RCM Keyboard Festival Programme 2022: The Spirit of Scriabin

Page 1

THE SPIRIT OF SCRIABIN

The RCM Keyboard Faculty is delighted to celebrate 150th anniversary of Alexander Scriabin’s birth, and invites you to step into a world of colour, creativity and contemporary sounds in this year’s Keyboard Festival.

We are thrilled to be able to present the programme to a live audience, and will also be streaming live to audiences around the world.

Today, we feature 60 students of a variety of nationalities, who will present repertoire based on the Silver Age and Symbolism movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Famously influenced by synaesthesia, which caused him to associate colours with the harmonic tones of the atonal scale, Scriabin used his innovative techniques to produce a wealth of acclaimed yet controversial work. Today’s festival will celebrate Scriabin’s music and link it with works by lesser-known composers. There is something for all keyboard lovers, and we look forward to showcasing the RCM’s magnificent Steinway concert grands and the Flentrop Orgelbouw organ.
