May this festival of lights bring you and your loved ones joy, prosperity, and an abundance of happiness.
On 27 July, from 3pm to 5pm, the Club hosted our Members Appreciation Party in the Lazarus Ballroom at Quarterdeck. It was buzzed with excitement as Members gathered for an unforgettable afternoon!
The event featured a tea reception that satisfied all taste buds, from savory appetizers to delectable desserts, bringing together Members over good food and great conversations.
A highlight of the event was the selection of games we had from the Carnival by the Straits, which added a playful and competitive spirit to the afternoon, especially the young ones!
A nostalgic Kacang Puteh station brought back memories, adding a delightful old-school charm to the atmosphere.
Members also had the opportunity to take home personalised mementos, sketched by a talented caricature artist who captured everyone's unique features in a fun and artistic way.
The event was a fantastic opportunity for Members to mingle, reconnect, and create new friendships, making it a truly memorable occasion!
We thank our Members who attended and hope you had fun as much as we had planning it! What would you like for the next Members Appreciation Party?
For any suggestions, please email us at events@safyc.org.sg
On 24 August, the PowerBoat Sub-Committee organised a boat and seafood lunch to Smith Marine Kelong, located off Pulau Ubin. The event saw participation from 12 Members, with 5 of them travelling on their jet skis, adding an adventurous touch to the gathering.
Upon arrival, Members treated themselves to a feast of fresh seafood. The scenic surroundings, with the calm waters and rustic charm of the kelong, set the perfect backdrop for a relaxed and enjoyable afternoon.
As the group were having lunch, conversation flowed easily, with Members sharing stories about their boating journeys, and adventures on the water. Everyone had a fantastic time, making it a memorable day filled with camaraderie and good food.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Kelong Lunch! Hope to see you again next time!
The Friendship Regatta is an annual Optimist Regatta, organised in collaboration with Shanghai Rowing Canoeing Yachting Association (China), Busan Sailing Federation (South Korea), Fukuoka Junior Yacht Club (Japan), and SAF Yacht Club. Each year, the Regatta is hosted by a different city, and SAFYC proudly served as the host for this year's edition of the Regatta.
Our friends from overseas arrived on 9 August and went to NSRCC to set up their equipment. Afterwards, they went out on the water for a practice race to familiarise themselves with Singapore's conditions. Upon returning to shore, they were brought to SAFYC, where we hosted an Opening Ceremony dinner. During the dinner, the sailors from overseas took turns introducing themselves and there was a gift exchange ceremony amongst all the participating clubs. The evening concluded with a friendly "Prawning Competition", which all the sailors thoroughly enjoyed!
Special thanks to Gills Fishing for hosting the session.
With a total of 76 participants from 4 countries, the sailors arrived early to prepare their equipment. Although the start was delayed due to dark clouds and a heavy downpour, the skies cleared up in time for the first race, which commenced around 11:30am. The conditions were challenging, with storm clouds looming south of the racing area and winds gusting up to 20 knots. It was a tough task for the young sailors to navigate through these conditions. Despite light showers and strong winds, they persevered and completed 4 races on the Day 1.
Once the races had ended, our Members gave our friends from overseas a tour of Singapore. Our friends enjoyed some local cuisine and spent time with each other at a play park, fully embracing the true spirit of "Friendship Regatta".
The final day of racing took place with favourable conditions, which allowed us to start on time. Race 5 began at 10:30am, with much lighter winds compared to the previous day, gusting around 10 knots. The real challenge, however, was the constant wind shifts, with oscillations of up to 20 degrees, making it a particularly demanding day for the sailors. Despite the tricky conditions, we successfully completed all 7 scheduled races!
The Closing Ceremony and Prize Presentation were held in Lazarus Ballroom at Quarterdeck. After the awards were handed out, our friends delighted us with a special performance by their sailors. The Japanese and South Korean teams showcased their cultural dances, earning loud cheers and applause from everyone in attendance.

On the night of their departure, our sailors rushed down from National Sailing Centre, where they competed in the recent Singapore National Sailing Championships, to Singapore Changi Airport to catch their flight to Qingdao, China to participate in the Qingdao International Optimist Training Camp & Regatta 2024. The event saw participation of sailors from Australia, China, New Zealand, Poland, Russia, Singapore, South Africa and Thailand.
The Singapore team, led by Coach Xiaodong, had 8 sailors representing SAF Yacht Club.
Upon arrival, our sailors were greeted by the organisers at the hotel. Later in the evening, the organisers hosted a dinner, which gave our sailors an opportunity to mingle with sailors from overseas.
The weather conditions were challenging throughout the entire course of the regatta, with strong currents and shifty winds ranging from 3-7 knots. Despite the challenge, the race officials managed to run 4 qualifying races the first 2 days and 6 final races to conclude the regatta! Our sailors put up a strong fight against their competitors, with the help of Coach Xiaodong.
Our sailors departed early to catch a glimpse of the racing area, as well as setting up their equipment, after which they went out on water for a short sail. After training, they attended the Opening Ceremony.
As the race officials managed to complete the races by day 4, the organisers gave the sailors a tour around the city, visiting various landmarks.
The Closing Ceremony was conducted on the final day. Our sailors managed to amaze the crowd with their dance performances. The night was filled with awards, performances, as well as gift exchange amongst SAF Yacht Club and the organisers.

A total of 5 boats participated in the fourth series of BTR. It was a rare sight to see SAF Yacht Club’s seafront was filled with boats as our Optimist Squads, who would normally train at our satellite training site at NSRCC, were at the Club due to the effects of the oil spill in June.
The currents were strong, and winds were getting lighter. Unfortunately, the race was abandoned after 90 minutes, as the winds were not sufficient to combat the current.
With 6 boats participating in this series of BTR, t gusty winds reaching up to 15 knots! Race 1 bro upwind leg to Simpang Buoy before a tricky do Beaulieu to Port before crossing the finishing lin the race in under 1 hour and 10 minutes kud
