Sheringham activity week set to return

This year ’s mission will take place from Tuesday 30 August to Friday 2 September, during the last week of the school holidays, and immediately after the late summer bank holiday All ages are catered for, from toddlers to late teens, with the morning “going deeper” sessions split into four age groups.

The planning team are expecting at least 200 young people, predominantly from Sheringham, to attend at least one of these activities, and the afternoon and evening events will enable families to be involved.

Activities will include: beach sports, drama, music, creative bible teaching, crafts, gunge tank, competitions, picnic, tide fight, treasure trail, beach sculptures, swimming (at a pool), circus skills, putting, chips, etc

Peter Skivington, planning group leader, said “It is rewarding to see children come back year after year, and those relationships are further developed by the work the churches do in schools and in children’s and youth clubs throughout the year, investing into the lives of many Sheringham children and youth Some of those that originally attended BeachLife as young people are now helping with the running of the event

The pictures show some of the team with a publicity banner at a recent training morning, and a beach activity from a previous year

On 5 July we enjoyed our usual excellent lunch at the Links Hotel in West Runton and then Chris Bell (who may be familiar from his TV appearances as a weather forecaster on Look East) spoke to us about meteorology. Chris is one of the directors of Weatherquest (a private weather forecasting company) and he also lectures in meteorology at the UEA It was fascinating to learn of the many areas of life where detailed, localised weather forecasts are needed, e.g. in agriculture (e.g. should a farmer avoid spraying his crops on the following day?), renewable energy (will it be too windy for maintenance crews to work safely on the turbines?), ports (will the sea swell be too high or choppy for certain ships to enter industrial dock areas?) and so on There are many steps to be taken before a weather forecast is issued, e g: observations of the atmosphere, temperatures, wind, rainfall, visibility, air pressure, clouds, sunshine and solar radiation Formerly these details were all plotted on charts but now this is all done on computers Satellites are also used, to measure winds at different levels in the atmosphere, and also to measure sand or salt content in the air

Interestingly, Chris referred to the ‘weather event’ in 1987 when the TV weather forecaster Michael Fish said that there would not be a hurricane the next day Apparently, Michael Fish was correct he had been talking about something coming across the North Atlantic and which was not, technically speaking, a hurricane This was an extremely informative and well illustrated talk and Chris was thanked by the chairman and all present On 6th September, Paul Hensby and Mike Goldwater will talk to us about Poppyland Radio More on these subjects in future reports! If you would like to know more about the club, including other meetings in the future, please visit our website www candsprobus club or contact our Lunch Secretary Dave Vickery on 01263 824306

Jack’s cross was more obvious than Pixie’s due to her colour We talk about, ‘Having our cross to bear ’ and we are pleased that offering a day service enables carers to have a little respite from the daily care of their loved ones which we know places additional responsibilities and pressures on their lives We still have places available if you would like to consider coming for a half or whole day, or several days per week and as you can see, we have a lot of interesting activities going on in the centre In addition to the day centre, we deliver hot two course meals Tuesday to Friday to people living at home, covering Cromer to Holt for £5 The meals are cooked in the centre and delivered by our volunteer drivers. We are looking for additional drivers so please contact Alison on 01263 821188 if you are interested in helping in this way

After not being able to hold our annual Flower Festival, at St Andrew s Methodist Church, Sheringham, for the last three summers, we are pleased to say that we are going to hold a Harvest Flower Festival this year from Saturday 1st Sunday 2nd October

On 25 August, the famous Wherry Albion will be open for all Museum visitors to board and chat to volunteers. Plenty to see and do and you can always relax afterwards with a picnic or an ice cream by the river!

The meeting coincided with the start of the railway’s peak summer season which sees at least nine return trips every day operating along 5½ miles of restored track from Sheringham to Weybourne and Holt Almost all the tasks necessary to run the trains being carried out by a team of around 300 dedicated volunteers Full details can be found at www.nnrailway.co.uk.

North Norfolk Railway Announces Strong 2021/2 Financial Results

Chairman, Steve Allen, told the meeting that 2021 had been a challenging year with lockdowns forcing the line to close until mid April meaning that key trading periods such as February half term and the Easter holidays were lost

www rosevillapublications co uk Sheringham Independent August 92022

Mr Allen said that recent accolades had shown the input of the line’s volunteers is recognised and valued beyond the railway and congratulated the volunteer team on receiving the Queens Award for Voluntary Service which was announced at the Platinum Jubilee weekend in June He also revealed the railway had recently been assessed by Visit England and accredited as a quality assured visitor attraction, with the assessor ’s report highlighting the excellent staff and volunteers with a score of 98% in that section.

He paid tribute to the line’s volunteers and staff who, when operations were able to resume, had rallied round to ensure the lines steam and heritage diesel services ran and also helped reintroduce a limited programme of special events

In his address to shareholders, Managing Director, Hugh Harkett, said that after a difficult start 2021 had been outstanding The Culture Recovery Fund grant from the DCMS kept the business afloat during lockdown and then the strategy of survive recover sustain had been implemented with the first two parts being achieved during the year Since year end

Shareholders attending the North Norfolk Railway PLC’s AGM on Saturday 16 July heard that the popular heritage railway had returned to profit in the year ending 31 January 2022 achieving a surplus of £195,062 for the full year a welcome turnaround after the pandemic induced loss of £148,120 the previous year

good progress has been made on sustaining the railway with healthy passenger numbers for the first part of the 2022 season Mr Harkett stressed that generating cash surpluses is vital to allow the railway to invest in repairs and renewals track work to replaces points at Weybourne is likely to cost £250,000 this winter and it is important to build up reserves to cover locomotive and carriage overhauls. He also indicated that the line was reaching a position to look at future improvements such as reinstating the buildings on Platform 2 at Sheringham but that to afford that, it would be necessary to launch an appeal probably later this year

Conditional gifts are often referred to as ‘contingent gifts’ as they rely on the occurrence of the specified contingency. Conditions may not be met

Making gifts conditional on speculative assumptions, such as making a gift conditional on a grandchild attending university can be risky, as it might be less probable that your grandchild will go to university rather than them simply living until they are 25 Trusts

A conditional gift may also be in the form of a trust It is common for couples who have children from previous relationships to include in their wills a life interest trust for each other. Typically, the ultimate aim is for the money, or assets, to pass to their own children after their partner has died. The children, therefore, are the recipients of a gift which is conditional upon the death of the partner

A gift which is conditional on a beneficiary’s divorce, if the relationship is already rocky, ensures that your assets do not end up in the hands of a loved one’s ex spouse How can we help? Many gifts made in a will simply allow the recipient of the gift to receive their money, or other assets, outright once you have died A conditional gift is one which the recipient will only receive if a certain condition is met. The condition might be contingent on the death of a beneficiary For example, if money is left to a son, daughter, or sibling, you may want to make sure that it passes to their children if they were to die Alternatively, the condition could be something which is not guaranteed You might want to leave money to a grandchild, but only if they obtain a certain qualification or attend university. You may want to leave them a car on condition that they pass their driving test. Some people leave a sum of money to a friend on condition they care for a pet Or a payment might be made to an executor as a ‘thank you’ for administering an estate

What methods of PRP application do you offer in the clinic? We offer PRP either as a standalone treatment or in combination with some other treatments such as laser resurfacing or low level laser therapy and some medication in case of hair restoration What is vampire facelift or Dracula therapy? PRP has been given various names such as these because your own blood is used for regeneration process. Whilst PRP can help in facial rejuvenation we do not endorse the term facelift, as this is misleading

We have been using it for last many years when patients asked for it but remained sceptical about claims being made Our patients who had the treatment however reported great satisfaction with it and we are excited about the recent studies that show noticeable results in treatment of hair loss Many published studies show that patient’s experienced substantial reduction in hair loss, rate of hair loss, improved hair thickness, ease of managing/styling hair, and their hair felt coarser or heavier after the treatment.

What it does not do? If you are after a quick fix for example filling out lines and wrinkles PRP does not do that instantly It improves your skin quality and collagen slowly over time It also works on acne scars but treatments take time to show results. So this is not a quick fix. It can help thinning hair but will not grow hair on totally bald scalp either

If you are a fan of totally natural methods of treatment and not keen on botox, fillers or lasers etc. then there is a solution to provide results using your own tissue Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is a solution derived from whole blood that is enriched in the platelet fraction Historically, PRP has been applied to wound beds to promote healing of complex wounds Over the last decade, it has served as a valuable therapeutic tool in various specialties such as maxillofacial surgery, plastic surgery, orthopaedics and sports medicine In recent years it has been use increasingly in addressing aesthetic medical concerns

How is PRP treatment carried out? Your own blood is taken mixed with an anticoagulant solution and spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelets from the rest of the blood These platelets are rich source of a variety of growth factors, which then stimulate your own collagen or hair follicles to grow based on what is trying to be achieved

Redwings is proud to announce the charity has taken on Anna Sewell House the birthplace of the Black Beauty author in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk

House

Anna Sewell’s House Redwings’ Black Beauty Maya

Redwings Takes on World Famous

The building is owned by a Redwings supporter and horse owner who approached Redwings about occupying the property The biggest horse sanctuary in the UK was founded in the county and continues to have its headquarters in Hapton, south of Norwich Gemma Walpole, Executive Director for Income and Engagement at Redwings, said: “It’s so important to the owner that the property be used in a way that’s a fitting legacy to Anna and her work to improve horse welfare, so it makes perfect sense for it to be a showcase for the work Redwings does today “Black Beauty is one of the most successful novels of all time with over 50 million copies sold worldwide and was one of the first to use an animal as a narrator Anna didn’t write the novel for children She said that her purpose was to ‘induce kindness, sympathy, and an understanding treatment of horses’ “Decades ago, the current owner ’s mother, herself an advocate for animal welfare, convinced her husband to buy the house to protect it, when a fan of Anna Sewell had proposed to dismantle it and relocate it to the US She preserved the Grade 2 listed building, which has become a place of pilgrimage for fans of Anna and her novel “We could not be more honoured to be able to look after this important building and use it to showcase Anna’s story and share how our work addresses the horse welfare challenges of today ” Black Beauty was the only book that Anna Sewell published She died shortly after the novel was released in 1877, and never witnessed its enormous success or the influence it had on changes to horse welfare in Victorian Britain.

Over 100 years later, in 1984, Redwings Horse Sanctuary was established and is currently responsible for over 2,000 rescued horses, ponies, donkeys and mules across the UK, including 700 living out on permanent loan in Guardian homes Redwings will be holding an official opening on Friday 26th August and Anna Sewell House will be open to the public on days to be confirmed It will be staffed by Redwings employees and volunteers. Italian Summer Tart 1 pack ready rolled puff pastry 1 onion, finely chopped 1 garlic clove, finely chopped A few sundried tomatoes from a jar, plus a little of the oil Flat tsp dried oregano 1 tin chopped tomatoes 2 tsp red or green pesto Tblsp tomato puree A small handful of black olives, sliced in half 1 ball mozzarella cheese, sliced Fresh basil leaves Start with the tomato sauce: gently fry the onion and garlic in a little of the oil for about 5 minutes until becoming soft and then add the herbs and sundried tomatoes Heat through and add the tinned tomatoes and pesto and thicken with the puree Simmer for about 10 minutes and then check seasoning. Whizz up with a hand blender until smooth and set aside Preheat the oven to 200° Unroll the pastry but leave on the wrapper that it came in, and place onto a flat baking sheet Measure in about an inch from the edge and score all the way around, not cutting through to the bottom but just marking it this will be your edge and all the filling will be in the middle. Spoon on some tomato sauce and spread around the tart, not going over the scored area (tip: don’t use too much as you will end up with a soggy tart) Scatter over the olives and the mozzarella and place in the oven for around 30 minutes, or until the edges are starting to brown and have puffed up, and the filling is bubbling and hot Scatter over the fresh basil or some rocket and serve immediately with a fresh summer salad

You will need 2 baking trays lined with baking paper and a 6cm round cutter Preheat the oven to 180C/Gas 4 Cream the butter, vanilla and sugar together in a large bowl (use a mixer if you have one but you can use a wooden spoon and lots of elbow grease) until light and fluffy, mix in the egg and chocolate chips if using, sift in the flour and mix to a dough (on slow speed if using a mixer or bring together with your hands) Split the dough in two and flatten into 2 discs, wrap the dough in clingfilm and chill in the fridge for at least 30mins.

When chilled, roll each disc out to about 3mm thickness and cut out discs and place on the baking sheets about 2 3cm apart Bake in the oven for 9 10 mins or until golden brown Allow to cool on the baking trays for 5 10 mins then lift the biscuits onto a cooling rack carefully and leave to go cold

Never underestimate the genius and versatility of ready made puff pastry; not only is it incredibly economical to buy (Lidl version is only 85p!) but it also keeps well in the fridge, and you can make so many delicious and quick dishes from it in no time at all I do prefer to make my own pastry when I have the time, but puff pastry is a bit of a rat race to make, and this ready made does taste delicious in the summer, there are just so many other things to be doing! I have shared this recipe as it is such a good looking dish to take along to barbeques, friends suppers, or just to serve the family, but it won’t break the bank This is the basic simple recipe, but feel free to switch it up and scatter over any toppings you like, such as salami, roasted veg or garlic mushrooms. I use the ready rolled pastry for extra convenience, which comes wrapped in its own grease proof paper, so you can just unroll it and leave it in there on your baking tray, what could be easier? The recipe doesn’t use all the tomato sauce, so you can stir that through some pasta another day bonus!

All there is to do now is select your choice of ice cream, take 2 biscuits, place a dollop of ice cream on one biscuit, sandwich together with another and enjoy! Jo editor

Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) EPCs are required by all commercial property owners who rent out or sell their property, unless an exemption applied, and they must be renewed every 10 years There have been significant changes to EPC regulations of late.

The responsibility of Health and Safety in a commercial property and the workplace is likely to fall upon the tenant as an employer, but landlords should be aware that they will be responsible for healthy and safety in any communal areas that can be accessed by more than one tenant A guide for workplace health and safety can be accessed on the Gov uk website which summarises those responsibilities in full Responsibilities include but are not limited to providing safe equipment, toilet facilities, space, ventilation, light and drinking water

• As of 1 April 2030, the minimum efficient rating of the property is raised to B If you fail to make a valid EPC available to a prospective buyer or tenant, you may face enforcement action and be fined between £500.00 and £5,000.00. Health & Safety

The responsibility of fire safety regulations falls with the 'Responsible Person' who is in control of the premises The terms of the lease must stipulate who is responsible for complying with statutory requirements and you should be familiar with those requirements It may also be that the landlord and tenant have overlapping responsibilities

The responsibilities vary depending on the size of the premises, but can include:

Asbestos

If the property has asbestos and you do not have a plan for its safe management, you may be subject to enforcement action, an unlimited fine and imprisonment of up to 2 years This article is not intended to be an extensive guide to all statutory requirements that should be considered by landlords and tenants but a snapshot of some of the considerations that must be made We urge landlords and tenants to consult government guidance and familiarise with the regulations imposed upon commercial properties. Whether you are a proposed or existing landlord or tenant of a commercial property, please contact us on 01263 823398 or email enquiries@clapham collinge.co.uk for advice on your responsibilities *This article is provided for general information purposes only and does not constitute legal advice or other professional advice o er a full range of individuals in North Norfolk. There are numerous statutory requirements that apply to the ownership and occupation of commercial properties Given the recent changes to regulations on the energy efficiency of commercial properties we have produced a summary of the key regulations and who is responsible for them.

imprisonment

The regulations state that you must take steps to find out if there is asbestos at the property and it is recommended an accredited surveyor is instructed to the inspection for safety reasons If asbestos is located, it does not necessarily need to be removed unless the surveyor advises you to do so, but you must form and follow a system for safely managing the asbestos

The current regulations prevent a landlord from granting a new tenancy where the EPC has a rating lower than E The changes to the regulations to be aware of are as follows:

The responsibility of the control of asbestos within a commercial property falls with the 'Duty Holder' which is the person required to maintain and repair the premises or who has control over the premises Again, it can often be a shared responsibility, but you should review the terms of the lease for clarity as the landlord may place most of the obligations upon the tenant If the building has common parts which can be accessed by more than one tenant, then the landlord is likely to hold sole responsibility for that area

• Clear signage indicating fire exits

• As of 1 April 2023, the regulations will also apply to all existing tenancies, not just new tenancies

Sheringham Woodfields School will be holding its first Open Studio Event in the school courtyard from 9:30am to 14 30pm on Friday 30 September, and again on Friday 7 October 2022

The artworks on display will include paintings, charcoal drawings, sculptures and mono prints and portraits, all of which will have been created by the school's pupils and staff These exhibits will celebrate the traditions, locations, people and animals for which Norfolk is so well known

He continued: "Art plays an important part in the life of our school and last year a work entitled ‘Emotions in Colour' created by our Maple Class featured in the 2021 Royal Academy of Art Young Artists Summer Show

Sheringham Woodfields School is a purpose built school for pupils with complex needs situated on the outskirts of Sheringham, where it shares a campus with Sheringham Academy and Sheringham Primary School It offers exceptional facilities both within the school and in the outside play areas which are designed to assist pupils with complex needs and multi sensory impairments to gain the best possible education.

"Everyone here is greatly looking forward to the Open Studio Event, and we are hoping to attract visitors from the wider North Norfolk communities, as well as from the families and friends of our pupils and staff "

"The pupils and staff are working incredibly hard to produce an eclectic collection of artworks for our first Open Studio Event," commented Jake Millin, the teacher who is organising the Event

Recent developments, including the Fields Therapy Centre which was part of the Local Authority's SEND Transformation project, now enable the school to cater for 145 pupils from across Norfolk who are supported by 140 members of staff

Sheringham Woodfields pupils will be on hand at both Open Studio Events to greet visitors, serve refreshments and to provide an insight into the varied range of activities which make up the life of this innovative SEND school

It is also hoped to provide a limited number of tours around the school and its new Carole Fields Therapy Centre which, despite the disruption caused by COVID 19 and the subsequent lockdowns, has been in full use since last year

Sheringham Woodfields School to Hold its First Open Studio Event

The Coastal Art Group will be thinking of Bette Hodgson this summer as, after three years absence, it sets up at Weybourne Village Hall for its Summer Exhibition over the August Bank Holiday weekend August 26th, 27th and 28th. This, usually annual event, provides an opportunity for members of the group to exhibit their work, much of which is available to purchase We hope you can join us at some time over the weekend, especially as this year, it is held in memory of the Coastal Art Group’s Founder, Bette Hodgson Sadly, Bette, who set up the group over 15 years ago died at the end of May after a short illness and only a few days away from her 91st birthday Her service at Cromer Crematorium was well attended by Coastal Art Group members, family and friends, and members of the Weybourne Village Hall Management Committee on which Bette served for many years as a Committee member and Trustee Bette was a prolific watercolour painter of local Norfolk scenes and had drawn since childhood Bette lived in Bodham, until moving into care and up until a short while before Covid struck, she would drive around the local lanes and villages, stopping to sketch the scenes before her A pastime which gave her great pleasure Bette didn’t ‘teach’ the Group but would offer small but significant suggestions and words of ‘artistic wisdom’ to improve member ’s work and help members develop their skill Only in the last year did she find herself less able to paint She is remembered with fondness by all, but in particular by the Costal Art Group This year ’s Summer Exhibition, which Bette started and organised annually at Weybourne Village Hall, where we always meet on a Friday morning, will be displaying a vast selection of her watercolours for sale Some are already framed and ready to hang; others mounted and many smaller sketches, to suit all tastes Many signed, but all original and most of local Norfolk scenes The Exhibition opens its doors at 10am 4pm on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday weekend. Entrance is free but we will be holding a Raffle to win one of Bette’s framed watercolour paintings and also providing light refreshments, the proceeds of which, with any other donations received, will be in memory of Bette Hodgson and be going towards The Dementia Society UK to support their wonderful research work. Please try to find time to visit the Weybourne Village Hall in Beach Lane, sometime over the August Bank Holiday weekend, to see the work on display, buy a cup of tea and maybe a Raffle ticket You will receive a warm welcome from members of the Coastal Art Group We look forward to seeing you. For more information regarding the Summer Exhibition or joining the weekly Coastal Art Group at Weybourne, please contact Susan Metté on coastalartgroup1@gmail co

C The Italian Flying Monk By David Abbott Almost certainly you won’t have heard of St Joseph of Cupertino who lived in Italy around the time of Isaac Newton (1643 1727) I wouldn’t blame you for saying “so what?” But if I tell you he was called The Flying Monk that might cause you to pause for a moment Hundreds of witnesses claimed to have seen him levitating and flying around Puglia with almost casual abandon He got airborne on at least 70 occasions while offering mass or praying And without filing a single flight plan Even on his deathbed he was alleged to have made a feeble attempt to take off Now enter a fellow called Leibniz. Probably the only Leibniz you know is a yummy chocolate biscuit But this man was certainly no mere snack. Gottfried Leibniz was, like his contemporary Newton, a scientist researching gravitation So curious was Leibniz in the tale of this flying holy man that it was said he made a pilgrimage to see for himself It is claimed he witnessed one of the monk’s flights If he did, it must have puzzled him greatly because it contravenes the Newtonian laws of gravity, which definitely precludes human beings flying around unaided They should not be able to do more than make a little hop up before gravity does its worst But is all this true? Well this much we know: he did exist but didn’t exactly aspire during his early life It is said his mother often considered him a nuisance. He was ham fisted, a slow learner, absent minded and had a bad temper So, not exactly the most popular kid on the block. Eventually he got a job as a servant at the local Franciscan monastery. There he began to change, started to pray more and eventually entered the order It was then he began to work miracles and the alleged levitations started St Joseph was canonised by Pope Clement XIII and is now the patron saint of air travelers, pilots and (yes) astronauts! A biographer once claimed he was seen “to fly into the air backwards in a kneeling position ” An early example of reverse thrust? It remains hard to separate fact from fiction No evidence exists for Leibniz ever seeing him fly That would have been tricky because the only time he was in Italy was 27 years after the Saint’s death. As to the story about the Saint trying to levitate on his deathbed, the doctor who attended made no reference to any such event. Like many stories there are elements of truth but intertwined some claims that Isaac Newton would have found a bit of a stretch However, it remains a good story, doesn’t it?

From Mill to Plate

Letheringsett Watermill has undergone something of a transformation recently and is now offering coffee and cake as well as producing and selling their well known flour Thurlow’s Tea Room opened its doors at Easter replacing the Village Shop which was housed in the Mill Owner Michelle along with her partner, David and staff have been working hard to convert the ground floor of the Mill into a welcome space where visitors can enjoy a coffee or tea with homemade cakes made by friend Angela from Dereham A viewing window has been installed in the tearoom where the Mill’s spur wheel can be seen working when milling is taking place. There are also tables outside where visitors can sit by the River Glaven and enjoy the view Michelle is keen to source ingredients and produce as locally as possible Grain is sourced within North Norfolk and her flour is supplied to local bakeries and shops. The Mill now pro duces 15 different flours David, a joiner, is in the process of installing a kitchen area where Michelle is planning to produce baked goods, made with her own flour, to other businesses in the area, including sausage rolls using pork raised on David’s farm in Bodham

Letheringsett Watermill is one of only 24 water driven flour mills in the country, a rare one at that, as unlike other mills which are run as historical trusts or by local authorities, Letheringsett is one of only 3 independent mills The Mill was leased in 1987 by Michael Thurlow, Michelle’s father, with a view to restoring it back to its former glory Mike was not a miller by trade but researched the process of producing flour and, after much time, money and extensive restoration, production resumed and continues to this day Mike sadly passed away in 2013 and two years later his wife, Marion, also died, leaving their daughter Michelle to continue their work and develop the business. Michelle is passionate about continuing her parents’ legacy and keeping her flour production as local as possible She has named the new tearoom in their honour and plans to have a mural in the tearoom telling the story of the Mill’s history since it came into the family’s possession The Mill also offers tours to see how the flour is produced, milling takes place 3 or 4 times a week, depending on water levels in the river There also Mill site

5 North Norfolk Vikings Swimming Club enjoyed more success across the age range at recent Gala in Thetford. Patience and diligence were finally rewarded when 11 year old Winnie Browne got her very first medal for the club when she won the bronze over 50m backstroke with 46.15. However, she did not have to wait long for her second medal as it followed almost immediately: this time a silver in the 50m freestyle in 41.02. which was a well deserved double reward It was then the turn of Rosa Sadler aged 10, as more junior success followed Rosa along with 11 year old Bailee Beighton, achieved a bronze medal each Rosa of Sheringham, went 47 16 for 50m freestyle and Bailee in the 100m backstroke finished with 1:48 71 respectively Another junior, Rasvan Platon also demonstrated his improving ability and although not in the top three he still went 44 08 in the 50m freestyle and 48.37 the 50n backstroke respectively Reuben Seaman is swimming exceptionally well and for the last three outings he has developed somewhat of a Midas touch by achieving golds in all three. Thetford was no exception when he captured no fewer than five gold medals The 9 year old took a huge 18 seconds off his 200m freestyle when he hit the pad in 3:35.71. His elder sister Esme achieved a double silver in the 100m backstroke in 1:34 91 and in the 50m butterfly she went 51 28 respectively As expected, sibling rivalries between twin brothers, George and Zak Edridge were rejuvenated and in an exciting 200m breaststroke, Zak took the bronze medal in 3:56.34 at the expense of his brother's agonising disqualification Thetford's Roger Britcher was the worthy winner of the event in 3:33 38 However, George was not deterred by this and reverting to freestyle over 100m he won gold in 1:17 52 as the two 12 year olds took home no fewer than 5 medals between them Vikings won 13 Golds 7 Silvers and 11 Bronze medals "Our junior swimmers have progressed beyond all expectations recently as more youngsters continue to join our development squad " remarked Sam Watts lead coach to the Vikings John Holden To join Vikings visit them on info@norfolkvikings.co.uk
