger dues increase request based on business and programming needs. The budgets are scrutinized annually to assure that they are efficient and consistent with our vision, mission, and strategic plans. In circumstances where the club may incur substantial unanticipated losses, the Board may assess each Proprietary membership up to $300 per year to “true up” the club’s bottom line. This is a tool rarely used, but you should know that it exists

Sahalee Dress Standards

Sahalee Dress Standards reflect the Club’s traditions and values as an internationally respected and premier golf club in the Pacific Northwest They were adopted and embraced by the membership to promote a sense of specialness and exclusivity while giving members and their guests plenty of discretion to express their individual golf and social attire tastes and comforts

While members are oriented to the dress standards during the membership admission process and have agreed to abide by them, some guests may be unaware of our standards. It is the responsibility of members to inform their guests of our dress standards prior to their arrival to avoid embarrassment and inconvenience.

Exceptions to the Sahalee Dress Standards may be made for special events which are previously approved in advance of the event.

compliance with our dress standards Members and guests who are not in compliance will be approached by a manager and requested to comply with the dress standard in question. In all cases, managers will notify the individual of their violation with sensitivity and tact, and members and guests will be expected to respond in kind.

Golfers not in compliance with dress standards will not be allowed access to any golf facility including the practice greens, driving range and golf course until the standard is fulfilled.

In the clubhouse, members and guests not in compliance with dress standards will be requested to comply if readily correctible. If the standard is not readily correctible, the member will be notified via phone call or email to remedy upon the next visit

Acceptable Attire

Dressing in accordance with the Golf Facility Dress Standard is the preferred benchmark Globally, the club’s standard may be summed up as “if you can wear it on the LPGA Tour, PGA Tour, or USGA Championship play, you can wear it at Sahalee. ”When considering dress options, please choose attire that reflects well upon yourself, your family, and the club, including:

§ Collared tops such as golf shirts, turtlenecks, mock turtlenecks, and long-sleeved shirts and sweaters. For men, shirts must be tucked in when on the golf course and when using any of the practice facilities.

§ Bottoms such as slacks, golf shorts, capri pants, skirts, and skorts. Bottoms must be worn at the waistline.

§ Hats must be worn with the bill facing forward.

Unacceptable Attire

Attire considered to be unacceptable at Sahalee Country Club includes:

Children under age 10 must be supervised by an adult or responsible person over the age of 16 to use the golf course, golf practice areas, and clubhouse unsupervised.

Children ages 10 to 14 may be granted unsupervised access to the golf course, practice areas, and clubhouse at the sole discretion of the Director of that area based on the child’s skill, readiness, and safety awareness

Children under the age of 14 are not permitted in the clubhouse locker rooms unless accompanied by an adult age 18 or older

Youth ages 14 and older may access the golf course, golf practice areas, and clubhouse unsupervised

Sign‑In Requirement

Each player must sign in at the Golf Shop before using the golf course or practice facilities. It is important that members register even if only using the range, practice green, or play a few holes and are required to register each guest. This practice helps the Club control play and contact players for messages.

Pace of Play Policy

The pace of play standard for 18 holes of golf is four hours and 10 minutes It is the group’s responsibility to keep up with the group in front If a clear hole is lost and is delaying the group behind, the group behind should be invited to play through irrespective of the number of players Some tips to improve your pace of play:

Play from the appropriate tee blocks according to your distance off the tee

Play “ready golf” when safe to do so

Before it’s your turn, plan your shot and prepare while others are hitting

If a player believes the ball in play may be lost outside a water hazard or is out of bounds, a provisional ball should be played to save time. Players searching for a ball should signal the group behind them to play through as soon as it becomes apparent that the ball will not be easily found.

As you approach the green, leave your clubs or park your cart on the side of the green (or exit point) closest to the next tee.

Use continuous putting where you are able without stepping in a fellow member’s line. Keep putting until the ball is holed.

When bringing guests or playing a match in one of our tournaments, rent a power cart to help play at a faster pace.

When bringing novice or beginning golfer guests to your club, schedule a time when the course is in a more casual mode, generally in the afternoons after 2:00

Consider taking a forecaddie for guests who have not played the course before

Golf Course Care

Sahalee Country Club covers approximately 225 acres. We are very proud of our golf course conditioning and are committed to providing the very best playing conditions for our members. It is every member’s responsibility to take care of the course as your own.

Divots

it is the responsibility of those who make divots to fill the divots Push carts and golf cars have sand/seed attached For those who carry their bag, we have small tubes of sand/seed that will fit in a golf bag pocket or hook on; the tubes are lightweight and the golf course will regenerate itself much quicker Fill the area flush, not mounded Sand/seed stations are located throughout the facility

Ball Marks on Greens

Fix your ball marks PLUS one more. If everyone does this, within a short period of time, there won’t be others to fix; just your own.

Push/Pull Carts and Remote-Control Hand Carts

Be sure to keep all push/pull carts and remote-controlled hand carts away from the greens and tees Do not take your cart between greenside bunkers and the green or between bodies of water and the bunker or green

Sand Bunkers

Rake your sand bunker after you hit out of it. When you are done, please leave the rake outside of the bunker in an area that is close to the front or back end of the bunker, away from the green, with the rake handle parallel to play.

Driving Range Divots

This picture demonstrates the right and wrong way to utilize the range Both of these groups of divots are from 25 iron shots, you can see how the left side is the proper method We have a very limited space to use in the grass area If you need some assistance on how to accomplish this look, ask one of our golf professionals that you see on the range

Pick Up Your Tees

Please pick up your broken and unbroken tees when you are finished teeing off. It makes the area look much cleaner and saves wear and tear on the mowers. On par threes, don’t leave your broken tees for the next person, and please don’t step on them to press them straight down into the turf.

Fivesomes

Fivesomes are permitted only at the discretion of the Golf Professional on duty When permitted, if such a group falls one full hole behind the group ahead, then they must allow the following players to play through or may be broken up by Golf Shop staff.

with your ball and proceed at 90 degrees, perpendicular to the line of play. After hitting your shot, return to the path and repeat as necessary. The club realizes that in some cases it is not conducive to pace of play to return to the path between every shot. Members are expected to use their best judgment in such situations, returning golf cars to paths whenever it is practical and efficient to do so.

Golf cars are to remain on the path around the green and to the next tee where curbs are present. No golf cars are allowed on the par-3 holes at any time except for flag users.

Golf car use will be restricted to “carts on paths only” on days when conditions preclude golf cars driving on turf. Under adverse conditions, flag users are also restricted to the cart paths.

Flags

The Golf Professional must approve members requesting flags for golf car flag status Proof of a disability, medical condition or other identifying information that states the user has a condition that necessitates the use of a golf car off the cart paths during times of restriction must accompany the request

The Golf Shop shall keep a written record of those who are permitted a flag Authorized members must check in at the Golf Shop and, once authorization is confirmed and if course conditions permit, a flag will be issued for the day

Flag players may share a golf car with another member or guest who is not on the flag list, but the approved flag member must check out the golf car

Flag players are expected to adhere to the 90-degree rule and all other travel restrictions

Flag players are expected to understand that using a golf car on the course on days when non-flagged golf cars are restricted to the paths may adversely affect the turf, soil, and the overall playability of the golf course They should take extra care to avoid damaging the course when using a golf car at these times

Range Turf Use

The practice range is comprised of a synthetic turf deck and a natural turf deck. The natural turf deck is only used during the defined golf season and on days of peak usage due to space limitations and excessive wear from constant use, generally speaking on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Synthetic turf is used Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and for certain golf events. Please note that the Director of Agronomy may adjust this schedule at their discretion due to weather, maintenance or construction projects.

Rules, Golf Etiquette, Priority, and Pace of Play

No player shall play until the players ahead are out of range.

No one should move, talk, or stand close to or directly behind the ball or the hole when a player is addressing the ball or making a stroke, nor should they stop or stand on the line of another player’s putt

Players searching for a ball should allow other players coming up to play through and should signal so They should not continue their play until the overtaking group has passed and is clearly out of range

If a group fails to keep its pace on the course and loses more than one clear hole on the players ahead, that group should allow the players following it to play through

Before leaving a bunker, a player should carefully fill up and smooth over all holes made by him or her therein using the rake provided for that purpose Always enter the bunker at the lower side and rake from the low to the high side. Replace the rake outside of the bunker away from the play with the handle parallel to the line of play after use.

Golf bags must not be placed on the putting green at any time.

Players must be sure not to damage the putting green when removing or setting down a flagstick. Balls must be removed from the cup by hand only not with the putter! The flagstick must be properly replaced in the hole before the players leave the green.

Players should leave the green immediately after the play of the hole has been completed.

Mark balls on the green with a coin or other marker directly behind the member’s ball. Do not scrape the surface of the green for a marking.

Do not scrape feet or pivot on the greens This type of injury to putting surfaces is difficult to repair

Handicap strokes are allocated to each nine separately When a player receives an odd number of strokes, the last handicap stroke will be for the first nine played

When playing while the golf course maintenance crew is working or mowing on the course, catch their attention before hitting The course staff is instructed to stop what they are doing and move out of your way
