THIS SEMESTER STARTED OUT WITH A SERIES OF TWO WEEK PROJECT. THESE TWO WEEK PROJECTS PUSHED STUDENTS TO BE MORE DEFINITIVE WITH THEIR DESIGN CHOICES, WHILE ALSO MAINTAINING ARCHITECTURAL STANDARDS WITHIN THE PRESENTATION OF EACH PROJECT. THE FINAL PROJECTS FOCUSED ON HOW STRUCTURE AND DESIGN WORK TOGETHER, AND UNDERSTANDING HOW TO BEST COMMUNICATE THE ESSENCE OF SPACE.

PROJECT 1: MEMORIAL

FOR OUR FIRST TWO WEEK PROJECT, EACH STUDIO VISITED THE LAUREL HILL CEMETARY IN PREPERATION TO DESIGN MEMORIAL TO BE SITIUATED WITHIN THE CEMETARY. THE PURPOSE OF THE MEMORIAL WAS TO REMEMBER A SIGNIFICANT EVENT THAT OCCURED IN THE PAST YEAR.

PROJECT 2: JUXTAPOSITION ASCENSION

THIS ASCENSION PROJECT WAS LOCATED ALONG THE EAST PARK CANOE HOUSE. THIS TWO WEEK PROJECT FOCUSED ON SITE INTERGRATION AND CREATING AN EXPERIENTIAL ASCENSION DESIGN THAT TOOK YOU FROM POINT A TO POINT B. THIS PROJECT CAME WITH SOME UNFORSEEN CIRCUMSTANCES, SO MY PROCESS HAD TO BE ADJUSTED TO ACCOMODATE MY NEW LIMITATIONS. I RELIED ON A LOT OF DIGITAL WORK TO EXPRESS MY DESIGN INTENTIONS.

PROJECT 3: VERTICAL ASCENSION

FOR THIS TWO WEEK PROJECT, STUDENTS WERE SPLIT INTO GROUPS TO DESIGN A NEW TOWER FOR A SPECIFIC PROGRAM REQUIREMENT. EACH GROUP HAD TO UTILIZE THE SAME PROGRAMMING,BUT THE DESIGN WAS DIFFERENT FOR EACH MEMBER.

PROJECT 4: HOUSE OF PEACE

PROJECT FOUR WAS THE OUR L ONGEST PROJECT OF THE SEMESTER. FOR THIS FIVE WEEK PROJECT,

STUDENTS WER ASKED TO DESIGN A NONDENOMINATIONAL SANCUATRY SPACES WITH ADDITIONAL MEDITATION SPACES. THE PROGRAMMING WAS INDIVIDUAL FOR EACH STUDENT, BUT HAD TO FOLLOW A BASIC REQUIREMENTS. THIS PROJECT CHALLENGED STUDENTS TO PUSH THEIR UNDERSTANDING HOW TO DESIGN WITH INTENTIONALITY. LOCATED IN THE STRAWBERRY MANSION NEIGHBORHOOD, EACH STUDENT CHOSE A SPECIFIC DEMOGRAPHIC INFLUENCED THE DIRECTION OF THEIR DESIGN.

PROJECT 5: DETAILED ENVELOPE

FOR OUR FINAL TWO WEEK PROJECT, STUDENTS WERE ASKED TO SELECT A SPECIFIC WALL OF THEIR SANCTUARY SPACE AND CREATE A DETAILED WALL SECTION. THIS ALLOWED USE TO DIVE DEEPER INTO HOW THE STRUCTURE OF OUR SPACES WOULD LOOK AND FUNCTION IF THEY WERE TO BE CONSTRUCTED. THIS PROJECT ALSO ALLOWED US TO EXPLORE HOW LIGHT AND SHADOW INTERACTED WITH OUR MATERIAL AND ENVELOPE CHOICES.
