ROYD

Experts

No one truly knows needs of consumers like the consumer themselves.

That is why, last year, we started our ROYD Experts Initiative in which we gathered a round table of tradespeople from across the industry. The key was to be able to pick the brains of people from various trades and different experience levels.

NMBS Trade Fair

In April, we hosted two more of these events, one based in Birmingham and the other based in West Sussex. Individuals from our management team, product design team and marketing team spoke directly to experts about both existing and upcoming products. With so many exciting things coming through the pipeline over the coming months, this insight is more valuable than ever for us.

Once again, we had the opportunity to attend the NMBS Trade Fair at the Coventry Building Society Arena. The Annual event provides an excellent opportunity for buyers and suppliers to network, get hands on with products and place orders. The 2024 exhibition played host to 1,080 visitors and 280 exhibitors. It saw a record breaking number of supplier and merchant interactions, reaching over 15,000.

ROYD showcased all three of our popular brands at the event. Happening in April, the event was just in time for us to be able to show off our April product releases. This included our new selection of Square Tools, Long Nib Marker and the Laser Measure.

Attendees to our stand even received an early sneak peak at some of our summer releases.

We would like to thank the organisers of the event and look forward to seeing all attendees again next year.

ROYD Culture Updates

The ROYD Culture Team are always looking for ways that the ROYD Team can give back to the community that makes our work possible. That is why they have organised several volunteering events this year and we would like to showcase a couple of the things the team has been up to.

Galleywood Volunteering Day

Our HR Manager (Cheryl Delaney), our Order Management Specialist (Christine Snazel), and our Product Design Manager (Ben Hawkins) attended a volunteering event hosted by Chelmsford City Council on the 2nd of May.

The team assisted with the cleaning up and maintenance of Galleywood Common, a 46-acre nature reserve popular with dogwalkers, hikers and cyclists, in Chelmsford. The event was hosted as part of the council’s Outside Space for Everyone Initiative. “It felt very rewarding seeing how it started to how much we had cleared and achieved by the end. It was hard work but totally worth it and I’m looking forward to doing more days like this in the future.“ - Christine Snazel

The three volunteers had a great time getting involved with the project as well as spending time in the great outdoors. The whole event was only made better by tea and cake being provided to the volunteers.

Litter Picking

Last year, the company held its first ever litter picking event. This saw a large number of volunteers from Saxon House don high vis jackets, bin liners and a litter pickers. The event was rewarding for everyone involved and so, when drawing up plans for community events earlier on this year, another litter picking afternoon was organised.

Therefore, on the 19th June, a crack team of volunteers, made up of a mixture of veterans from last year’s event and new faces, took to the streets of Chelmsford once again. Over just a few hours, we managed to collect 10 bagfuls of rubbish from around the area.

Starting out at the office at Saxon House, the team spread out throughout the area, clearing pathways, roadsides and rubbish from off the beaten track.

“Always great to give back in some way and make the streets around the area a little cleaner. Plus, it is an excellent chance to mix with members of the team I don’t always get to see.” –Robert Mallory, Marketing Director.

OPTIMAXX

ACHIEVING NET ZERO TOGETHER

The UK government has set its sights on achieving Net Zero by 2050. For those who have been partnered with us for some time will have no doubt heard us sing about our own Zero100 scheme to achieve Net Zero and carbon neutrality.

We have already made great progress towards this with a complete overhaul of product packaging across our three brands to eliminate single use plastics from the supply chain.

However, to achieve greater change, we are aware that we are going to need to encourage others to come along with us. Plus, in the same way that it is not possible for one person or group to tackle this kind of problem alone, we also need to recognise we need to change our habits in a variety of ways.

If we are to achieve NetZero, buying products with sustainable, recyclable packaging is just the start. Use of low-carbon materials such as crosslaminated timber, recycled steel and low carbon concrete needs to become standard.

OPTIMAXX

Environmentally responsible sourcing as a concept is easy to get behind, however the practicalities can be a little less appealing on the surface. When the industry is in a period of downturn, the prospect of paying more for products due to their social and environmental responsibilities may seem like an own goal. This is not the case. When out in the field, our team have interacted with everyone from national chains, independent retailers down to the end user. It is our experience that the drive for change has been customer led. Given the option, end users will pick the ethically sourced option even at a slightly increased cost. It’s also important to consider other kinds of waste generated within the industry that reaches far beyond product packaging. We are a big advocate of the circular economy and

keeping existing products and materials within the supply chain for as long as possible through repairing, recycling and more.

The construction industry generates an excessive amount of waste materials. Most of this surplus is discarded and destroyed even when there is still value left in the so-called waste. We encourage merchants and manufacturers to explore ideas such as take-back schemes for materials which may still offer some commercial value. Alternatively, encourage customers to reuse, sell on or even donate their materials. Instilling these possibilities into the consumer is key, as they are as much a part of the supply chain as retailers, suppliers and manufacturers. Some years ago, the UK government added a charge to plastic bags, encouraging the use of reusable

bags for life in retailers across the country and industries. We should all be highlighting the value of reusing products. One of the key reasons that we upgraded the Optimaxx Maxxtub from their old design was to try and change consumer habits for the better. By purchasing a reliable storage tub that customers can refill time and time again, this effectively removes the need for replacement tubs from the supply chain.

These are just a few of the many initiatives that we can all work towards to bring down our carbon emissions. The process will take time and the transition is hard to make alone, but together, we can make it seem less daunting.

NEWS AND UPDATES

Introducing the TRACER PRO Series

Introducing the TRACER PRO Series – a groundbreaking lineup of construction marking products engineered for uncompromising quality and durability. Built as a natural evolution of the widely acclaimed TRACER line, the PRO Series takes it to another level with its metal construction, ensuring maximum strength and longevity.

TRACER

TRACER PRO Series Deep Hole Marking Kit

To demonstrate the strength of the PRO Series, we have started with the reinvention of our classic Deep Hole Construction Pencil. Benefiting from the robust aluminium body unique to the PRO Series, it is perfectly constructed to meet the needs of the jobsite. The Pencil can mark up to 100mm deep in a 3mm width hole and up to 145mm deep in a 6mm width hole. In addition, it also comes with many simple built-in features to improve quality of life. For example, we understand the pain of having a pencil roll out of reach just as you are ready to mark.

That is why it the pencil comes with a subtle anti-roll feature built into the barrel of the pencil. It also comes with a comfortable holster grip for increased control while working. Small details considered when designing the Pro Series range. The holster also has an integrated sharpener too.

Debuting in a kit with a set of six 2B pencil leads in our classic anti-snap lead dispenser, the PRO Series Deep Hole Marking Kit is compatible with all of our graphite and coloured 2.8mm leads.

TRACER PRO Series Precision Pencil Kit

A unique addition to the PRO Series is the new TRACER PRO Series Precision Pencil Kit, featuring our finest construction marker yet with a set of accompanying leads. Built with the distinctive aluminium body unique to the PRO Series, the TRACER PRO Series Precision Pencil uses fine 1.3mm leads to produce a clear mark that is perfect for intricate work when ultimate precision is required. The pencil includes a textured grip for added traction and control when working and has a built-in anti-roll feature.

The kit will include a 1.3mm Precision Lead Holster complete with 24 replacement leads. The holster features a removable cap and shirt/trouser clip for safe and convenient storage on the jobsite.

TRACER PRO Series TOUGH Construction Pencil

A common request we would receive from users of our construction pencils is for harder and more durable leads. Specifically for jobs in which users are marking on particularly harsh surfaces that can easily damage or break our regular 2B graphite leads. The PRO Series TOUGH Construction Pencil combines the strength and build quality offered by the PRO Series with the durable marking of our new 5.2mm TOUGH leads.

TRACER

The result is the strongest construction pencil available on the market today. The pencil comes with a feature set that includes the anti-roll feature, textured grip and site holster with the pencil sharpener integrated into the tip. The kit comes with a set of six leads, four dark graphite and two red leads, contained within a unique new lead holster designed for our new leads.

TRACER New Leads Packs

As we begin to diversify our range of construction pencils with tougher leads and build qualities, our range of replacement lead sets needs to grow as well. That is why we have three new lead sets that will be available to order.

TRACER 5.2mm TOUGH Leads

Built for use with the TRACER PRO Series TOUGH Construction Pencil, Q3 will see the release of a new range of 5.2mm thick lead packs. These new leads are available in our standard 2B Dark Graphite or an alternative red wax-based lead which is the perfect choice when marking on darker surfaces.

TRACER 1.3mm Precision Leads

We could not debut the TRACER PRO Series Precision Pencil Kit without also providing replacement lead packs to go with it. Therefore, the 1.3mm Precision Lead set containing 24 replacement leads featuring a removable cap and shirt/trouser clip will also be available for order.

Our 5.2mm TRACER TOUGH Leads are sold in a new style lead dispenser, purpose built to provide convenient protective storage for our new lead range.
