Dear SMART employees, partners, and clients,

Welcome to another edition of DEEP CUTS, the SMART Global Newsletter. We have lots of fun news coming to you this quarter, and so we hope you enjoy reading through the latest and greatest about SMART.

We have two Meet the Team profiles; one for Joy Williams, and one for myself, Katya Soedigwan! Joy recently started his role as Videographer and I will be reaching my three-year mark later this month. Go to pages 4 and 6 to get to know us a little bit better!

SMART blades have been flying off the shelves at Bygghemma, a popular hardware chain in Sweden. Head on to page 8 to know more about it.

Last but not least, the new Drywall Blade is now available for Kiwi traders and DIYers. Read more about it on page 2.

MEET THE SMART TEAM: JOY WILLIAMS

We are delighted to introduce to you the newest member of SMART Global, Joy Williams! Joy has joined the marketing team in England and is our resident Videographer. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcasting and Production from Ravensbourne University and has accumulated over 12 years of experience in videography, where he worked on various projects ranging from corporate videos to creative short films. Before joining SMART, he worked as a freelance videographer and was a part of Connect1o1, where he honed his skills in content creation and video editing. Let’s learn more about him, shall we?

What does a normal week look like for you?

A normal week for me at SMART is quite dynamic and engaging. I spend a balance of time between meetings and working on various assignments.

I’m at the office twice a week, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, where I attend planning meetings, discuss upcoming projects, brainstorm ideas, and coordinate with my team. These meetings are essential for aligning our goals and ensuring everyone is on the same page.

The rest of the week, I work at the studio in Braintree, creating content.

My daily tasks include:

• Filming and capturing footage for different projects.

• Editing videos to ensure they meet our high-quality standards.

• Collaborating with the marketing team to align video content with our brand message.

• Reviewing and working on feedback given on video drafts.

• Organizing and managing video files and equipment.

Throughout the week, I also take time to stay updated with the latest trends and techniques in videography to continually improve my skills and bring fresh ideas to our projects.

What are some things that help you to focus on work?

Several things help me focus at work. I find that creating a structured to-do list at the beginning of each day allows me to prioritize tasks and stay organized. Listening to instrumental music or ambient sounds also helps me concentrate, especially during editing

sessions. Taking short breaks to stretch or walk around can re-energise me and improve my productivity.

I also work best at the studio in Braintree, where I have access to all the resources needed for content creation. The dedicated workspace allows me to immerse myself in the creative process without distractions.

I tend to work better in the morning when I’m most alert and focused. This is when I tackle the more challenging and detail-oriented tasks.

What are the best things about working at SMART?

In my opinion, the best things about working at SMART are the collaborative environment and the opportunity to work on diverse and exciting projects. The team at SMART is incredibly supportive and always willing to share knowledge and ideas, which fosters a great learning atmosphere.

Working at SMART helps me grow in my field by providing access to state-of-the-art equipment and cutting-edge technology. The variety of projects we work on challenges me to continuously improve my skills and adapt to new trends in videography and content creation. Additionally, the feedback and guidance from experienced colleagues enable me to refine my techniques and deliver high-quality work consistently.

We know it is important to work hard AND play hard. Outside of work, what do you like to do? What are your hobbies?

Outside of work, I believe in balancing hard work with fun and relaxation. In my free time, I enjoy exploring my creative side through photography and creative directing. Capturing beautiful moments and experimenting with visual aesthetics helps me unwind and stay inspired.

I also love spending time outdoors, whether it’s hiking, cycling, walking my dogs or just taking a leisurely walk on the beach. These activities allow me to connect with nature and recharge my energy.

Another hobby of mine is cooking. I enjoy experimenting with new recipes and flavours, which is both a creative outlet and a way to share delicious meals with family and friends. Additionally, I love reading, particularly books on personal development and fiction, as they provide both knowledge and an escape from the everyday routine.

Lastly, what’s your go-to drink for when you’re working?

DeCaf Coffee of course!

MEET THE SMART TEAM: KATYA SOEDIGWAN

Marking a full three years this June 30th, Indonesian-born and Netherlands-based Katya Soedigwan has held the vital role of Marketing Coordinator for EU and beyond. Let’s learn a bit more about her and what she does at SMART!

What does a normal week look like for you?

I’m mostly at my desk working on assignments! I have a lot of independence in my role. I tend to work on researching and reaching out to content creators that could work with our brand, creating ad campaigns and maintaining it, and other social media tasks. It’s always busier at the beginning and the end of the month, as I would be going over the advertising results and compiling the KPI, as well as making sure the ads are rolling into the next month well, making changes

if needed. I also write and compile the quarterly newsletter (yes, this one you’re reading!).

What are some things that help you to focus on work?

Perhaps this is due to graduating from university during the pandemic, but I absolutely and highly prefer working from home. Sometimes the office can get really chilly and people come in and out often, so I work and produce at my best when I am at home in a quiet and controlled environment with little to no distractions. I like to put

on a tech house playlist and get at least half of my assignments done in the morning before lunch, as that’s how I find myself to be the most productive!

What are the best things about working at SMART?

I really enjoy the level of independence and flexibility that this role gives me. I have a lot of ownership over my own work, which pushes me to be meticulous and give my all each time! Everyone is also very open to helping you if you come across an issue. Even though we communicate mostly online, I find it very easy to ask a question to my marketing teammates and I will get a response quickly.

We know it is important to work hard AND play hard. Outside of work, what do you like to do? What are your hobbies?

I love to read, write, and play video games. I read over 60 books each in 2022 and 2023, and have read over 20 books this year alone. I mostly read romance books but recently I have been loving Greek mythologyinspired novels. I really like writing fiction and aim to publish a novel in my lifetime. (Don’t ask how many works in progress I have, ha!) I play a number of video games, but my favourites include Stardew Valley, Hearthstone Battlegrounds, and Path of Exile—a good mix of genres! I also started watching ice hockey last year, specifically the NHL, since one of my best friends in Indonesia loves the sport. I quickly fell in love with it too, and I have a huge appreciation for the sport not only because of how skillful it is, but how it also brings me closer to her despite the distance and time zones.

Lastly, what’s your go-to drink for when you’re working?

Water is all I need, but if there’s a can of Coke Zero in the fridge...well... don’t mind if I do!
