Protecting important data, confidential information, networks, software, equipment, facilities, company's assets, and personnel is what physical security is about. There are two factors by which the security can be affected. First attack by nature like a flood, fire, power fluctuation, etc. Though the information will not be misused, it is very hard to retrieve it and may cause permanent loss of data. Second is attack by the malicious party, which includes terrorism, vandalism, and theft. All the organization faces different kinds of physical security threats. Physical security is very important, but it is usually overlooked by most organizations. It is necessary if you do not want anyone to snatch away your information or destroy it, in case of natural calamity The reason could be anything, the attacker doing it for personal gain, financial gain, for seeking revenge or you were the vulnerable target available. If this security is not maintained properly, all the safety measures will be useless once the attacker gets through by gaining physical access. Though physical security is proving to be challenging than previous decades as there are more sensitive devices available (like USB drives, laptops, smartphones, tablets, etc.) that enables the stealing of data easy and smooth. As mentioned before there are fewer measures used for physical security and no one pays heed to it as attention is mostly on technology oriented security This slip-up gives the attacker a chance to exploit data or open ports. They scheme plans of penetrating the network through unauthorized means. Though there are internal threats too, for example, employees that have access to all the areas of the company can steal the assets with ease.

Final Thoughts

A company needs administrative, technical, and physical control to run their organization smoothly. Administrative controls include construction, site location, emergency response and technical controls include CCTV, smart cards for access, guards while physical controls consist of intrusion alarms, perimeter security Physical security's main objective is to protect the assets and facilities of the organization. So the foremost responsibility of physical security is to safeguard employees since they are an important asset to the company Their safety is the first priority followed by securing the facilities. Physical security is usually overlooked when it comes to security. Most companies tend to take care of technical and administrative aspects of security All the firewalls, intrusion detector system, cryptography, and other security measures would be useless if someone were able to break in and steal the assets or important data.

Hikvision launches MinMoe Iris Recognition Terminal for higher level access security

Hikvision has launched its MinMoe Iris Recognition Terminal, providing a higher level security solution for the access control market. Formed in an early stage of human development, the pattern of each iris is unique and remains remarkably stable over the rest of a person's life. The details of the iris are so rich and complex, it is virtually impossible to copy them. This makes it an ideal biometric character for authorized access control to accurately identify and distinguish different people.

Hikvision's MinMoe Iris Recognition Terminal can quickly verify unique characters of an iris within 1 second, and the recognition distance can be as far as 70cm. The terminal also features color imaging and video anti-counterfeiting, to guarantee accuracy and safety of access authentication. With just a glance, it can quickly verify identification, with no need to remove goggles, glasses, hard hat, or other PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).

Besides the iris recognition, the terminal supports a number of other authentication methods, including face recognition, fingerprint, and cards. This means it can offer more options and flexibility for access control solutions.

These provide an accurate, secure and convenient access control solution for scenarios where a high level of security is needed, such as bank vaults, scientific laboratories, and hospitals.

“In the past few decades, authorized access control has moved a long way away from the keys, pin codes and ID cards. The market is now stepping into the era of biometrics,” said Carvin Ying, Access Control Product Manager at Hikvison.

According to Ying, biometric access controls bring inherent advantages, like higher security and efficiency with reduced counterfeiting. They verify within seconds – or fractions of seconds – and prevent unnecessary physical contact. Iris and facial recognition offer touchless access control a hygienic practice more and more favored in the market.

Hikvision introduces new Pro series PTZ cameras with ColorVu

Hikvision has announced new additions to its Pro series PTZ cameras, including the integration of ColorVu technology for the first time in this range. With ColorVu, Hikvision's new Pro series cameras can provide consistent image brightness and full color imaging as the camera zooms in and out. This ensures crystal-clear details and vivid color for distant objects at all times and in all conditions.

Revolutionary "ColorVu + Varifocal" integration

Traditional PTZ cameras often struggle to ensure that images remain bright and clear when they zoom in, especially in low light conditions. This is because the lens aperture gets smaller when operators increase the focal length, reducing the light entering the lens and thereby impacting the clarity of images.

One way to solve this issue is to adjust the size of the aperture as the focal length changes, so that a consistent amount of light can enter the lens. With Hikvision ColorVu technology, a very large fixed aperture is used in the Pro series varifocal PTZ cameras, enabling consistent light and color imaging as the camera zooms in or out at night. The new PTZ cameras' fixed F1.2 lens aperture allows as much as 14x more light to enter the lens compared to conventional PTZ units. This same capability also ensures vivid and full-color imaging

in light conditions as low as 0.0005 lux: or nearly total darkness. The result is bright and colored images, even in extremely low light conditions or at night.

The camera also has a warm supplemental LED light that further illuminates the field of vision, allowing objects and events to be captured in full color within the 100-meter range.

Further increasing security capabilities with AcuSense

In addition to ColorVu, Hikvision Pro series cameras have also been equipped with AcuSense technology, which distinguishes between real security threats and harmless moving objects such as animals, falling leaves, and changing lights.

This smart classification capability means that alarms are only triggered in the event of real security threats. In such cases, the PTZ lens follows the detected threats and sends automated alerts to home or business owners, security teams, or Alarm Receiving Centers (ARCs).

The ability to detect real security threats in real time, and to reduce false alarms, means that security end users and teams can respond to security incidents quickly and effectively and minimize negative impacts This is especially vital for protecting site perimeters, key entrances and exits, and other restricted areas.

November 2022 - www.safesecuremagazine.com 19

AI will be Everywhere: Nowadays, Artificial Intelligence is quite common in the security industry More customers in the industry have recognized the value of AI, and have found new uses for AI applications in various scenarios. Along with ANPR, automated event alerts, and false alarm reduction, AI technologies are being used for wider applications, like Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) detection, fall detection for the elderly, mine surface detection, and much more.

AIoT to Digitize and Pervade Across Verticals: With more security cameras and other security devices being connected to the network, the security industry is becoming an important part of an IoT world, enriching its visual capabilities. It's apparent that the boundaries of the security industry are blurring, going well beyond the physical security arena. Meanwhile the popularization of AI technology enables the connected devices to become intelligent “things” in the IoT world. The combination of AI and IoT, or as we call it, AIoT, is taking the security industry to a higher plain, automating the workflows and procedures of enterprises and aiding in the digital transformation of various industry verticals such as energy, logistics, manufacturing, retail, education, healthcare, etc

Converged Systems will break down Data Silos: Workers throughout private enterprises and public service sectors alike would jump at the chance to get rid of obstructive “data silos ” Data and information scattered and isolated in disparate systems or groups create barriers to information sharing and collaboration, preventing managers from getting a holistic view of their operations. Here, the convergence of various information systems has been proven to be an effective approach hopefully enough to break down those silos It's clear the trend in the security industry has been to make efforts to converge systems whereverpossible, includingvideo, accesscontrol, alarms, fire prevention, andemergencymanagement, to name a few.

Cloud-BasedSolutionsandServiceswillbeEssential:

Like AI, the cloud is not a new trend in our industry, but it is an expanding one From small business markets to enterprise levels, we can see the momentum push more and more businesses to leverage cloud-based security solutions and services.

Crystal Clear Security Imaging will be Standard: It is always vital for video security cameras, as a core function to maintain image clarity and capture details 24 hours a day, in any weather and under any condition. Cameras with low light imaging technology that renders high definition and full color images at night and in nearly completely dark environments have been very welcome in the market We are taking note of the impressive technology applied to more camera models, including 4K, Varifocal and PTZ cameras.

The 'Zero Trust' approach will take the Cybersecurity Spotlight: With more security devices connecting over the Internet than anyone ever imagined, cybersecurity has

become an immense challenge in the industry. The term “Zero Trust” has become a hot word just in recent years. A strategic initiative that developed to prevent data breaches by eliminating the concept of trust from an organization's network architecture, Zero Trust is rooted in a philosophy of “ never trust, always verify”.

 The security industry has become a high-tech, dynamic world to operate in. What new and exciting things can we expect to see over the next decade from theindustry?Whatareyourfutureplans?

By all appearances, the security industry is in a stage of redefining itself. It is moving from the realm of security and safety to encompass a wider scope of activities that will expand the role of traditional safety and security definitions. The new technologies like IoT, AI, Robotics, Machine Vision and Blockchain are bringing new levels of intelligence and sustainability to communities, companies and societies.

With innovations and smart integration now the latest IoT and AI enabled security systems and apps, are able to take the physical security industry to the next level. We are committed to serving various industries through its cutting edge technologies of machine perception, artificial intelligence, and big data.

We will continue to provide a broad range of physical security products, covering video security, access control, and alarm systems by expanding and ramping up 'Make in India' manufacturing facility We will also provide integrated security solutions powered by AI technology to support end users with new applications and possibilities for safety management and business intelligence.

 What is your message to the security business community?

The Indian security industry is poised to take a big leap; we all need to prepare for the next level of growth in terms of product innovation, technology integration, customization of the vertical solutions and service support. We are grateful for the trust of our ecosystem partners Dealers, Distributors and System Integrators.

The System Integrators are at the core of B2B security business scenario, they move the projects from inception to completion. The contemporary challenges faced by the security industry can be addressed by product innovation, technology training and agile service support. There is a huge demand for credible and certified trained System Integrators, which remains unfulfilled. While security industry is growing at an exponential rate, it is best advised to be a trained and certified System Integrator to serve the fast growing security industry requirements with specialization and expertise.

Cloud Based Wireless Camera are Beneficial or Not, Do You Want to Know?

disadvantages of wireless cameras with the cloud monitoring facility.

THE ADVANTAGES:

1. Complete assurance with safe storage on the cloud, costsavings, andbetterorganization.

Wireless cameras using cloud storage for images and recordings are regarded as safe and secure from any kind of tampering, data theft, and other common hacks.

Furthermore, these cameras, as compared to storage devices like a hard disc or a pen drive, offer:

• Better data access

• More organized storage

• Quicker search ability

• Greater storage space

Ever since the internet made its way into our lives, things have not remained the same. From computers to mobile phones, the internet has made it easier to manage day-to-day life. Most importantly, the internet has revolutionized the surveillance systems that have become wireless camera with cloud storage and monitoring facilities.

A cloud-based wireless camera enables you to keep an eye on your home or business premises, be it indoor or outdoor. These cameras are now considered an essential part of a home or commercial setup. It won't be an overstatement that wireless security cameras are similar to insurance as they act as your security guard during the day and at night, ensuring complete peace of mind.

Cloud-based wireless cameras are ideal for installation in examination halls, government elections, unmanned traffic signals, and public places like malls, markets, streets, etc.

Now let us look at some of the advantages and

What's more, wireless cameras with cloud storage and monitoring enable home or business owners to save on costs incurred on space and physical storage of data.

Presently, more & more people prefer wireless cameras for the security of their business setups with dedicated cloud storage for more secure backup of the data captured by the surveillance systems.

2. Easier to configure on mobile phone and integrate with multiple devices for ready access.

Wireless cameras are easier to configure on mobile phone apps that act as a centralized server. Simply link the wireless camera to your wireless network and configure it with the mobile application.

The user can also integrate the wireless camera with several other internet-powered devices like computers, tablets, or laptops for ready access to the monitored locations.

3. Access your location from anywhere, anytime from your mobile phone.

Cloud-connected wireless cameras enable its users to watch live footage of their homes or business setup from

anywhere in the world 24×7 right on their internet connected device.

Cloud-connected cameras also act as a reliable security partner for those who have their properties or businesses in more than one location. It allows them to be virtually present at their home or office while sitting miles away

4. Great battery backup, ensuring smooth functioning even during power outages.

Contrary to the old belief that Wi-Fi cameras are susceptible to power outages, the modern day wireless cameras have excellent battery backup that allows them to function smoothly even during power cuts.

5. Easier to install or relocate without requiring expert guidance.

As the name suggests, wireless cameras are free from wires, preventing drilling and nailing the premises for wiring. It gives the users a choice to relocate the wireless camera to any location anytime according to the need.

This makes them ideal for small shop owners or homeowners who may want to keep an eye on house help during the day and may require tracking the main gate or parking during the night.

“Considering the numerous advantages that wireless cameras with cloud storage and monitoring offer, the disadvantages are negligible. However, we would like to mention a few to educate you and help you make an informeddecisionforyoursafetyandsecurity.”

THE DISADVANTAGES:

1. Internet data pricing can make the operational cost of cloud-based cameras expensive for some people.

Although there are hardly any concerns left over the data usage, considering the falling price of internet connectivity by the day. Still, business owners feel that wireless cameras continuously use the internet for transmitting data to the cloud, which increases their spending on internet bills and affects the data speed.

However, getting the cloud based wireless camera system installed by a professional company with the right tools and knowledge can create a difference without overloading or creating network issues.

2. Areas with limited or low internet connectivity may find it challenging to operate cloud-based cameras.

Some businesses do not have proper network infrastructure, and so cloud-connected wireless cameras may slow down the internet connectivity at such establishments.

Cloud-connected wireless cameras may not function that efficiently for houses or shops in rural locations with not so-advanced internet connectivity. Moreover, the cloud camera maintains its connectivity with the wireless router, so installing it farther can create connectivity issues.

3. Meeting the compliance standards of the industry for safeguarding sensitive information. Having discussed several benefits that cloud security cameras offer, they are a reason for worry for compliance regulations in many cases. For many businesses, conforming to the industry's compliance standards is not possible for cloud based cameras without expert intervention.

Since wireless cameras work through the internet, there is a greater risk of data being hacked by cyber thieves. Cloud surveillance camera setup needs advanced safety measures to be followed as compared to conventional security cameras.

Compliance is a concern for business establishments that handle sensitive data like customer payments or health records. And so, cloud surveillance cameras need regular assessment for any legal implications and cyber threats.

The Future of Smart Homes: Thread and How It's Changing the Game

The Future of Smart Homes: Thread

What would a smart home look like in the future? The term ‘smart’ is thrown around so often that it’s lost its meaning. Smart homes are supposed to make our lives easier, but the systems and devices we have today aren’t quite there yet. In this blog post, we take a look at what the future of smart homes might look like and how Thread protocol is changing the game by creating a universal language for connected devices.

 What is a Smart Home?

A smart home is a home that uses connectivity to provide convenience and automation for its inhabitants A smart home may use internet-connected devices to control the environment, enableremotemonitoring, and access information. Smart homes may include a variety of devices that enable remote management and monitoring of the home, such as thermostats, lighting, appliances, door locks, and security systems Smart homes also enable an increased level of comfort and convenience by allowing people to remotely control their home environment via an app or voice control. Smart homes may also be able to collect data and generate insights based on patterns in the way people live in theirhomes.

 How Will A Smart Home in the Future be Different?

The future of smart homes will be a connected experience where you can control everything in your home with just a few taps on your smartphone or voice commands using a voice assistant of your liking In the future, you will no longer be tied down to a single room You will be able to control all your appliances from your smart displays (read watches, phones, laptops, Televisions) or voice assistants nomatterwhere you are in the world.

The devices and services that are available today are a few steps away from achieving this connected lifestyle. One of the biggest challenges facing the smart home industry is interoperability A huge percentage of

devices today only work with their own ecosystems. This creates an environment where a single device cannot communicate with other devices in the same home. Imagine being able to create a single user experience for managing all your devices and services in your home.ThisiswhattheThreadprotocolandMatteraretryingtoachieve.

If you're into the smart home, then you've probably heard of Thread. But what is it? And why is it such a big deal for the connected home? Let's break it down.

 Thread and the Future of the Smart Home

Thread is a new low-power, mesh networking protocol that is designed for connecting devices in the home. It is an alternative to Wi Fi and it has the potential to make your smart home even smarter. It is designed to run on low-cost, low-energy IoT devices. The core objective of Thread is to build a secure and interoperable protocol for the Internet of Things thatsimplifies device andservice development.

Thread is a global open standards initiative led by the Internet of Things Consortium. The Thread protocol was built with a vision to create a smart environment that provides a uniform experience for devices and services. It aims to become the universal language across all connected devices and services in the home. The future of smart homes will not have isolated ecosystems running on a single device. It will be an open, interoperable environment where devices can communicate with each other and be controlled through one single application of the user's choice.

Thread connects and communicates with other devices in a mesh topology but unlike them, Thread doesn't require a hub to communicate with the IP-based controller devices.

From phones to routers, to connections across the globe, IP is how devices communicate directly regardless of the connectivity technologies they use(i.e. Ethernet, Wi Fi, 4G and LTE). Thread devices seamlessly integrate with larger IP networks and don’t need proprietary gateways or translators. This reduces infrastructure investment and complexity, removes potential points of failure and reduces maintenance burdens. Thread also securely connects devices to the cloud, making it easier to control IoT products and systems from personal or administrative devices such as mobile phones andtablets.

 Thread-Enabled Devices and Services in the Future of Homes

From a consumer perspective, buying a new IoT gadget only to find out that it doesn’t work with the existing system can be painful and discouraging To avoid that and in turn, significantly improve the IoT consumer experience the industry has been seeking a unified IoT platform. Additionally, there is a common consensus across IoT developers and vendors that IoT platforms’ unification will simplify the

Never drop the ball on in-store customer experience: How smart video can help?

With a huge array of online and in-store shopping options available, stores need to deliver great customer experiences to stay ahead. To do that, they need to take advantage of key technologies - such as smart video - which provides a real-time view of customer needs in store and supports faster, more responsive service, says Andrew Martin, Retail & Logistics Lead at Hikvision UK and Ireland.

Massive growth in online retail has led to the commoditization of all kinds of products, from furniture and phones to groceries and printer paper. In many cases, the last bastion for differentiation is customer service - whether customers buy online or in store.

But although great customer experiences are absolutely central to success in today's markets, delivering them remains a major challenge for retailers for a number of reasons.

First, many supermarkets are moving towards semi-unattended or totally unattended environments, which makes it harder than ever to provide the personal, face-to-face service experiences many customers still want.

Additionally, fewer staff in all kinds of retail stores means it's increasingly difficult to balance customer care and day to day tasks such as admin, inventory, and shelf filling.

In this environment of stiff competition, increasing online and hybrid shopping options, and changing retail staffing models, technology solutions can greatly enhance a store's ability to deliver great customer service. In particular, the latest generation of AI-enabled smart video solutions provide new ways to enhance customer experiences, without the high costs and complexity of manual processes.

Five ways smart video gives you the edge on customer service Smart video is able to boost customer experiences and deliver new competitive advantage for retailers in five important ways:

SOLUTION ARTICLE November 2022 - www.visionmediahitech.com 30

• Understand and meet customers' needs in store, in real time

Smart video makes this possible by providing 'real-time awareness' of customers' journeys through the store. For example, smart cameras can be used to count customers entering and leaving the store, ensuring that enough staff are available to serve them. Staff can also be diverted to the checkout when queues get too long and return to routine shelf-filling and other tasks during non-peak times when fewer customers are in the store.

• Ensure that the right products are available - when and where customers want

them

For customers, having access to the right product in the right place at the right time is the cornerstone of a great experience. Smart video can help by registering the availability (or otherwise) of goods on shelves, and by triggering alarms to ensure products are restocked and always available.

Additionally, video data analytics provide new insights into which products are the most popular, helping stores to place them in 'hotspots' where customers can find them quickly and easily. This ensures that the shopping experience is as quick, efficient, and satisfying as possible.

• Deliver great service in unattended retail environments

As an increasing number of retailers roll out unattended stores (or stores with very few staff), smart video is taking a leading role. It's possible, for example, to identify customers who are struggling at the selfservice checkout, and to send a member of staff to assist them.

Additionally, smart video offers multiple, high-value security applications for unattended environments, from traditional video security to AI algorithms that detect shoplifting. These capabilities ensure that customers feel safe, while also helping to minimize shrinkage from the inventory.

• Provide pleasant, multi-channel shopping experiences

Smart video can help retailers provide far better multi channel shopping experiences in store based on an in depth understanding of customer journeys. For example, analysis of video data can ensure that kiosks for online ordering and product pickups are located in the right areas of the store to minimize congestion and speed up service. Likewise, smart video solutions at the distribution center can ensure that customer orders are picked and packed correctly, as well as ensuring that customer queries and disputes are answered faster

• Keep stores safe and clean for customers

With smart video, store managers and maintenance teams can get alerts in real time to ensure the store is always safe and clean. In particular, AI-powered cameras can detect liquid spills or obstacles in the aisles automatically, allowing staff to react more quickly to ensure that these issues never compromise the customer experience.

Why partner with Hikvision on in-store customer experience

Many leading brand retailers are partnering with Hikvision to enhance their in-store experiences with help from our smart video solutions and our ecosystem of retail technology partners. Our solutions not only give managers a real-time view of how many customers are in the store, and the ideal staffing levels to look after them. Hikvision smart video can also ensure that products are always available when and where customers want them - and that multi-channel customer journeys are optimized.

Access Control Commissioning Checklist All customers are not knowledgeable to understand Access Control System. When we are getting order it's our responsibility to commissioned in proper way. In India maximum system integrator do not follow their own check list and as a result after few month call logging is started. Some call forward to OEM and System Integrator with customer's blame on products are not good. But no one drilldown about commissioning report. Ultimately system integrator don't know commissioning also a part of BOQ, yes they put importance only installation. I hope this checklist helps end users, integrators and consultants verify that access control installation and commissioning is complete. Take print edit as per your projects and fill all point. Indians' principle concern for their family while being away from home is evenly distributed between protection from illness and injury (for 51% respondents) and prevention of break-in or theft (49% respondents)

While pacing up with the hurdles of life to earn a better living for their children, parents often cannot help themselves being worry-free about their little ones at home. With people moving to metro cities for jobs, once they bear children, they often reach out to their own parents for support in raising their children. Over the course of the pandemic, there is change in this trend. While older parents remain the most popular choice for people for staying connected with their children when they are out, people are also learning to depend on other aids such as technology and their neighbour

In this context, Godrej Security Solutions, a division of Godrej & Boyce, the flagship company of the Godrej Group, has published 'Children's Day' edition of a study titled "Decoding Safe and Sound: in the Indian Context" in light of the widening gap between home security awareness and implementation. Peoples' dependence on tech gadgets helping them stay connected with their loved ones when they are away from home has nearly doubled from last year with 9% in 2021 to 17% in 2022. The study reveals that 'Safe and Sound' to Indians are based on three key contexts: Health wellbeing, property security and technology safety.

This year, Indians' principle concern for their children or parents when they are away from home is evenly

distributed with 51% respondents citing 'illness and injury' and 49% respondents citing prevention of break-in or theft as their biggest worry Whereas, last year responses were highly dominated by health concerns with 81% respondents citing it as their principle concern, largely due to the wide spread of covid-19. These findings indicate that India's home safety concerns are rebalancing between property and health post Covid-19.

Mr. Pushkar Gokhale, Business Head at Godrej Security Solutions said, “Looking after a family and balancing it with the demands of an ultraurban living can be a daunting task. It becomes heartbreakingly difficult to leave a toddler in the care of a family member, or a nanny and go to work This means worrying constantly about their safety, and wondering if they are being well looked after.

Similarly, people tend to worry about their property and possessions while being away from home. In short, the pandemic has made people realise the increased need for home surveillance not only to protect property but to watch over their loved ones from anywhere at any time. What we have gathered from the study is that compared to last year, people are learning to depend less on their house help and more on technology and security solutions, their neighbours for staying connected with their children

70% Indians admit to feel mentally at peace with a security product enabling them to see their child at home while they were away at work reveals Godrej Security Solutions study ahead of Children's Day
“Children's Day” research from Security Solutions confirms that Indians learning to depend on technology and neighbours for staying connected with their children while being away from home

when they are out. On the occasion of the upcoming Children's Day, we intend to spread awareness of opting right practices and equipment's to ensure safety and security of children. The major goal of this study was to highlight the importance of security, educate individuals about available options, and demonstrate how home security systems may result in a routine that is safer, more convenient, and flexible.”

For staying connected with their children when people are away from home, the survey further revealed that, only 38% of the respondents depend on their own parents compared to 49% respondents last year Whereas, only 15% of the respondents depend on their house help compared to 26% respondents last year. The survey also indicated more reliability on neighbours this year while being away from home, with 17% respondents depending on their neighbours, compared toonly 9% respondents lastyear

This study was commissioned by Godrej Security Solutions and was conducted in 7 Indian cities. The study's key finding was that there is a critical need for phygital solutions. With people being away for work and their children at home, home cameras are a non-

intrusive way of staying connected to them. The market for home cameras in India is estimated to be worth Rs. 300 Cr and Godrej Security Solutions plans to capture 15% of this market by 2022. To make home security more accessible, the brand has also tied-up with 2000 local retailers and channel partners across major cities and markets.

About Godrej Security Solutions 'Decoding Safe and Sound: in the Indian Context' Study Methodology

The above findings are based on research fieldwork conducted by Innovative Research Services (India) Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai, through face to face and telephonic interviews with 2,138 respondents in 7 cities. These 7 cities include Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Kolkata and Pune. Respondents were a representative sample of people from the above cities aged between 18-54 years; respondents represented a wide range of business and professional sectors.

How does a Strong CCTV Security System help to Protect Smart Cities?

We are at the dawn of smart cities and in this post, we are going to explore what they are and how security cameras lie at the heart of the development and a strong CCTV Security System for smart city surveillance .

The ultimate testimony to humankind's growth lies in its collective evolution. From being hunter gatherers, we've reached so far in our evolutionary history thanks to our collective endurance, adaptation to newer environments and adoption of survival strategies.

Right now, we are at one of the most interesting phases in human evolution because we are stepping into a new era called the information age Considering the fact that the tools we've deployed have always been our corresponding age, the primary tool taking us to the doorsteps of the next lap of evolution is information and its allied offspring.

Today, we have automated most of our tasks. What started in the industrial revolution has taken many forms and shapes and has contributed to our elevated lifestyle and experiences From what we call regular cities or towns, we are developing advanced environments and living spaces with machines and computer intelligence at the fulcrum We are learning to harness the potential of machines to our advantage and make them take charge of redundant and some of the crucial aspects andprocesses ofourlives.

Let's get started.

What Are CCTV Security Smart Cities?

Smart cities are anything but conventional They are ambitious and futuristic in equal parts. If you've been believing smart cities exist only on papers as concepts, understand that smart cities are in their development stages as you read.

In simple terms, smart cities are more immersive and lively counterparts of their predecessors. They are powered by IoT, cellular, WiFi and edge computing devices and peripherals that together work to foster an environment that features automation, sophisticated lifestyles, advanced analytics and computing and more.

Almost every single touchpoint in the form of equipment, devices, networks, operational systems and more is fitted with sensors and embedded systems so the devices can process data and share visualized information to users in the form of insights for optimization.

From complex infrastructures such as power grids and water utility systems to those as simple as home automation systems and traffic management modules, every single aspect in a smart city is tech-driven for sophisticated operations For instance, utility units installed in houses would be automated to autonomously share energy consumption details of individuals and their corresponding prices Currently, there is no way an individual could know how much energy they have consumed individually through breakdown of consumption levels by the devices orequipmenttheyown athome.

52 November 2022 - www.visionmediahitech.com

With smart power systems, however, they could know how much energy their television or computer has consumed on a daily basis, how much they could have saved with moderated usage, where they stand with respect to the energy consumption levels in their neighborhood and more. Such precise details about usage empowers individuals to take responsibility for their consumption and take adequate steps to minimize it. A similar implementation or approach is applied to all other aspects of lifestyle.

Where do Surveillance Cameras Fit in a Smart City?

Smart cities are defined by their abilities to make realtime decisions. Unlike conventional practices, where decisions on anything take a couple of days, machines are vested with the power to make instant and autonomous decisions on a variety of things. To do this, they need to be able to see and view things for precision processing of data.

This is exactly where surveillance systems come into the picture. A CCTV security camera arrives as the vision of a smart city environment, offering systems the right information in real time to trigger responses and measures. Modern surveillance systems are passive in the fact that they can only offer information on what has already happened for investigative purposes.

However, equip them with sensors and edge devices and you will have solutions that can perform advanced tasks like video analytics, prescriptive maintenance, predicting outcomes, threat mitigation and more.

If this sounds too complex for comprehension, here's a detailed breakdown of how security cameras would help in optimizing the safety and functionality of smart cities.

How CCTV Security Systems Help Protect Smart Cities

Video surveillance systems powered by technologies like artificial intelligence, facial recognition, machine learning and more could be used by law enforcement agencies to fight crimes in a myriad of ways.

Optimize Safety and Security

By implementing intensive surveillance units in crucial public places, these CCTV camera could be used to detect fugitives, crime suspects, drug and human traffickers and other antisocial elements and send out notifications or alarms to law enforcement officers in vicinity to stay alert. A real world example is the way Detroit managed to reduce its crime rate by 50% thanks to smart cameras and surveillance systems

They can also be used to track stolen vehicles in real

time and help police officers to hunt them down seamlessly. Besides these, they can also be used to strengthen disaster recovery measures through automatic assessment of water-logged areas, predict earthquakes and have incident responses ready.

Stringent Law Enforcement

A city can become safer and more inhabitable when people who break laws are punished immediately In smart cities, this becomes simple as surveillance cameras could instantly penalize law breakers. From vehicles that skip traffic signals or pickpockets in action in crowded places, dynamic CCTV cameras with sensors and analytics software can help alert police officers to respond to such instances or automatically penalize individuals by tracking down their social security numbers. China already has a surveillance system that shames people in real time for breaking pedestrian laws.

Faster Claims Processing

A smart city involves evolution in all aspects. Similar to how airplanes have black boxes, vehicles would feature smart cameras that perpetually record events In case of accidents, the footage from these cameras would be used as evidence for faster and automatic processing of insurance claims. This eliminates the time spent by individuals to apply for their insurance claims and skip all the necessary paperwork.

Pandemic Management

This wouldn't have been an aspect we would be discussing if we hadn't witnessed the devastating effects of Covid-19. Due to the outbreak of the global pandemic, we could leverage the potential of smart surveillance systems to tackle the spread of contagious diseases as well.

With advanced CCTV camera units, we could detect people without masks and penalize them instantly. We could also equip thermal scanners and instantly isolate individuals with symptoms of fever and cold. Massive implementations of this in public areas like airports, malls, places of interests and more could help mitigate the spread of viral diseases. With proper data analytics, we could also track down if individuals are vaccinated or not.

Wrapping Up

Apart from these, the role of a CCTV security camera in a smart city environment could be used to optimize safety in school and college premises, have customized use cases in hospitals and healthcare centers and more.

The potential of smart surveillance systems is limitless and is restricted by our collective creativity and intelligence to use them for diverse purposes. If you have a unique perspective or implementation in mind, you should get in touch with us to fetch an ideal security solution for your idea and help protect your premises.

Web-Connected Appliances - You might have a few smart appliances in your home, such as a washer, dryer or refrigerator, but you may still have to manually check their status online. In the future, these devices will be able to send you alerts when they require maintenance or have new information.

Health and Wellbeing - The idea of a smart home often includes a healthier lifestyle. There are a variety of devices that can help you achieve this, such as fitness trackers, blood pressure monitors, and glucose monitors. In the future, these devices will be able to communicate with each other, allowing you to get a holistic view of your health and wellbeing

 The

conform to an accepted rule or convention. In the context of smart homes, standardization means that devices and services are built following a universal rule. This makes them interoperable and allows them to work together The current state of the smart home industry is a fragmented landscape of isolated ecosystems that are not capable of communicating with each other. Achieving true interoperability will require a common language that all devices follow This is where Thread comes in.

Where is Thread Going?

The Thread protocol was developed in collaboration with industry stakeholders to solve the growing pains of the IoT industry. It was created to equip the industry with a technology solution that will enable the Internet of Things by providing a foundation for interoperability and security The protocol is currently being standardized through an open process which enables the creation of a secure, reliable, and low cost network for connected products. The Thread protocol is being designed to operate in both licensed and unlicensed radio bands, leveraging best-in-class solutions to achieve scalability, efficiency, and a high-quality user experience across different use cases.

The organization is currently focused on the development and implementation of the protocol, and engaging with various stakeholders to drive the adoption of the standard.

While there are plenty of use cases and success stories using Thread, it’s still early in its market adoption process. However, Thread is a future-proof technology, so developers adopting it right now should feel safe.

As IoT developers, we ought to keep in mind that we should meet consumer values first while developing cool and awesome technology Thread brings IP to IoT networks, which simplifies development and improves user experience. Thread also enables unprecedented security and convergence in low-power device networks. Thread’s open source implementation OpenThread utilizes community support to guarantee a hassle-free developer experience.

IP has been gluing the Internet together for decades, and it is about time to enable IoT networks with IP to unlock new horizons of scalability and security. With its base in IP, OpenThread can run mature and tested applications.

 Conclusion

Importance of Standardization in the

Future

of

Homes Standardization is the process of making something

The future of smart homes is a connected environment where all devices and services can communicate with each other and provide a unified experience. To achieve this, the industry will need to come together and agree on a single language for all devices. The Thread protocol is a promising open standards initiative that was created to equip the industry with a technology solution that will enable the Internet of Things by providing a foundation for interoperability and security The next few years will be critical for the industry as we look toward the future of connected devices and services.
