Important 2024 KPMG Women's PGA Championship Related Dates and Hours of Operation Monday, June 3rd East Course closes officially for the Championship, and power carts will be restricted to paths for the championship course (South/North).

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE FROM NORMAN CHEUK We hope this message finds you well and enjoying the beautiful spring weather. We have some exciting updates to share about our club and the upcoming KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.

Around the Club Thanks to all of you who took part in the recent member survey. We had over 480 members from all membership categories participate, with over 77% of the responses coming from proprietary/spousal members. Club management, the Board, and the respective committees will be analyzing the results and identifying areas of strength as well as opportunities for improvement. We will share the key findings and the action plans in a separate communication shortly. However, there is one key stat I want to share: Over 90% responded they are proud to be a Sahalee member. We still have work to do to get to 100%, but 90%+ is a good start.

IMany of you may have noticed some of the new updates at the Club. Based on our Asset Reserve Study plan for 2024, Vinny, with the support of the House Committee, has done an outstanding job in completing several updates ahead of the KPMG including the new Championship Trophies Case in the Hall of Champions, resurfacing the patio, and the newly renovated restrooms across from the Acton Room. It has been great to see these projects completed on time to help showcase our club and our history as the summer approaches.

I have received many questions about our Director of Golf (DoG) search. Ben Minyard and Tom DeMico are leading the DoG Search Committee and are working with the PGA ExecuSearch. We have a group of highly qualified candidates from some of the top clubs from around the country. Virtual interviews have already started with the PGA ExecuSearch; interviews with the DoG Search Committee have just started. Once we narrow the field, we will have the top candidates on site at Sahalee for a second set of interviews.

On the Course Thanks to the hard work by Charlie and our grounds crew, Sahalee is in excellent shape for the season. We have received many compliments from members and guests on the course conditions, in particular the quality of the greens, fairways, and bunkers. We encourage you to play and practice in championship conditions ahead of the June 12 course and clubhouse closure in preparation for the KPMG. Speaking of play, the new Pace of Play policy came into effect May 15. As we all know, slow play can ruin an otherwise delightful day. Pace of play should be on all members’ (and their guests’) frame of mind when at the Club. Since implementing the new policy, the golf staff have seen both member and guest rounds come in more consistently under 4 hours 10 minutes. Terrific work!

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE FROM NORMAN CHEUK The KPMG Women’s PGA Championship In just a few short weeks, the top players in the world will start arriving at Sahalee for the KPMG Women's PGA Championship. Our Tournament Director, Tyler Dion, Tournament Executive Committee, and Committee Chairs have done an outstanding job in conjunction with the PGA to make this a monumental event. The Championship will be telecast globally and will showcase the Club and our course to the world from June 18 to June 23. We encourage you to be a part of this historic occasion, either spectating at the Club or volunteering. Sahalee Championship tickets, with access to the Member Viewing Suite on Hole 12 and hospitality experiences, are still available for purchase here. Your member number is the access code for Sahalee Member Ticket purchases. Also, volunteer opportunities are still available and include marshaling, scoring, transportation, and hospitality.

In closing, the next month is going to be very exciting around Sahalee. We will have the Men’s MemberMember, Women’s Spring Field Day, the SPC Preview, Wine Tastings, Live Music Nights, Father’s Day, and the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. LESLIE LUDLOW, CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER/GM Dear Sahalee Members, I hope you are enjoying what finally feels like the beautiful summer has arrived here at the High Heavenly Ground. With robust activity occurring all around the course and throughout the Clubhouse, there is no doubt that season is here in full swing! Let’s dive right in!

Kicking it off with Membership, we are thrilled to report an incredible start to the year with 54 new membership sales through May. This includes 19 Proprietary Members, with 9 being internal upgrades from other categories. For perspective, we sold 18 total Proprietary Members last year and 16 in 2022. The balance of the memberships has been spread across other membership categories, with the majority of those being our new Young Professional Memberships by which we have added 13 new members to this category already since its inception in April! As you see new faces around the clubhouse and out on the golf course, please join me and the rest of the team in welcoming them to their new club home.

Additionally, we have successfully retained many of our great former Proprietary & Senior Members through our new Social, Dining, and National membership categories. These members had previously been on the resignation list, so we are thrilled to have found a solution to keep these wonderful people in the Sahalee Family. Both the momentum and pipeline are growing in a way that is showing stabilization in membership.

A special thank you to Deann for her exceptional efforts in driving these membership sales.

May was a fantastic month for member events at Sahalee. Aside from some fantastic golf, the Ladies really showed off with their Mad Hatter theme, with food & beverage doing it justice with great food & festive libations! Additionally, our Mother’s Day Brunch was a delightful event, bringing together members and their families for a memorable celebration filled with pearls, flowers, and free flowing champagne. The team received so many wonderful compliments particularly surrounding the elegance and beauty of the room, décor and buffet! These events have truly highlighted the strong sense of community and camaraderie that we cherish at Sahalee.

Looking around the grounds and throughout the Clubhouse, it is evident that the team has been busy with projects. The new trophy case is stunning and will soon provide a breath-taking welcome upon the entrance of the Clubhouse. This display that will include all of our National Trophies will put an undeniable exclamation point on the history of the High Heavenly Ground. Whether it has been smaller maintenance projects such as the desperately needed striping of the parking lot, resurfacing of the practice green paths and patio, painting the back stairs or the show case projects like the renovated Acton Bar Restrooms, we wanted to ensure that we put our best foot forward in making our membership proud as we step onto the National Stage.

Speaking of all eyes being on Sahalee, the excitement is building as we prepare to host the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship in just two weeks. As you have likely seen, the buildout is in full effect with structures going up all around the course. We are so honored to welcome some of the finest athletes in the world to our fairways. The timing couldn’t be better for Sahalee to shine as this is arguably the very best season in the history of the LPGA. The stakes couldn’t be higher, and this prestigious event promises thrilling storylines: Will Nelly win another championship? Can Brooke repeat her 2016 victory? Will Stacie end her career with a bang?

Can Lydia secure her Hall of Fame-clinching win? These are just a few of the captivating narratives that will unfold. Make sure you are here to witness all the action in person! We are looking forward to a great season and watching this next chapter in Sahalee History be written!

In closing, while there is so much to look forward to in the month of June, it will also be both personally and professionally bittersweet for me as we say goodbye to Bryan Nicholson, PGA. Aside from being the embodiment of a “Pro’s Pro” and easily a Top 20 Director of Golf in our industry, he has been a valued colleague, incredible thought partner, and someone who has easily become one of my best friends. He has left an indelible mark during his tenure at Sahalee, elevating every component of the Golf Operation from process to amenities and most importantly culture within the golf team. Along with the rest of the staff, we are wishing him nothing but the best and all the success that he will inevitably bring to a very lucky club in Denver.

MEMBERSHIP DIRECTOR DEANN ANDERSON Sunshine, smiles, and the invigorating scent of freshly cut grass greet me as I step onto the beautiful grounds of Sahalee daily. This vibrant atmosphere is shared by many, and it's no wonder we've welcomed an influx of enthusiastic new members into our community. Our growing membership reflects the joy and energy that Sahalee exudes, making it an even more exciting place to be.

In the first half of the year, we've welcomed around 20 new members to our Proprietary membership. Our newly introduced Young Professional Membership is off to a fantastic start, attracting 15 new members. Across all membership categories, a total of 54 members have joined or upgraded their membership, enhancing the vibrant community we proudly call our home away from home.

With the KPMG tournament just weeks away, it's the perfect time to invite your family, friends, and colleagues to experience not only the world-class talent of the Ladies PGA golfers but also the stunning beauty of our course, the camaraderie among members, and the warm hospitality of our clubhouse. We are excited about the KPMG, and I will continue to hire additional staff for the season. We have a few familiar faces that were here last year. Please be patient with staff learning everyone’s names.

Following the KPMG and by the middle of July, we will be rolling out some new menu items, and new menus for Brunch, lunch, and dinner. We have extended our hours on Wednesday and Saturday until 9:00pm. We will also be extending brunch on Saturdays to 1:00pm and Sundays until 2:00pm when we roll out the new brunch menu.

This season we will have a portable bar station on the patio for quicker drink service.

I want to thank the membership for your emails and respond to the table side and event surveys. These are extremely important so that we can adapt and correct matters in real time.

LETTER FROM PGA DIRECTOR OF GOLF

Bryan Nicholson Sahalee Members, I humbly submit my final contribution for this month’s Tom Tom, as I now round out my responsibilities as your Pro. It has been an honor for me to serve the membership of Sahalee, and I humbly approached these responsibilities over three years ago. When my wife and I made the trek from North Texas, the Northwest seemed at the time like a whole other country. However, what we discovered was a truly welcoming and inclusive environment from new friends that made us feel right at home. We have truly enjoyed living in the Northwest, and the weather never bothered us. Audra and I most definitely have plans to make trips back in the future. During my tenure, I remained steadfast in recognizing the heroic efforts of the Founders of Sahalee, as their vision and commitment were instrumental in getting this project originally off the ground. In a small way, I believe I had a hand in perpetuating their original vision. My time of three years is very small, but Sahalee will most definitely enjoy many more successes into the future!

I’ll admit, the journey has not been an easy one. I strived to improve the golf experience from the first day I arrived and then worked diligently to improve the golf culture for the membership. One of the earliest challenges, most importantly, was to build a winning team, and turn the tide on the reputation of Sahalee in the local golf community. As I reflect upon these three years, I am very proud of what I was able to do for the members of the Club. Sahalee is most definitely in a better place than I found it, and whomever takes the Director of Golf role will find far more resources and a well-trained team that is dedicated to preserving the Sahalee golf experience.

The past 30 days have been very interesting for me personally as I have been juggling balls at two clubs and working on our 4th major Championship with the PGA of America team. As the countdown continues until Sahalee welcomes the world of golf to the High Heavenly Ground, I’ve found myself taking in and admiring the sheer beauty of the club and the 27 holes we are blessed to have. The reputation of Sahalee on a national golf scene and it’s meaning to the world of golf is one that should never be taken for granted. As evidenced, in just a few weeks’ time, we will add another chapter into the lore of Sahalee, and one that will undoubtedly transcend decades.

The team has been extremely busy on the front half of 2024, completing one of the more arduous and aggressive golf calendars in advance of the Championship. This is a historic undertaking – major championship, member-member, invitationals, and more this season! Given the unusual nature of the golf calendar, the Member-Member championships fell into spring rather than their customary late summer placements. The Golf Committee was adamant about keeping the back half of 2024 as free as possible for members to enjoy their club and course, unimpeded by a multitude of golf events. I think this has been a resounding success, and I know the team will breathe a sigh of relief as we complete this spring golf event run.

The third week of June will be a monumental week for the Club, women’s golf, and the PGA of America. On the heels of the news of retirement from Lexi Thompson, all eyes will be on Nelly Korda with her incredible run to start this season. We also look forward to welcoming back Brooke Henderson, following her epic 7 iron in the playoff against Lydia Ko. I am excited to help oversee the administration of this Championship, and I hope many Sahalee members will take advantage of this opportunity to connect with the best players in the world.

Your support is very important, as it will hopefully fuel additional+ interest in hosting future major championships at Sahalee. This month, I am also excited to announce the near completion of the trophy case in the Hall of Champions. If all stays on track, we will have the Wannamaker, US Senior Open trophy, the Women’s PGA, and the SPC perpetual on display for everyone to take in. Members should be very proud of this space and we most certainly be the envy of all peer clubs and guests that make their journey through the clubhouse.

I will close this space with some thanks and gratitude to those that helped in my journey at Sahalee. I first want to acknowledge the entire golf professional staff, who have been unbelievably supportive along the way. We built an incredible program together, and we should all be proud of this success. It was not an easy journey, but those months of work without days off in the summer of 2021 seem like a distant memory.

I want to take a moment to acknowledge the Sahalee agronomy team. For those curious, the communication and the relationship between “Pro” and “Super” is one of the most critical of any on a club’s property. We have an unbelievable duo with Charlie Schauwecker and Pat Oien. Their dedication to the craft is uncanny, and the golf course has never been better in my time at the Club.

I want to thank the members that supported me along the way and helped push me to elevate the Sahalee golf experience to a modern and refreshed feel. Finally, I would be remised if I didn’t share a big thanks to Leslie Ludlow, who has been steadfast in her support of me, my vision for the golf operation, and the dedication to achieving team success. We both believe in process mapping, having the right people collaborating together to create a winning product.

I’ve been blessed to be part of this team, and I’m grateful for the opportunity that was bestowed upon me. I can say I left my mark, and for that, Thanks, Sahalee! You will never be forgotten in my heart and mind, and I will be watching closely from Denver and wishing everyone all the very best!

Members who are volunteers of the Championship will not need to purchase a ticket, but will have access to the Sahalee Member Club with their personalized volunteer credential.

Sahalee Members who have purchased Sahalee Member Club Tickets will receive special parking on course - location TBC* One (1) parking pass will be provided to each Member number regardless of how many Sahalee Member Club Tickets have been purchased.

Please note, if Members should need additional parking for family and friends above the one (1) allotted parking pass, offsite parking will be available at the PGA General Public Parking Lot (Lot GP) - location TBC. In the event of inclement weather, Members will be directed to park at Lot GP. This decision will be made in cooperation with Sahalee and the PGA of America and communicated via email the day prior.

Sahalee Member Volunteers Member volunteers who were not able to attend Volunteer Uniform and Credential Distribution in April, please plan to pick up your uniform and credential the day of your on-site training, June 14th and 15th, or before your first shift during the Championship. All volunteer uniforms will be available for pickup in Volunteer Headquarters.

Host an LPGA Player The LPGA is still looking for members to host one or more players at their homes during the Championship. Hosts have the unique opportunity to get to know players on a personal level. You will also be providing a great service, allowing them to save on their weekly expenses, as well as give them a comfortable environment as they travel.

Hosts must be members of Sahalee Country Club.

Champion Spotlight Nelly Korda won the 2021 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship at Atlanta Athletic Club, marking her first career Major Championship victory. With an aggregate score of 269, she would match a Championship record-tying total score of -19.

Nelly recaptured No. 1 in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings earlier this year during her streak of winning 5 consecutive starts on the LPGA Tour, while also capturing her second Major title after winning the Chevron Championship in April.

Nelly will look for Major win number three when she tees it up here at Sahalee Country Club, June 20th to June 23rd.

TURF TALK

June Turf Talk Entering June activity on the course(s) at Sahalee is at a near alltime high! With preparations for the Women’s PGA Championship being finalized, numerous golf events being hosted, and daily golf play battling the elements and taking full advantage of the intermittent sunny days, Sahalee is ready for a historic 2024 season ahead.

To highlight just a small portion of the work completed this spring in preparation for the 2024 golf season and Sahalee’s hosting of the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship see below: Returfing tees and extensive rough overseed Reestablishment of chipped areas and grass lines Expanded annual flower planting Cart path repair work Perennial landscape improvements Restoration of timber course features Tee and fairway yardage plaque update I’d like to extend a big thank you and congratulations to our Sahalee team for all of their outstanding work to prepare our course(s). With the help of nearly 50 agronomy volunteers representing clubs from across the country, we look forward to once again presenting Sahalee on the world stage in a few short weeks!

SWD Captain Julie Reid Golf season is in full swing. We kicked off our year with Opening Day on April 23 under beautiful blue skies. The team of Rose Crowe, HwanBong Oh, Juli Johnson, and Gloria Zobrist were net -17 to take home first place.

Congratulations to them for great teamwork!

Thanks to Janet Hild and Christie Price for taking charge of this successful event.

The SWD Member/Member was held on Thursday and Friday, May 16-17.

Many thanks to Amy Andersen and Karen Ganey for asking us to go down the rabbit hole with them for the Mad Hatter experience. In addition to the tournament, we had a par 3 challenge course and a putting contest. The 2024 Member-Member Champions are Trina Kain and Lily Hsu with a net of 133 (-11) for the competition! Well done ladies.

The team of Michelle Hood and Jeanne Link took home gross of the field.

Congratulations to Jeanne Link who scorched an ace on 9N the first day of the tournament.

Next up is our Spring Field Day on June 4. This is a super fun event, and I encourage you all to sign up. Our registration is currently sitting at 44, but I know we can do better. Remember, if you don't have a team, let the Pro Shop or me know; we would love to help you get a team together for "A Night At The Movies."

Congratulations are also in order for Kim Shek who got a hole in 1 on #12 during Team play at Meridian on April 11, and also to Becky Brady who had her first hole in 1 Tuesday, May 14th on 4E!

TROPHY DAY In honor of the upcoming 2024 KPMG Women' s PGA Championship, Sahalee hosted a Trophy day so members could come and take a professional photo with the coveted KPMG Trophy!

We are grateful to be hosting this alongside Mark and Sue Ursino. Mark will be taking photography and prints for all members, complimentary!

Make & Take at Sahalee April Paint & Sip Paint the Town lead a delightful experience of creativity at Sahalee!
