As I write this the TV is telling me it is six mon since the conflict in Ukraine stated (or at leas escalated) and it occurs to me that the media h ‘ gone off the boil’ a bit on the impact the war having on the Ukrainian people I’m also min that the Festive Season is not that far away, traditionally a time of coming together and celebrating With so many people displaced by the war, this year will be a very different one for them So maybe now is the time to consider what we can do to let them know they are not forgotten Look out for opportunities to donate something which would bring a little cheer to them, the necessities are important but also toys and treats for the children There are lots of charities collecting for Ukraine, but please make sure you choose genuine fundraising organizations

Enjoy your September magazine

The Friesenried committee had put together a fairly simple visit programme for us which was very well received A mountain trip (The Mittagberg), a guided tour of Landsberg, important during the times of salt transport, a festival evening (beer and sausages plus brass band music) in Friesenried, a free day on Sunday, a visit to see cheese being produced then, blink, it was Tuesday and time to fly home Our group consisted of mainly committee members with two first timers who thoroughly enjoyed the experience I would like to thank anyone who helped organize things in any way

Town Twinning Germany Visit

Our last visit to Friesenried, our twin town in Germany, was four years ago in 2018. As you can see, it was beginning to drift and to improve the situation our German partners almost begged us to make it there during 2022 There were still doubts here in North Walsham, but several of us resolved to make the journey In fact, twelve of us travelled to Friesenried by car and air from the 28th of July to the 2nd of August

On that theme, but closer to home, the cost of living crisis is worsening, and many families will soon be having to make the choice between heat or eat We are all going to experience increased fuel bills and inflation, but if you can donate just one item for the Food Bank when you do your weekly shop it all helps If you receive vouchers from supermarket reward schemes, consider donating those to the Food Bank as these can purchase items needed for food parcels Coming together and helping each other has always got us through historically, we just have to what we do best again

If this inspires anyone to think about joining us please come along to the AGM in the Church Rooms (St Benets) at 18:30 on 30th September

Despite the negative press and headlines, Stansted was as smooth and organised as one could hope for, and we even took off on time! Being so few a bus was not required, and three members were at Memmingen to collect us and deliver us to our hosts and a rather special reception in Friesenried with the brass band playing and (as ever) a collection of delicious cakes I felt a bit like royalty standing there all hot and you know what in my shorts! Speeches and eating over we were taken by our hosts to their homes for a well earned rest.

A Deputy does the same job as an Attorney, but the application is time consuming, expensive and may not result in the person / people you

There may be a time when you can no longer share of communicate what you think, or you cannot make decision over your finances or legal affairs. This may be due to the development of a medical condition such as dementia If you are affected by dementia you will need to consider the legal and financial implications for you and your family

The Financial consequences of Dementia

When you or someone you care about has been diagnosed with dementia you should consider whether two legal documents are in place a Will and a Lasting Power of Attorney

Why is a Lasting or Enduring Power of Attorney important?

Having a Will allows you to decide what happens to your property and possessions and choose who they go to Wills can be put in place using Trusts to protect your property and to ensure beneficiaries in receipt of means tested benefits don't lose their entitlements through an inheritance

Ensuring you have the correct legal documents in place and forward planning can protect yourself and your loved ones in the event of an incapacitating illness such as dementia, an accident or injury. I always advise my clients to plan ahead for later life and have those important conversations with their family and friends while they can ’’

You will need to have capacity to make or change an existing Will If you have dementia you may still be able to make a new Will or change your Will, but you should speak to your solicitor who may also need to contact your GP to check you do have capacity

want managing your affairs, as the Deputy is chosen by the Court, not you It is better to make a Lasting Power of Attorney as it is quicker, cheaper and you choose your Attorney

If you have not made an Enduring or Lasting Power of Attorney it is still possible for someone who care for you to be appointed on your behalf to take decisions for you You would need to make an application to the Court of Protection for a Deputyship

Lin Whitehead, Partner, professional Member of Solicitors for the Elderly and Court of Protection Solicitor said ‘‘Here at Clapham & Collinge LLP, our lawyers are keen to do what they can, having seen first hand the devastating affect this condition has on the families who care for those diagnosed with dementia

World Alzheimer's Month is an annual international event held in September and run by Alzheimer's Disease International (ADI). The aim of the month is to raise awareness and challenge stigma surrounding Alzheimer's and dementia This year ’s theme is ‘the power of knowledge’, so we’ve prepared an article on the legal consequences of dementia which highlights the need to plan for later life

Having a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) in place is just as important as having a Will

Why is a Will important?

If you lose the ability to manage your own financial affairs, a partner or family member cannot automatically deal with things on your behalf

At the Age Concern North Norfolk Day Centre, we can observe and monitor fluid intake but keeping cool required some additional response. On the hottest day of the year, we arranged for a surprise visit from the ‘Cream of Norfolk’ Ice Cream man so that everyone could have their own ice cream We spent the morning creating pictures of ice cream cones before tasting the real thing

It is important to stress that symptoms of dehydration can be akin to those of dementia with changes in mood, confusion, impaired thinking and an increase in falls

Keeping Cool!

Places are available at the Day Centre ring

Couple this with a person already living with dementia who may forget to drink regularly, it will be important to set up reminders, such as a visual aid or to provide water rich foods such as cucumber, melon or courgettes to their diet

Each of us has a body made up of 60% water which is essential for the body and the brain to function. With the higher heat, we lose more water through sweating as well as through breathing and digestion and being dehydrated can have serious health implications for older people

With temperatures soaring like never before, it is important that everyone, especially older people, ensures that they are drinking enough fluids

The colour of a person’s urine will also provide an indicator of whether they are well hydrated the darker it is, the more fluid is required

Many of those who enjoyed the return of the festival after two years of covid cancellations

North Walsham’s Community Shop

“The best thing was seeing people with smiles on their faces and joy in their eyes,” said the Chair of the Festival Trustees, Jane Bond “Feedback from the artisans in the Made in Worstead tent and from all the other stallholders was amazingly positive. We’ve taken about 20 bookings for next year already!”

Their latest grants have included, £794 to Atrium Community Cinema to replace their projector, £500 to SNAP School to provide cameras for local schools as part of their photographic historical art workshops and (pictured) £170 to Friends of Millfield School to provide entertainment at their summer fair.

The takings are still being added up, but local good causes will be invited in due course to apply for grants to help in their work The festival website is worsteadfestival.org

The Worstead Festival wove its magic for thousands of people determined to enjoy the entertainment, re engage with crowds and relish the simple pleasure of meeting friends.

North Walsham’s Community Shop had another great year, with its annual report showing that it raised £65k in 2021, that enabled it to support local projects and groups with £32k of grants varying in value between £100 to several £1000

The bells of St Mary’s rang out as the trickle of visitors turned into a flood when the gates opened at ten each morning on the last weekend in July The welcoming team struggled at first to cope with the numbers of people streaming from the free car parks

This has all been achieved by its all voluntary team of 20 people, who give up their time in the two town centre shops They work in a variety of roles, from sales to collecting, sorting and preparing donations The shops sell many items, but they are particularly proud of the well stocked bookshelves in their ‘Book Nook’, and the clothes shop that has a wide range of very reasonably priced items that have been a great help to many people in town

Worstead Festival a Success

The shop is always seeking more people to join their friendly team and can be contacted through their Facebook group or by calling into either shop

North Walsham has more public car parking spaces in the town than are currently used, but the new bus station has meant the loss of some spaces at the New Rd car park. Local councillors know that easily accessible car parking spaces are important to our residents and visitors. Therefore, we are working with council officers to squeeze more parking spaces out of the District Council’s existing land and car parks Already for the coming months a free all day car park has been opened at Hornbeam Rd

In late August another project to improve the slope by the Shambles and the Hop Inn is nearing its end The works have taken longer than was originally planned but the new layout should be a great improvement and it is good to see Lepus, the hare, returning to the site

In total some £3.5 million pounds is being spent on the town centre, of which North Norfolk District Council is itself putting in over£1 million pounds.

North Walsham Town Football Club is important to many young footballers. It played a big part in the early career of Lauren Hemp, a star of the England

Cushing’s disease will progress if left untreated and can increase the risk of your dog developing other, potentially serious, conditions for which treatment can be intensive and costly. These include high blood pressure, diabetes, pancreatitis and increased susceptibility to infection However, Cushing’s disease can be successfully managed enabling your dog to return to their normal lifestyle Often the treatment of choice is a tablet which is given once a day and acts by reducing the production of cortisol by the adrenal glands

How is Cushing’s disease treated?

Your vet will advise a blood test shortly after starting the medication and at intervals throughout your pets life to monitor how your dog is responding to treatment and ensure they are receiving the most effective dose

How is Cushing’s disease diagnosed in dogs?

As pet owners we all understand how important it is to be watching for

What are the signs of Cushing’s disease in dogs?

If your dog is suspected to have Cushing’s syndrome your vet will perform blood tests specific for Cushings disease and known as either an ACTH stimulation test or a low dose dexamethasone suppression test.

What is Cushing’s disease?

signs of disease so this week we focus on a particular disease seen in dogs and called Cushing’s disease

Cushing’s disease (also called hyperadrenocorticism) is caused by an overproduction of cortisol, a naturally occurring steroid hormone This overproduction is usually due to a benign tumour of either the pituitary gland (a gland found at the base of the brain) or one of the adrenal glands (found in the abdomen, next to each kidney)

Although this sounds a little scary, it’s a disease we know a lot about and can control well to give pets a normal life

Often dogs will show excessive thirst and frequent urination, increased appetite and therefore weight gain. Some owners may notice that their dog starts to get a pot bellied appearance, hair loss and thin skin. Other symptoms which can be seen are excessive panting, muscle loss or weakness, lethargy and increased frequency of urinary and skin infections.

Coconut oil or vegetable oil (coconut oil is now widely available in most supermarkets for reasonable prices, and Larners do a large jar for £6 50 that lasts a long time)

Editor ’s Recipe

150ml milk

Super Spuds!

well when cool and freeze for another day

I large white onion

2 teaspoons mixed spice

250g apples, peeled, cored and chopped fairly small

belly filler, plus they are marvellous at taking on other flavours The classic jacket and spud and beans features regularly in our house as it just really hits the spot Keep a couple of tins of new potatoes on the shelf for recipes such as this too, they make a super quick meal I hope you find these recipes helpful, and maybe use them as inspiration to experiment further with one of our national favourites

375g self raising flour

60g demerara sugar

Gently fry the onion in a non stick frying pan with little oil over a medium heat, being careful not to burn it Once translucent, add in the veg and the herbs and paprika and stir to coat (add a little more oil if needed but don’t drown it). Fry gently until all heated through, making room in the pan to crack in an egg and cook through, then serve with baked beans

4 blocks frozen spinach, defrosted (available most supermarkets, or use 1 bag fresh)

Carolyn Burn

1 large white or red onion, finely diced Sprinkle dried mixed herbs Tsp Smoked paprika Mug full of defrosted veg such as green beans, peas or sweetcorn

Apple and Sultana Cake

A little oil for frying

Gently fry the onion, garlic and ginger in a tablespoon of oil until translucent, then add in the curry powder and mix well Place potatoes in the pan and turn to coat well, add in a little more oil if needed Stir through the spinach and cook for a further 5 minutes being careful not to burn it Serve immediately with mango chutney, naan bread and rice

2 tsp curry powder

2 fat cloves garlic, finely diced Thumb size piece ginger, peeled and diced small Cooked new potatoes (or use a tin of new potatoes, drained)

Grated rind of 1 lemon

You can also make up a batch of crumble filling with apple and add whatever berries you choose (foraged blackberries are good) sprinkled with sugar, whip up some crumble topping, assemble the crumbles and cook in the oven at 180C/Gas4 for 30mins or so, cool and freeze. Great budget savvy recipes ready to go.

Quick Saag Aloo

Method

Cooked new or old potatoes, cut into chunks (or use a tin of new potatoes, drained)

185g soft brown sugar

Preheat your oven to 180C/Gas 4 Line and grease a deep 18cm (7”) round cake tin Put the sultanas and chopped apple in a bowl with the milk and put to one side Mix the flour, brown sugar, mixed spice and lemon rind together, blend in the melted butter and egg and when evenly mixed add the fruit mixture and beat in with a spatula or wooden spoon until well combined Pour into the prepared cake tin, level the mixture and sprinkle over the demerara sugar Bake in the oven for approx 1½ hours or until firm to the touch Leave in the tin to cool for 5 10 minutes then turn out onto a cooling rack and leave to until cold This cake keeps well for a few days in an airtight tin or wrap in baking paper then foil and freeze

The squeeze is getting tighter at the tills across the country, and we’ve all got to try to make our pounds go further it seems just to be able to pay the heating bills Luckily, the supermarkets have cottoned on and are at least trying to help out a little with offers on goods A lot of these seem to be on highly processed foods though, so if you like real food, the best thing is to get back to basics and choose foods that tend not to fluctuate too much with the market Potatoes can usually be bought for the same prices across the seasons, and if you buy in bulk and store them in your garage or shed in the cool you’ll get an even better price They are a staple food for a reason; there’s just so much you can do with a spud! They can do breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks and are a good

If you have an apple tree, or know someone who has, then chances are you will be getting a surplus of fruit very soon and wondering what to do with it all I have never been very successful at storing apples so would rather do a bit of batch baking and freezing to use them up. This cake is simple to make and easy to scale up to make several at once (saving on fuel to cook them too!), then simply wrap up

to be police officers During the calls they were encouraged to withdraw large amounts of money from their bank

Further advice includes:

• Fraudsters will keep the line open and have been known to play ringtones, hold music and a recorded message down the phone so the victim believes they are making a call to a legitimate number Ensure you can hear a dialling tone before calling police or use a friend or neighbour's telephone instead

• Do not rush into complying to the scammers demands / requests.

downtime is minimal and it is safer for darker skin types You get benefits of both micro needling and radiofrequency energy

• Once you’re sufficiently numb, therapist will begin by applying the hand piece to your skin, covering the entire treatment area.

• Uneven skin texture • Large pores

Recently fractional micro needling devices have become very popular Some well known devices are Morpheus8, Profound RF, Vivace, Potenza, Infini RF, Fractora RF, Genuis RF, and Secret RF We use a Polaris RF machine, which has both minimally invasive micro needling RF and non invasive fractional RF treatment capability.

Generally you can be back to normal activities in 48 hours

to support users as they swipe the ground with their white canes Raised granite sets at the entrance to the new islands give a different message to tell users that they have reached a bus island

What happens during RF Micro needling treatment?

Many very fine needles penetrate the skin momentarily and RF energy flows between needle tips causing precise heating under the skin layers to create new collagen. This avoids heating the top layers of the skin so

Most talked about skin rejuvenation treatment - radiofrequency micro needling is available at the Coltishall Clinic. Why not come and try it?!

• A consultation is required to confirm your suitability for this procedure

The New Road Travel Hub in North Walsham making it as user friendly as possible for blind and partially sighted users

As one of the biggest public transport user groups, it is vital that blind and partially sighted adults, young people and those with guide dogs are able to access the new hub and move around it so they can get on and off the buses safely and easily Tactile studs on the pedestrian walkway have been installed

Bernie Reddington and Scott Vallance from RNIB and Edward Bates from Vision Norfolk, commented: “We are pleased to have met with engineers and representatives from NNDC to talk about some of the issues and have a test walk around the site It is vital that provision is made so that we are able to access this wonderful new hub as we are reliant on public transport to get about We hope to be involved in further discussions as other phases of the town centre regeneration come about "

North Walsham Times September w2022 ww rosevillapublications co uk 24 01603 736487

It is hoped that a different tactile surface can be added to signify the end of the walkway The new Travel Hub will undergo a post completion safety audit in the coming weeks and comments from this user group will be shared with auditors

We recommend our Doctor Formula Serum and recovery cream to compliment this procedure

What is fractional radiofrequency micro needling?

• Fine lines and wrinkles • Skin laxity

How long is the recovery after RF Micro needling?

Make up can be applied after 4 hours.

• Acne scars • Stretch marks

• As the micro needles puncture your skin and penetrate the dermis, they will emit RF energy as heat You may feel a warm, prickling sensation

Log on to www.coltishallclinic.co.uk or call 01603 736487 to book your appointment.

What can fractional radiofrequency micro needling treat?

Listening to representatives from Vision Norfolk and RNIB

• A numbing cream will be applied A cold air chiller may be used for your comfort

North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) in partnership with Norfolk County Council, worked with representatives from Vision Norfolk and the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) at their new Travel Hub in North Walsham Stimulated by the works already happening as part of the High Street Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ) Project and supported by NNDC, this is a further example of how the project team for the travel hub is listening to the residents and visitors to North Walsham

• After the treatment is complete, a serum, or cream will be applied to your skin

The most common treatment areas include the face, neck, and décolletage, but the RF micro needling hand piece can also be used on the abdomen, knees, thighs, and almost any other body area

Representatives met with highways engineers on site to test the pedestrian walkway, access to the new bus islands and movement around the stops This was to ensure that as many adaptations as possible could be made to enhance the experience for blind and partially sighted users

The recovery is very quick You may see minor pinpoint bleeding, may experience mild discomfort or swelling for a day or two More aggressive treatments can result is mild swelling for a few days

This project is part of the overall investment in the town to encourage footfall and stimulate trade It is anticipated that at the hub, passengers will have a better experience with brand new shelters, seating and newly refurbished toilets

Radio Frequency [RF] treatment is a very well established skin rejuvenation treatment We have non invasive mono polar, bipolar and multipolar machines so you can have your choice of treatments

The test for defamation

• the statement in question is one which tends to lower the reputation or opinion of an individual, business or organisation in the estimation of the wider public;

Sharing ideas and opinions over the internet has many benefits It enables us to communicate quickly and to relay information easily with the simple click of a button. But what few people realise is that when you post something online which is negative or disparaging whether via a social media platform, a news outlet, a customer review site or even a special interest forum you could be falling foul of the rules on defamation; thereby exposing yourself to the risk of being sued for damages and legal costs.

• any accusations which tend to have a substantially adverse effect on the way an individual, business or organisation is treated by the wider public For example, causing them to be shunned or avoided, or to be subject to hatred, ridicule or contempt; and

It may be possible for you to defend a claim of defamation on a number of different grounds, including where you can show that what you said in your statement:

• was substantially true; or

Once something has been published online, it can be difficult to retract the statement and to stop it being shared and reposted multiple times For this reason, if you have posted something online that has now come back to bite you, it is important you take legal advice

Beryl, the only female in the group, was a petite, wafer thin blonde with a disconcerting tic which made her look as though she was winking at everyone

There was a knock at the door The rest of the group had arrived: all three of them. Alan, a tall, gangly intense lad whose fashion sense extended to corduroy trousers Peter worked in a local hardware store, always wore shades and liked it to be believed he was actually in the SAS

Alan, you want to say something?”

So, on the night of 24 June the group headed for the deserted airfield Alan in his Ford Zephyr with nodding dog in the back window and Ken and Ray in their rusting Saab There they sat watching the sky as slowly and inevitably the clouds rolled in, and visibility dropped to zero. There was only one thing for it: out came the thermos, Typhoo and condensed milk

by David Abbott

If it was a ghost perhaps it was hoping for a lift back to Kentucky in a flying saucer?

Ken cleared his throat. “Good to see you all As usual we are looking at taking part in the annual national Skywatch on 24 June You all know this was when Kenneth Arnold reported seeing nine discs flying over the Cascade Mountains in Washington State The pilot said they were like saucers skipping over water coining the phrase Flying Saucer.” As Ken said, everyone knew that But didn’t stop him saying it Ken was good at facts

© copyright: this article may not be reproduced without the express permission of the author

Bedsits in the 60s were depressing places Sparsely furnished and smelling of damp washing This one also held a dark secret The residents, brothers Ken and Roy, used condensed milk in their tea

By 12.45am Beryl was snoring and talking loudly in her sleep about sheep Ken and Roy sat immobile, wishing they could have a close encounter. Anything to pass the time. All of a sudden behind the vehicle came the distinct sound of boots crunching gravel. It grew louder Then, when it seemed to have reached the back of the car, it stopped abruptly. Ken rolled down the window “Peter is that you Wot you doing?” The door of the Ford Zephyr flew open, and Peter emerged. “Was that you Ken?” At that point the group realized they were substituting one mystery for another although this one appeared a bit too close for comfort

Last year, he reminded them, they used a nearby disused airfield. “Does everyone feel that it the right place for er, yes,

“Do you think Johnny Cash is sincere when he sings about religion? Does he believe?” “Well… I don’t know,” said Ken, somewhat bemused At which point the meeting descended into an argument for and against the proposition

Eventually and before it got personal, Ken called for order “Can we get back to the matter in hand, please?” It didn’t take long (two hours a record for the group) to decide on the same place.

As they stirred their sickly brew, they sat in silence contemplating their evening This one was different from the last 264 It was a rare meeting of their local UFO group and the agenda had only one item: the annual Skywatch

Back at the bedsit and with dawn breaking, they puzzled over what they had heard. Alan said the old airfield was used by the United States in World War 2 and maybe was haunted by the ghost of an airman seeking a way home?

An Autumn Treat: Strolling Around Cromer with Rembrandt

North Walsham Times September w2022 ww rosevillapublications co uk 27

Across several early mornings at the end of August paintings from the National Gallery were being 'set free' in Cromer The streets around the Gem of the Norfolk Coast are being turned into an open air gallery as 30 paintings were hung outside buildings, so that when the locals venture out, they come face to face with some of the greatest achievements of Western European art

The exhibition has been made possible through the support of North Norfolk District Council, Cromer Town Council, Norfolk County Council, many local people and businesses and by highly skilled Artspace volunteers dedicating hundreds of hours to the project over the past year The unique collaboration with the National Gallery has enabled picture licensing and special photographic facilities for selected images as well as invaluable assistance from a dedicated National Touring Exhibitions Manager and a schools liaison facilitator

Pictures Around Cromer, The National Gallery Collection 2 September 2022 – 30 April 2023

Just as in a gallery, each painting has an information board about the image, linked to a dedicated website A leaflet map supports the exhibition which adds an extra ‘je ne sais quoi’ to the streets of Cromer this autumn and winter

Great works have always inspired the sixteenth century Grotesque Old Woman is said to have inspired Tenniel’s illustration of the Ugly Duchess in Alice in Wonderland, the Arnolfini Portrait inspired some of the Muppets and the team invite you to be inspired by the works in this exhibition

While the National Gallery welcomes vast numbers, most people don’t have the opportunity to visit the gallery in London, and many are unaware that they display some of the most famous paintings in the world. This exhibition takes the images to the people, extending the reach of one of the most prestigious galleries in the world to the streets of Cromer

The idea is simplicity itself From Caravaggio to Zurbarán, Monet to Manet and van Gogh to van Huysum, this exciting new exhibition, in collaboration with the National Gallery, brings life sized reproductions to the streets of Cromer, providing visitors with a multiplicity of photo opportunities other than the iconic pier This exhibition is a follow on from the Bigger Picture which brought an outside exhibition to Cromer during the lockdowns And the reason for masterpieces from Caravaggio to Constable vying for position on the streets of Cromer?

"I am really looking forward to be able to do my swimming alongside my schooling. I currently have a long way to travel for training, but at St Felix this will not be a problem I can then be more focused to achieving national times and entries next year The coaches at Vikings have really helped me on my way and hopefully will put me in a good place for the next chapter " remarked Isaac

He finished at Beeston Hall School in July, where he attended with his younger brother Noah, who also swims for the Vikings

His swimming achievements have not just been confined to pools He has competed open water events too. He also came runner up in the Norfolk Open water Championships held at Whitlingham

‘Chinese Boxing’ uses the story of the Chinese Boxer Rebellion of 1900 to talk about relations between China and the West It begins as a lecture given by Sir Claude Macdonald (played by David Niven in the 1963 film ’55 Days in Peking’ about the same episode) and develops into an entertaining piece of theatre, perfectly suited for the Auden The show is followed by a Q & A session that could get lively Mark lived in China

Isaac Buchan

Isaac Buchan of Beeston Regis has been awarded a swimming scholarship by St Felix School in Southwold The 13 year old North Norfolk Vikings Club Swimmer is about to start the new school term training under the auspices of former Sprowston High School student and GB team Manager Suzanne Purchase

Local writer/actor Mark Kitto performs his entertaining solo play ‘Chinese Boxing’ at the Auden Theatre on 21 September

Isaac Is Awarded Swimming Scholarship

In his respective age group, he was runner up in the 800m in the Regionals as well as achieving 10 additional regional qualifying times He reached the Independent Schools final held at the London Aquatic Centre and upon leaving Beeston he held all 19 records for year 8 boys He also holds 4 Vikings records

With the ground rock hard, it needed the intervention of volunteers using tractors and tankers to spray the pitches to enable the season to start on 3rd September, Canterbury visiting Scottow Park

There will be a bar open before the show and during the pause before the Q & A session

For tickets go to www trybooking com and enter ‘Chinese Boxing’ on the Buy Tickets page

Paul Morse

The scholarship has come about as a result of his excellent swims with the Vikings from when he first joined as an 8 year old Subsequently this has provided him with a platform for him to succeed further His main focus has been the freestyle events.

Another Round of ‘Chinese Boxing’

Mark Kitto

for 18 years and has written two books and many articles about the country He was Prospect Magazine’s China columnist He performed on stage, in Chinese, with the Shanghai People’s Arts Theatre and is now a professional actor in the UK.

The Valkyries, Youth & Minis have restarted on Sunday mornings Newcomers are welcome; membership fees are not payable for a month so giving players and their parents time to see if they enjoy rugby and the Club More then 50% of the Vikings and Raiders came through the Club’s youth set up A number will be moving into senior rugby this season with Jack Austin, Alfie Coop and Billy Tait amongst those Knight expects to make an impact

Last year Mark toured ‘Chinese Boxing’ around the UK and Europe Libby Purves described it as ‘beguiling, fascinating, this is a show to see’, on her website www theatrecat com Do read the whole review. And Carla Phillips of the EDP, who saw the show at Wells Maltings, says: ‘Entrancing incredibly powerful Don’t miss it!’

That game marked the Vikings return to National League rugby after 15 years, and saw Dave Horne stand down as President after nine distinguished years to be replaced by Chris Lomax This Saturday (10th) the Vikings travel to Bury St Edmunds, this first time Norfolk’s and Suffolk’s leading clubs have met since 2011 12

The Vikings had two pre season fixtures winning at Broadstreet (Coventry) 47 5 and losing at Shelford 26 19. Director of Rugby James Knight was pleased with the way preparations for life in National 2 East had

Dave Horne celebrating victory at Brentwood January 2020

gone also commenting, ““it’s another step up, our second consecutive promotion so it’s going to be challenging but we’re up for it I’m confident in the squad with healthy competition for most positions ”

The Vikings are next home on 17th September to Albanians, with Henley the visitors on 1st October.

After several sold out local shows last year, North Norfolk actor and writer Mark Kitto is again performing his solo show ‘Chinese Boxing’, on Wednesday 21 Sept at the Auden Theatre, Gresham’s, in Holt In a nice twist, WH Auden, former Gresham’s pupil whom the theatre is named after, also wrote about China in his ‘China Sonnets’, inspired by an infamous trip he made there in 1938 with Christopher Isherwood
