Mini Donkeys –Cross Bearers Following a theme of creature visits to the Age Concern North Norfolk Day Centre, we welcomed two mini donkeys, Pixie and Jack for the afternoon A small corral was set up outside and once their hooves were cleaned of dirt, they came into the centre and were very well behaved Donkeys are the only animals in the world which have a cross on their backs stemming from Biblical times when the lowly donkey carried Jesus into Jerusalem and stood in the shadow of the cross at Calvary. Jack’s cross was more obvious than Pixie’s due to her colour

The sparkle and vibrancy is certainly back in North Lodge Park now that the community café has reopened for the summer season Hundreds of people attended the opening day celebrations on 2nd July and have been returning since to enjoy morning coffee or afternoon tea by the boating pond The café is being managed and run by a new team of volunteers with all profits being given to support local charities in Cromer The volunteers hope to raise as much money as possible over the busy summer months and will decide in September, which local charities are to benefit Sue Pope, one of the volunteer managers, said: “so many people have said that they have missed the café and love the new look Obviously, we want to be able to stay open for as long as possible, enabling us to donate as much money as possible to deserving local charities However, although there has been a wonderful response in recruiting new volunteers, we cannot keep the doors open beyond our license term of 30th September without recruiting many more Therefore, if you feel you can help this worthy cause by giving some of your time, even just a couple of hours a week, please get in touch ” Remember, the café cannot remain open without a team of volunteers so if you would like to join the team, please contact Sue on 07340 936171, or by email at: northlodgecafe@gmail com Probus Club

On 5 July we enjoyed our usual excellent lunch at the Links Hotel in West Runton and then Chris Bell (who may be familiar from his TV appearances as a weather forecaster on Look East) spoke to us about meteorology. Chris is one of the directors of Weatherquest (a private weather forecasting company) and he also lectures in meteorology at the UEA It was fascinating to learn of the many areas of life where detailed, localised weather forecasts are needed, e.g. in agriculture (e.g. should a farmer avoid spraying his crops on the following day?), renewable energy (will it be too windy for maintenance crews to work safely on the turbines?), ports (will the sea swell be too high or choppy for certain ships to enter industrial dock areas?) and so on There are many steps to be taken before a weather forecast is issued, e g: observations of the atmosphere, temperatures, wind, rainfall, visibility, air pressure, clouds, sunshine and solar radiation Formerly these details were all plotted on charts but now this is all done on computers Satellites are also used, to measure winds at different levels in the atmosphere, and also to measure sand or salt content in the air Interestingly, Chris referred to the ‘weather event’ in 1987 when the TV weather forecaster Michael Fish said that there would not be a hurricane the next day Apparently, Michael Fish was correct he had been talking about something coming across the North Atlantic and which was not, technically speaking, a hurricane This was an extremely informative and well illustrated talk and Chris was thanked by the chairman and all present On 6th September, Paul Hensby and Mike Goldwater will talk to us about Poppyland Radio More on these subjects in future reports! If you would like to know more about the club, including other meetings in the future, please visit our website www candsprobus club or contact our Lunch Secretary Dave Vickery on 01263 824306

Reviving the Organ at Heydon A Celebration Organ Recital - 30th September

The unique Norfolk conservation village of Heydon in Norfolk is set to bring their recently restored pipe organ in its fourteenth century St Peter and Paul’s Church back to life with a memorable organ recital on Friday 30th September. The recital will be given by Ashley Grote Master of Music at Norwich Cathedral and a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists His programme will include popular organ works by J.S. Bach Elgar, Handel, Louis Lefébure Wély’s famous “Sortie” in E flat and Widor ’s mighty “Toccata” from the 5th Symphony

The organ was donated to the parish in 1883 by General Edward Bulwer in memory of his wife, Belle, who had died aged 45 General Bulwer was a member of the family, now Bulwer Long, who have owned the Heydon Estate and have lived at Heydon Hall since 1756 Heydon village is one of only about a dozen English villages that remain predominantly family owned and became Norfolk’s first conservation area in 1971 In 2014, the organ was awarded a Grade II certificate by the British Institute of Organ Studies (BIOS) as it includes an unusual reverse console, which permits the player to look out into the church instead of facing inward

The rare and unusual pipe organ in the historically important church has just undergone a full restoration thanks to a grant of £33,600 from The National Heritage Lottery fund, combined with funds raised over several years by various activities in the quintessentially English county village near Reepham

Vanilla Butter Biscuits Ingredients 200g softened butter 200g caster sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla extract/paste 1 large egg, beaten 400g plain flour 100g chocolate chips (optional)

Start with the tomato sauce: gently fry the onion and garlic in a little of the oil for about 5 minutes until becoming soft and then add the herbs and sundried tomatoes Heat through and add the tinned tomatoes and pesto and thicken with the puree Simmer for about 10 minutes and then check seasoning Whizz up with a hand blender until smooth and set aside Preheat the oven to 200° Unroll the pastry but leave on the wrapper that it came in, and place onto a flat baking sheet. Measure in about an inch from the edge and score all the way around, not cutting through to the bottom but just marking it this will be your edge and all the filling will be in the middle Spoon on some tomato sauce and spread around the tart, not going over the scored area (tip: don’t use too much as you will end up with a soggy tart) Scatter over the olives and the mozzarella and place in the oven for around 30 minutes, or until the edges are starting to brown and have puffed up, and the filling is bubbling and hot Scatter over the fresh basil or some rocket and serve immediately with a fresh summer salad

Simple Summer Supper

Italian Summer Tart 1 pack ready rolled puff pastry 1 onion, finely chopped 1 garlic clove, finely chopped A few sundried tomatoes from a jar, plus a little of the oil Flat tsp dried oregano 1 tin chopped tomatoes 2 tsp red or green pesto Tblsp tomato puree

Never underestimate the genius and versatility of ready made puff pastry; not only is it incredibly economical to buy (Lidl version is only 85p!) but it also keeps well in the fridge, and you can make so many delicious and quick dishes from it in no time at all I do prefer to make my own pastry when I have the time, but puff pastry is a bit of a rat race to make, and this ready made does taste delicious in the summer, there are just so many other things to be doing! I have shared this recipe as it is such a good looking dish to take along to barbeques, friends suppers, or just to serve the family, but it won’t break the bank This is the basic simple recipe, but feel free to switch it up and scatter over any toppings you like, such as salami, roasted veg or garlic mushrooms I use the ready rolled pastry for extra conven ience, which comes wrapped in its own grease proof paper, so you can just unroll it and leave it in there on your baking tray, what could be easier? The recipe doesn’t use all the tomato sauce, so you can stir that through some pasta another day bonus!

A small handful of black olives, sliced in half 1 ball mozzarella cheese, sliced Fresh basil leaves

All there is to do now is select your choice of ice cream, take 2 biscuits, place a dollop of ice cream on one biscuit, sandwich together with another and enjoy! Jo editor

You will need 2 baking trays lined with baking paper and a 6cm round cutter Preheat the oven to 180C/Gas 4 Cream the butter, vanilla and sugar together in a large bowl (use a mixer if you have one but you can use a wooden spoon and lots of elbow grease) until light and fluffy, mix in the egg and chocolate chips if using, sift in the flour and mix to a dough (on slow speed if using a mixer or bring together with your hands) Split the dough in two and flatten into 2 discs, wrap the dough in clingfilm and chill in the fridge for at least 30mins.

Carolyn Burn Running out of things to do with the children or grandchildren yet? Days out can be expensive and a round of ice creams mounts up too So, I thought a fun thing to do at home with a delicious treat at the end would be just the thing Get the kids to bake some simple biscuits, fill with their favourite ice cream and smiles all round! This recipe makes about 24 biscuits or 12

The responsibility of fire safety regulations falls with the 'Responsible Person' who is in control of the premises The terms of the lease must stipulate who is responsible for complying with statutory requirements and you should be familiar with those requirements. It may also be that the landlord and tenant have overlapping responsibilities The responsibilities vary depending on the size of the premises, but can include:

The responsibility of the control of asbestos within a commercial property falls with the 'Duty Holder' which is the person required to maintain and repair the premises or who has control over the premises Again, it can often be a shared responsibility, but you should review the terms of the lease for clarity as the landlord may place most of the obligations upon the tenant. If the building has common parts which can be accessed by more than one tenant, then the landlord is likely to hold sole responsibility for that area

Health & Safety

• All business premises must have a working fire detection system in place.

If the property has asbestos and you do not have a plan for its safe management, you may be subject to enforcement action, an unlimited fine and imprisonment of up to 2 years

• As of 1 April 2027, the minimum efficiency rating of the property is raised to C

• Keeping firefighting equipment on site such as fire extinguishers and sprinklers Failure to comply with fire safety regulations could not only lead to enforcement and an unlimited fine but also up to 2 years imprisonment

The regulations state that you must take steps to find out if there is asbestos at the property and it is recommended an accredited surveyor is instructed to the inspection for safety reasons If asbestos is located, it does not necessarily need to be removed unless the surveyor advises you to do so, but you must form and follow a system for safely managing the asbestos

• Clear signage indicating fire exits

The responsibility of Health and Safety in a commercial property and the workplace is likely to fall upon the tenant as an employer, but landlords should be aware that they will be responsible for healthy and safety in any communal areas that can be accessed by more than one tenant A guide for workplace health and safety can be accessed on the Gov.uk website which summarises those responsibilities in full Responsibilities include but are not limited to providing safe equipment, toilet facilities, space, ventilation, light and drinking water If you fail to comply with healthy and safety

► Half fill a washing up bowl with water and float some pieces of veg on the top of the water for the hens to dip for!

► Give them some logs and tree stumps to sit on These are especially useful in winter when the ground is cold as it gives your birds chance to warm their feet your Home Flock Haven

This summer has been my busiest in 9yrs for abandoned hoglets coming into care, I’m sure the lack of rain has been causing the mothers to leave as they cannot find any food and more importantly water so therefore their bodies cannot produce the milk So please, if you can, put out a shallow dish of water Thank you

Pet chickens make fantastic pets and they love toys and puzzles, writes Brydy Crane Here are some ideas for activities to brighten your chicken’s day!

► Fresh sprouted greens are a nutritious source of food for our chickens. Your chickens will soon eat them up, but you can protect the tender sprouts with a simple wire frame Now, your chickens can enjoy weeks of grazing without any resowing work needed

► Chickens love to forage under bushes Simulate this for your birds by using a child’s play tunnel with treats hidden in it to give them some fun while foraging

► Make a climbing frame out of logs and branches Be sure to clean well first with soapy water to prevent the spread of any diseases from wild birds to your flock ► Hang a parrot mirror in the run They love their own reflections! ► Chickens love to swing! Make a chicken sized swing using a branch or piece of wood and rope. ► String up fruit and veg, your chickens will love trying to peck at them ► Teach your chickens an instrument! Your chicks will love pecking at a child’s xylophone strung up to the side of their enclosure ► Hide some vegetable treats around the run and let them seek it out!

Duncan Baker, our local Member or Parliament recently posted on his website that he was running in the London Marathon again this year. His intention is to raise £1000 for each of 25 local charities from donations he hoped to receive for his efforts For the last mile he hopes to raise £5000 for the Ukraine He had previously asked people to nominate local charities to benefit and we were one of the lucky charities chosen If you can, please support him, as by doing so you will be helping, not only the branch, but also other good causes. It is important when looking to re home our cats and kittens to make sure that the home will be suitable for them and also that the cat/kitten will be the right match for the new family Stephanie will ask several questions to establish which cats would be suitable for a particular home as we do want both the new owner and the cat(s) to be happy She will ask them whether they are looking for a cat or kitten, if they are looking for an indoor cat or one that is allowed to go outside, if they live near a busy road, whether they already have cats, and if so, how old they are, if they have other pets and, if they have, what are they? She will also ask if they are looking for a cat with a particular temperament for instance, do they want a lap cat or are they are willing to give a home to a timid cat Having asked these questions she can then decide which cats might be suitable and give them the contact details of the person in whose care they are She will advise them of any health issues the cat may have had before being put up for adoption and also explain how to integrate the timid ones into their new home They will have received lots of tender loving care while with us but may still take longer to adapt to new surroundings This will, however, be explained to the new family prior to their visit For those who already have pets, again, we will need to ensure only cats that would be happy living with other animals are suggested as possible candidates We are always honest about the health and character of our cats as we do hear of instances where cats have been re homed which are not suitable for their particular family

If you are looking for a cat or kitten (or have any other queries) please give Stephanie a call on 01692 535858 Please be aware that if you are interested in giving one of our cats a home you need to contact by phone rather than by the contact form on our website, www northwalsham cats org uk where a description and photograph of the cats can be seen Stephanie does not use a computer for her cat work so there is a delay in responding to enquiries this way and as she deals with enquiries on a first come first serve policy, she may have already spoken to someone who is interested in giving the cat a home.

• Find a safe place to go • Be able to swim and float Stay close to a friend or family member. Always go with someone else when you go into or near water Friends or family can help in an emergency The water is powerful: It’s not what you’re used to in a swimming pool.

• Always check the tide times and heights and keep a look out for incoming tide Use tide timetables or a tidal prediction app like AnyTide Make sure you have enough time to return safely If in doubt, seek local advice.

• ensure children are closely supervised • keep nearby • only use between the red and yellow flags

• follow the lifeguards' advice

• There might be dangers under the water The water is moving water around our coasts and in rivers is always moving

Below you will find hints to help keep you and your family safe Please cut this article out and keep it; it may just save you or your family’s lives On the beach or any body of water Be prepared • Stay close to a friend or family member Plan for your activity

not take out in big waves • do not use when the orange windsock is flying, as this indicates offshore wind What to do if a child goes missing • Calmly check the surroundings first, ensuring other children remain supervised • Contact the lifeguards or police and keep them informed • Let all searchers know once the child is found For more information go to RNLI Respect The Water, Broads Authority web site for information on the Broads. ENJOY YOUR TIME AT THE COAST STAY SAFE Carry a means of calling for help and keep it protected and attached to you at all times. • Tell someone where you are going and when you expect to be back. • Check the weather and tide times. • Read signs and be aware of local hazards. oRNM The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea Royal National Lifeboat Institution, charity registered in England and Wales (209603) and Scotland (SC037736). • Red flags Danger! Never go in the water under any circumstances when the Red Flag is flying

• The water is moving

• Rips are strong currents running out to sea that can easily take swimmers out beyond their depth Know what to do if you get caught in one

• Unexpected waves can quickly sweep people off their feet, even on a calm day Keep an eye on the water and don't go too close to the water ’s edge

• The water is colder than you think

Summer holidays are coming, and we are expecting more people than ever to visit our beaches and inland waterways The RNLI, HM Coastguard and Broads Authority are all working to keep people safe near water

• If you're in trouble in a rip current: If you can stand, walk, don’t swim If you have a board or inflatable, you should keep hold of it to help you float Raise your hand and shout for help. Never try and swim against the rip or you'll get exhausted Swim parallel to the beach until you are free of it then make for shore Our advice for tidal cut off:

• Red and Yellow flags Lifeguard areas, safe areas to swim, bodyboard and use inflatables

• Orange Windsock Indicates offshore or strong winds Never use inflatables when the windsock is flying Inflatables

• Tides cause a rise and fall in sea level. Check times of high and low tide so you don't get cut off

• Blow up toys and airbeds are designed for pools, not the sea where they can easily be blown offshore If you must use them at the beach, then:

• Tell someone else where you’re going and when you’ll be back They can raise the alarm with the coastguard by calling 999 or 112 if you are overdue BEACH SAFETY Know your flags

• Always carry a means of calling for help on your person Call 999 or 112 and ask for the coastguard if you are in danger or you see someone in danger of being cut off by the tide

• The edge can be dangerous

• Black and White cheqered flags are for surfboards, stand up paddleboards, kayaks and other non powered craft Launch and recovery area for kitesurfers and windsurfers Never swim or bodyboard here

In Norfolk and Waveney, plans for new diagnostic centres in the community will improve patient waiting times, reduce the chance of last minute cancellations of non urgent procedures, and enable patients to get multiple tests at the same visit It is also expected to vastly improve outcomes for cancer patients due to earlier diagnosis This work is being led by NHS Norfolk and Waveney (the Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care Board, or ICB) These plans support the NHS’s elective recovery programme, which aims to cut waiting times that built up during the Covid pandemic Across the east of England alone, the number of patients waiting two years for treatment has been reduced by more than 80% since January thanks to the hard work and dedication of NHS staff Tracey Bleakley, Chief Executive Officer of NHS Norfolk and Waveney said: “Faster and earlier diagnosis saves lives The creation of these centres gives patients access to higher quality care that is delivered much more efficiently and the ability to get answers about their health much more quickly We are thrilled to be in a position where we can engage with local people to gain an understanding of what they would like to see in the new diagnostics centres in their communities There’s no question that patient care will be greatly enhanced from being able to deliver results faster, to ensure services such as ECGs, echocardiograms, scans and endoscopies are still able to go ahead without being impacted by emergency procedures We are confident that these new centres will help the health of our local communities improve We really want the centres to have people at the core, so we are looking forward to working with everyone from the start to deliver this exciting project ” New Diagnostic Centres Aim to Reduce NHS Waiting Times in the East of England SHERINGHAM ROOFING All aspects of Roofing Slating, Tiling, Re-Tiling & New Roofs, Flat Roofing, Leadwork, Guttering, + UPVc Fascia Works No job too big or small Contact Paul on 01263 825555 Mobile: 07974 729098 59 Priory Close, Beeston Regis, Sheringham NR26 8SL

Advantages of conditional giving Gifts which are conditional upon the beneficiary reaching a certain age may protect an inheritance, as many parents and grandparents share the view that their children would be less likely to make sensible investments with their inheritance at 18 than they might at 25

Making Gifts Conditional in a Will

www rosevillapublications co uk Cromer Times August 32022 1 Call us today 01263 www.hayesandstorr.co.uk825959

A gift attached to a less probable condition should be made with extra caution, and you should always give thought to the possibility that the condition may never happen and how you would like the gift to be distributed if the condition is not met

Many gifts made in a will simply allow the recipient of the gift to receive their money, or other assets, outright once you have died A conditional gift is one which the recipient will only receive if a certain condition is met. The condition might be contingent on the death of a beneficiary For example, if money is left to a son, daughter, or sibling, you may want to make sure that it passes to their children if they were to die Alternatively, the condition could be something which is not guaranteed You might want to leave money to a grandchild, but only if they obtain a certain qualification or attend university. You may want to leave them a car on condition that they pass their driving test. Some people leave a sum of money to a friend on condition they care for a pet Or a payment might be made to an executor as a ‘thank you’ for administering an estate

Making gifts conditional on speculative assumptions, such as making a gift conditional on a grandchild attending university can be risky, as it might be less probable that your grandchild will go to university rather than them simply living until they are 25 Trusts

Conditional gifts are often referred to as ‘contingent gifts’ as they rely on the occurrence of the specified contingency. Conditions may not be met

Many people choose to leave money to young beneficiaries only once they have reached a certain age. This might be, for example, 18, 21, 25, or any other age

A conditional gift may also be in the form of a trust It is common for couples who have children from previous relationships to include in their wills a life interest trust for each other. Typically, the ultimate aim is for the money, or assets, to pass to their own children after their partner has died. The children, therefore, are the recipients of a gift which is conditional upon the death of the partner

It remains hard to separate fact from fiction No evidence exists for Leibniz ever seeing him fly That would have been tricky because the only time he was in Italy was 27 years after the Saint’s death As to the story about the Saint trying to levitate on his deathbed, the doctor who attended made no reference to any such event

The Italian Flying Monk

By David Abbott Almost certainly you won’t have heard of St Joseph of Cupertino who lived in Italy around the time of Isaac Newton (1643 1727) I wouldn’t blame you for saying “so what?” But if I tell you he was called The Flying Monk that might cause you to pause for a moment

Hundreds of witnesses claimed to have seen him levitating and flying around Puglia with almost casual abandon. He got airborne on at least 70 occasions while offering mass or praying And without filing a single flight plan Even on his deathbed he was alleged to have made a feeble attempt to take off Now enter a fellow called Leibniz Probably the only Leibniz you know is a yummy chocolate biscuit But this man was certainly no mere snack. Gottfried Leibniz was, like his contemporary Newton, a scientist researching gravitation So curious was Leibniz in the tale of this flying holy man that it was said he made a pilgrimage to see for himself. It is claimed he witnessed one of the monk’s flights If he did, it must have puzzled him greatly because it contravenes the Newtonian laws of gravity, which definitely precludes human beings flying around unaided They should not be able to do more than make a little hop up before gravity does its worst But is all this true? Well this much we know: he did exist but didn’t exactly aspire during his early life It is said his mother often considered him a nuisance He was ham fisted, a slow learner, absent minded and had a bad temper So, not exactly the most popular kid on the block Eventually he got a job as a servant at the local Franciscan monastery There he began to change, started to pray more and eventually entered the order It was then he began to work miracles and the alleged levitations started St Joseph was canonised by Pope Clement XIII and is now the patron saint of air travelers, pilots and (yes) astronauts! A biographer once claimed he was seen “to fly into the air backwards in a kneeling position ” An early example of reverse thrust?

Like many stories there are elements of truth but intertwined some claims that Isaac Newton would have found a bit of a stretch However, it remains a good story, doesn’t it?

Letheringsett Watermill is one of only 24 water driven flour mills in the country, a rare one at that, as unlike other mills which are run as historical trusts or by local authorities, Letheringsett is one of only 3 independent mills The Mill was leased in 1987 by Michael Thurlow, Michelle’s father, with a view to restoring it back to its former glory Mike was not a miller by trade but researched the process of producing flour and, after much time, money and extensive restoration, production resumed and continues to this day Mike sadly passed away in 2013 and two years later his wife, Marion, also died, leaving their daughter Michelle to continue their work and develop the business. Michelle is passionate about continuing her parents’ legacy and keeping her flour production as local as possible She has named the new tearoom in their honour and plans to have a mural in the tearoom telling the story of the Mill’s history since it came into the family’s possession The Mill also offers tours to see how the flour is produced, milling takes place 3 or 4 times a week, depending on water levels in the river There is also Mill Antiques and Braconte on site if you fancy browsing bygones when you visit The Mill is open Mon to Sat 10am 3pm. letheringsettwatermill.co.uk 01263 713153

From Mill to Plate

Letheringsett Watermill has undergone something of a transformation recently and is now offering coffee and cake as well as producing and selling their well known flour Thurlow’s Tea Room opened its doors at Easter replacing the Village Shop which was housed in the Mill Owner Michelle along with her partner, David and staff have been working hard to convert the ground floor of the Mill into a welcome space where visitors can enjoy a coffee or tea with homemade cakes made by friend Angela from Dereham A viewing window has been installed in the tearoom where the Mill’s spur wheel can be seen working when milling is taking place. There are also tables outside where visitors can sit by the River Glaven and enjoy the view Michelle is keen to source ingredients and produce as locally as possible Grain is sourced within North Norfolk and her flour is supplied to local bakeries and shops. The Mill now produces 15 different flours David, a joiner, is in the process of installing a kitchen area where Michelle is planning to produce baked goods, made with her own flour, to other businesses in the area, including sausage rolls using pork raised on David’s farm in Bodham

Redwings Takes on World Famous Anna Sewell House

“Decades ago, the current owner ’s mother, herself an advocate for animal welfare, convinced her husband to buy the house to protect it, when a fan of Anna Sewell had proposed to dismantle it and relocate it to the US She preserved the Grade 2 listed building, which has become a place of pilgrimage for fans of Anna and her novel “We could not be more honoured to be able to look after this important building and use it to showcase Anna’s story and share how our work addresses the horse welfare challenges of today ” Black Beauty was the only book that Anna Sewell published She died shortly after the novel was released in 1877, and never witnessed its enormous success or the influence it had on changes to horse welfare in Victorian Britain. Over 100 years later, in 1984, Redwings Horse Sanctuary was established and is currently responsible for over 2,000 rescued horses, ponies, donkeys and mules across the UK, including 700 living out on permanent loan in Guardian homes Redwings will be holding an official opening on Friday 26th August and Anna Sewell House will be open to the public on days to be confirmed It will be staffed by Redwings employees and volunteers. Keep checking our website for more information about volunteering and visiting at www.redwings.org.uk

Redwings is proud to announce the charity has taken on Anna Sewell House the birthplace of the Black Beauty author in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk

The building is owned by a Redwings supporter and horse owner who approached Redwings about occupying the property The biggest horse sanctuary in the UK was founded in the county and continues to have its headquarters in Hapton, south of Norwich Gemma Walpole, Executive Director for Income and Engagement at Redwings, said: “It’s so important to the owner that the property be used in a way that’s a fitting legacy to Anna and her work to improve horse welfare, so it makes perfect sense for it to be a showcase for the work Redwings does today “Black Beauty is one of the most successful novels of all time with over 50 million copies sold worldwide and was one of the first to use an animal as a narrator Anna didn’t write the novel for children She said that her purpose was to ‘induce kindness, sympathy, and an understanding treatment of horses’

• Holiday homes represented 4.5% (2,661) of all homes (council tax homes plus holiday homes liable for business rates)

www rosevillapublications co uk Cromer Times August 32022 9

• Second and holiday homes play a significant part in generating local income and employment

• In 2019, tourism contributed £529 million to the North Norfolk district economy and provided employment for an estimated 11,898 people, around 20% of the total jobs in the district

• The Council charges 100% of Council Tax on the majority of second homes The Council has chosen not to reduce the Council Tax on second homes

• From the available evidence, it is difficult to conclude that the high number of second and holiday homes affects house prices and affordability across the district as a whole However, there may be some local effects

At the Overview & Scrutiny Committee, the CCfA Second Homes and Holiday Lets: Data Report on the possible impacts of second and holiday homes in North Norfolk was discussed Key findings included:

• Second homes represented 8.0% (4,508) of council tax homes

• The Council’s housing policies focus on the delivery of new housing and in particular affordable housing across the district. The policies include enabling work and grant funding to help affordable housing scheme viability The report also evaluated the potential population growth, the district’s age profile, median house prices in the district, the rented private sector, affordable housing, revenues and council tax, non domestic (business) rates, planning, the community and economy Steve Blatch, Chief Executive of North Norfolk District Council, said: “Issues and concerns around the number of second and holiday homes in North Norfolk are not unique Many of the National Parks, Devon and Cornwall and the Cotswolds experience similar challenges and the report helpfully details some of that context and says that as an authority, we are open minded about legislation which might be introduced through the Council Tax and planning systems to try and manage the situation moving forward ”

Second

• The district's changing demographics is the main driver of the housing market People aged 65+ made up 32% of the population, many of whom are coming to the district to retire

Cllr Wendy Fredericks, Portfolio holder for Housing and Benefits, said: “I would like to thank all of the NNDC officers who researched and put this report together It highlights some of the causes of the housing crisis here in North Norfolk The main issue is the consistent lack of investment from Central Government to deliver affordable homes for local people. As a district Council, we need money for land to build and manage affordable homes I would, however, ask if there are landowners who have land and wish to provide homes for their communities to come and talk to us ” of and Holiday Homes in North Norfolk

• The trend toward self contained holiday accommodation may be contributing to the increased numbers of second and holiday homes

• North Norfolk has the second highest proportion of second homes in England after the City of London and one of the highest in terms of total numbers

• All towns and parishes in the district have affordable homes but proportions vary There is no correlation with the number of second and holiday homes

• The report suggested neither a positive or negative impact from second homes and holiday homes in the district is clear, which is also in line with other authorities

• North Norfolk had 7,169 second and holiday homes (as of April 1, 2022)

Your own blood is taken mixed with an anticoagulant solution and spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelets from the rest of the blood These platelets are rich source of a variety of growth factors, which then stimulate your own collagen or hair follicles to grow based on what is trying to be achieved What it does not do? If you are after a quick fix for example filling out lines and wrinkles PRP does not do that instantly It improves your skin quality and collagen slowly over time It also works on acne scars but treatments take time to show results So this is not a quick fix It can help thinning hair but will not grow hair on totally bald scalp either

rejuvenation

We have been using it for last many years when patients asked for it but remained sceptical about claims being made Our patients who had the treatment however reported great satisfaction with it and we are excited about the recent studies that show noticeable results in treatment of hair loss.
