Fitness Classes

ATAC

Athletic Training and Conditioning (ATAC) is a high intensity, interval training class with intense cardio exercises in a circuit format. Each week has a different set of exercises set to fun, motivating music. On courts or outside (weather permitting).

Body Blast

Take your workout to the next level with high intensity interval training. Using a variety of

equipment each class, you will burn calories and build strength in a fun, motivating format. All fitness levels are welcome, modifications will be offered.

Box Fit

This fun, fast-paced, high energy and noncombat class introduces members to the stations of a boxer’s training regimen. Gloves and hand wraps are available for use or you may bring your own (encouraged).

Cardio Tennis

An engaging class featuring tennis drills, games, and skills delivering a full body workout. A social activity for all ability and fitness levels. No previous tennis experience necessary.

Kettlebell

A kettlebell is a cast iron weight with a handle at the top. Using this versatile piece of equipment, participants will be led through a variety of exercises to develop full body strength and cardiovascular fitness. All levels are welcome.

On the Ball

This fun and motivating class focuses on strength, cardio, balance and core training utilizing stability or ballast balls and resistance equipment. All levels are welcome.

Seniors of Steel

Build strength and increase your balance, endurance, flexibility and bone mass in this class designed specifically for active older adults. Class incorporates light weights and light cardio.

NEW! Spartan Workout

A combination of bodyweight moves, dynamic stretching and cardio-focused drills. Build stamina, improve coordination and flexibility, and burn calories as you build lean muscle with this fun and challenging workout. This class is geared towards intermediate to advanced levels.

Spin

Indoor cycling class for cardio endurance. Instructors use visual imagery and motivational music so each ride is a new adventure. All skill levels welcome. If this is your first time taking a spin class, please arrive 10 minutes before the start of class.

Step

Step is a fast-paced, fun and high intensity cardio workout. This class involves stepping up and down a rectangular platform with advanced choreography and motivational music.

Total Body Strength

Work muscle groups with a variety of strength and conditioning exercises. This athletic-based sculpting class works your upper and lower body using resistance including hand weights, body bars or body weight.

Zip Fit — 30 minutes

In 30 minutes, you’ll torch calories in this high intensity interval training class. Each week will be a varied, full body format. All levels are welcome, modifications will be offered.

Zumba

Zumba fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow dance moves for a fun, energizing workout. Routines incorporate interval training (fast and slow rhythms) to help improve cardiovascular health.

Mind and Body Classes

Alignment Based Yoga

This class focuses on correct alignment of the yoga postures and is appropriate for those new to yoga, as well as experienced yoga practitioners.

Barre

A workout technique inspired by elements of ballet, yoga and Pilates. It focuses on low-impact, high-intensity movements designed to strengthen and lengthen your body.

Sit and Fit

Designed for those members looking for a gentle class to help improve range of motion, strength, and flexibility. This is a low intensity class for those with joint or mobility limitations looking to maintain or improve functional fitness.

Gentle Yoga

A calming practice designed for older adults or those new to yoga.

Hatha Yoga

This class offers a basic introduction to yoga postures. You will move your body slowly and deliberately into poses that challenge your strength and flexibility, while focusing on relaxation and mindfulness.

Pilates

A low-impact workout to stretch, strengthen and lengthen the entire body with an emphasis on technique and core muscles. All levels are welcome.

NEW! Restorative Yoga

A passive, meditative form of yoga that allows for focus on breath while releasing tension in the body. Poses are held for extended periods of time.

NEW! Roll and Release Yoga

This practice integrates myofascial massage, gentle movement, stretching and breathwork to calm the nervous system. Find ease of body and peace of mind during this mood-enhancing class.

Roll and Renew

Increase range of motion and restore healthy movement by use of a foam roller. Myofascial massage paired with creative exercise principles assist the process.

Vinyasa Yoga

A fluid, intensive practice that links breath with movement. Recommended for intermediate to advanced levels.

Yoga Sculpt

Combining traditional yoga poses with principles of strength training.

Adult Fitness Programs

Fit and Lean 2023

Want to start off the New Year in a strong way?

Whatever your fitness goals — losing weight, gaining strength by increasing muscle, improving overall health — Fit and Lean 2023 can help you achieve your goals.

How it Works

Select your day and time to participate with a personal trainer who will coach the team through once weekly group classes and provide challenges to do independently. Check-in and baseline assessments with the InBody Composition Analyzer will be held at the start of the program. At the close of the program a final InBody assessment will determine the results.

Prizes are offered to the top two individuals who have improved their overall health. A team prize will go to the team that achieves the best overall results.

InBody Compositon Analyzer

The InBody test is a non-invasive body composition analysis providing an easy way to help you identify next steps in your fitness journey.

• Find your baseline so you know what you need to lose, gain or maintain.

• Assess your Percent Body Fat so you can focus on fat loss, not just weight loss.

• Maximize your workout routine to fit your unique health and fitness goals.

• Calculate your caloric needs to assist in making the best nutritional choices.

• Set realistic goals, accurately monitor progress and stay motivated.

• Make more educated decisions to improve your body composition.

New members receive their first scan for free during their fitness assessment. Additional scans are $25 each and can be scheduled with our certified personal trainers by calling Membership at (630) 978-6280.

Date Night with a Twist Let’s Dance Shed your sneakers for your dancing shoes and try something new! Whether you have 2 left feet or can bust-a-move, this class is for you. Learn the art of finding rhythm, moving your feet and executing lead/follow cues. Let’s build your confidence on the dance floor.

Swing/Jitterbug

Syncopated steps, spins and turns make Swing dancing exciting and fun! As an added bonus, the moves translate to Big Band, Sock Hop, Country Western and Pop dance music.

NEW! Moms on the Move

Register online for adult fitness classes

Trainers include strength, cardio, and core in a fun and socially engaging environment. Participants must bring their own stroller. Moms must be at least 6 weeks postpartum with clearance from their physician to participate in our mommy and tot classes. 7-week program.

Self-Defense Workshop for Women and Teens

This one-day workshop is designed for women and teens to teach common sense approaches to personal safety. Self-defense means both the physical act of defending yourself from attack and the precautions you can take to prevent trouble before it gets physical. The class will have a short lecture on the fundamental principles of avoid, fight, escape, followed by practicing escapes from grabs and striking targets.

Instructor Dave Carr has more than 40 years of experience instructing self-defense and a wide variety of martial arts. He is an 8th degree black belt in Seisanryu Karate.

Walking Club

Take a walk around the indoor track with us! This trainer-led program is designed to encourage physical fitness and refine walking technique in a fun social setting. We will walk outside, weather permitting. 7-week session.

Pre-teen and Teen Fitness Programs

Youth Fit Orientation

Learn the fundamentals of fitness, exercise safety and fitness center rules and etiquette. This free orientation is required for members 11 to 15 years old who want to use the fitness center. Pre-registration is required. Call (630) 978-6280 to schedule an appointment.

Strength Training Fundamentals for Teens

This class is designed as a beginner course into weight and strength training for teens ages 13 to 17. Under the guidance of a certified personal trainer, teens will learn the proper techniques to strength training to ensure both safety and effectiveness. The trainer will guide participants through a variation of light to moderate weight, dumbbell, machine, plyometric and body weight exercises. 4-week sessions.

Private Sports Conditioning

This program provides athletes or enthusiasts one-on-one sports training with a certified Healthplex personal trainer. Sessions are available for sport-specific performance, overall fitness, resistance training, cardiovascular endurance and speed and agility.

Health Specialty Programs

Movement Disorders Program

For people living with a movement disorder, exercise and physical activity can help improve symptoms and mental well-being. At RUSH Copley Healthplex, we offer a variety of free classes to help improve strength, balance, and cardiovascular fitness for those who are diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor and other movement disorders. Rock Steady Boxing

Affiliated with Rock Steady Boxing, a nonprofit that was created to help people with Parkinson’s improve their quality of life, this non-contact boxing program allows participants to “fight back” against the disease, feel comfortable and gain confidence in their abilities. This safe and engaging progressive fitness program will challenge, motivate and inspire you. Last Thursday of each month Level 3 • 3 to 3:45 p.m.

Cycle for Parkinsons

Riding an indoor stationary bicycle has been shown to reduce Parkinson’s symptoms by as much as 35%. Join for the cardiac and symptom relief health benefit, stay for the music and fun. Mondays • 1 to 1:45 p.m.

Fit 4 Life-Cardiac Rehab

Delay the Disease

This exercise class is designed specifically to help slow the progression of movement disorders symptoms. Each class is designed to improve balance, strength, stability and cardiovascular fitness.

Tuesday and Thursday Level 1 and 2 • 1 to 1:45 p.m.

Level 2 • 2 to 2:45 p.m.

Level 3 • 3 to 3:45 p.m.

Mind and Body

Mind and Body training is one of the most beneficial complementary therapies for Parkinson’s disease, helping to increase flexibility, improve posture, loosen tight, painful muscles, build (or rebuild) confidence and enhance quality of life.

Friday • 12 to 12:45 p.m.

Fit 4 Life is for eligible participants who have recently completed RUSH Copley's Cardiac Rehab program and have the ability to exercise without assistance or cardiac monitoring. Physician approval is required. Six-month program with option to join as an all-access member after the initial term. $39/month for 6 months.

Return to Activity Program

Return to Activity Programs are specialized training programs available to patients following the completion of treatment and therapy with RUSH Copley’s Hand and Upper Extremity Program. Participants will be guided by a personal trainer through safe and effective exercises, to help regain strength, mobility and range of motion required for daily and recreational activities. A referral from a Castle Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine physician is required. 6-week program includes 10 sessions for $350.

There is no better way to get in shape than to work with your own personal fitness trainer. At RUSH Copley Healthplex, our degreed and certified personal trainers will work closely with you to customize an exercise program to maximize your efforts in reaching your own specific fitness goals. With their one-on-one attention and guidance, you’ll benefit from the added motivation you may not otherwise have working out on your own.

Specialties include: strength training, flexibility training, assisted stretching, core conditioning and weight management. We also offer training for other health specific needs such as post rehabilitation, post-cardio/pulmonary rehabilitation, pre-natal or post-natal, Parkinson’s disease and chronic conditions including diabetes, hypertension and fibromyalgia.

How to Get Started

Choose your personal trainer, or ask us to help select one for you based on your goals and their areas of expertise. After you purchase your training package, we will contact you to schedule your first meeting. Single sessions or packages are available. If you wish to work with a trainer weekly, we offer a monthly subscription option. Once weekly includes four total sessions per month. Twice weekly includes eight total sessions per month.

At RUSH Copley Healthplex, we know that regular massage and body work can help release chronic muscular tension and pain, improve circulation, increase flexibility, reduce muscle fatigue and stress, promote faster healing of injured muscle tissue, improve posture and reduce blood pressure. It is a lot easier to focus on your workout when your mind isn’t worrying about your little ones. Kids Active Club is a 5,200-square-foot childcare area within RUSH Copley Healthplex that is available for our members with children from ages 6 weeks to 12 years. Our daily activities keep things fun, fresh and exciting for your child so you can work out, swim or just relax. Enclosed within Kids Active Club, we offer an Infant Care room, a climbing wall, a “Beam” interactive floor activity, scooters, games, basketball hoops and much more!

Kids Active Club

For ages 3 to 12 years

Our unique program is broken down by age, allowing us to provide age-appropriate activities that are overseen by our energetic and active childcare associates. Our goal is to not only keep your child active while you are working out, but to promote a positive fitness experience for all children enrolled in our program.

• Children may visit Kids Active Club for up to 2 hours per visit.

• Parents must remain on the Healthplex premises while their child is in Kids Active Club.

• Climbing wall is available on Saturday mornings.

• Parents can check their kids into Kids Active Club and our staff will personally transport your child to their swim lesson, tennis lesson or Club Climb. Parents need to arrive fifteen (15) minutes before the beginning of class and fill out a class transfer ticket. Personal transport is free for members. Contingent on staff availability.

• No food is allowed in the Kids Active Club at any time. Your child may bring a water bottle with their name clearly marked on it.

Infant Care Room

For ages 6 weeks to 35 months

Our bright and engaging infant/toddler room has colorful gym mats with foam blocks and other educational toys as well as a multi-seat table, crib, changing table, swings and more. The Infant Room is separate from the Kids Active Club play area so your little one is safe and the focus of our caring and nurturing staff.

Reservations for the Infant Room are required and must be made 24 hours in advance to reserve a spot. Space is limited.

• Infants may visit the infant care room for up to 2 hours per day.

• Parents must remain on the Healthplex premises while their child is in our Infant Room.

Adult Swim Lessons

Adult Beginner

Teaches breath control, floating, flutter kick, treading water, backstroke and front crawl. Upon the start of the session, swimmers must be able to put their face under water and be comfortable floating with a life vest. Private lessons are recommended for those who do not meet minimum criteria.

Adult Intermediate Classes

Teaches a more refined front crawl and backstroke while introducing elementary backstroke and breaststroke. Upon the start of the session, swimmers must be able to swim 25 yards of freestyle and backstroke. This class is not intended for those who can already swim over 100 yards freestyle continuously.

Students will coordinate the front and back crawl strokes. They will learn the elementary backstroke and treading water. Safety skills will be reinforced.

Level 1 (Youth and Teen)

Students will explore the water and learn to be comfortable in aquatic environments. They will learn front and back floats, glides and breath control. Prerequisite: Developmentally ready to participate without a parent present.

Level 2 (Youth and Teen)

Students will learn front and back crawl while becoming more confident in the water. They will learn to swim 10 yards of front crawl with rolling for air and treading water will be introduced.

Prerequisite: Submerge completely and blow bubbles. Float on front and back by themselves.

Level 3 (Youth and Teen)

Students will coordinate the front and back crawl strokes and will learn the elementary backstroke and treading water. Safety skills will be reinforced. Prerequisite: Swim 10 yards on front rolling to back for air when needed and swim confidently on back using arms and legs to propel.

Level 4 (Youth and Teen)

Students will build and improve on the front crawl, back crawl and elementary backstroke. They will be introduced to the breaststroke and sidestroke. Prerequisite: Swim front crawl, back crawl and elementary backstroke for 25 yards each and tread water for 30 seconds.

Level 5

Students will refine and improve endurance in the freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke and elementary backstroke. They will learn proper timing and technique for breaststroke and butterfly. Prerequisite: Swim 50 yards of front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, and sidestroke, as well as tread water for 2 minutes.

Level 6

Students will continue to refine all strokes to perform with more ease, efficiency, power and smoothness. They will learn flip turns and the fundamentals of personal water safety. Prerequisite: Swim all strokes well for 50 yards and tread water for 3 minutes.

Junior Stroke

Students will learn advanced swimming techniques making them more efficient and faster at the competitive strokes. This class is intended to help them prepare for higher levels of competitive swimming. Prerequisite: Swim a continuous 500 freestyle and maintain proper technique and timing for 50 yards of butterfly and breaststroke.

Red Ball (4 to 7 years old)

Players will develop agility, balance and coordination, movement patterns, forehand, backhand, serve, return, volleys, court positions and scoring. Recommend 1-2 times/week.

Red Ball Elite (Placed by Pro)

Players will develop court coverage, ability to recognize open space, prepare for Red Ball play and begin transition to Orange Ball tennis.

Orange Ball (8 to 10 years old)

60’ Court

Players will develop agility, dynamic balance, complex coordination, pace, spin and approach shot to volley and overhead patterns.

Orange Ball Elite (Placed by Pro)

Players will develop adaptive shot selection, use of angles, emerging strengths, prepare for Orange Ball play and begin transition to Green Ball.

For athletes new to the game or returning after a hiatus. Groundstrokes, volleys and serves, returns will be introduced. Ability to rally, keep score and play in singles and doubles will be a major component.

Policies

Academy 78’ Court

Players will develop the skills needed to compete at the high school, Junior Team Tennis and tournament levels. Game style, shot selection, mental strength and advance strategy, tactic and movement will be covered.

Academy Elite

78’ Court

Players selected for this group are heavily involved in USTA competition and possess rankings at district, sectional and/or national levels. These players will prepare for tournaments by developing all aspects of the game: advance technique, ball control, shot selection, footwork, mental strength, physical fitness and goal setting.

Requirements:

• Obtain coach approval

• Play 3 times per week

• Take one private tennis lesson per week

• Play in one USTA tournament per month

Tennis 101

Tennis 101 is designed to teach basic skills in a group environment. Focusing on the fundamentals of the game and stroke development, this class will help players build a solid foundation to launch their game.

Tennis 102

Tennis 102 is designed for players who have advanced from the basics but are not ready to transition into advanced instruction. The program will continue to focus on fundamentals, stroke development and tactical skills in singles and doubles.

Tennis 103

After completion of Tennis 101 and 102, test your skills against other players with organized play.

Advanced Instruction Class will focus on stroke dependability, plus ability to execute lobs, short game and court positioning.

Intermediate Instruction Class will focus on fundamentals with an emphasis on stroke development, directional control and net play.

If you’re a beginner who wants to learn a new sport for fun, or an experienced player seeking competitive play, then this is the place for you. Members may reserve up to one week in advance.

Open Play

For all players and levels who want to participate in drop-in games without having to find opponents. The perfect place to meet new pickleball friends and have fun.

Pickleball leagues are a round robin format. In the time allocated to each round robin league (2 hours) 6 games will be played, each with a different partner and against a different pair of opponents.

Beginner Pickleball League

A beginner is a player who has just started to play pickleball. They have limited experience and are continuing to learn the game as they play.
