Event1wasaneveningcelebratingtheinternationalimpactand significanceoftheRoyalBotanicGardens,Kew.Theeventfeatured abrand-newcompositionbyrecentRCMCompositionforScreen graduate,KaYounYoo,titled BeyondthePlanet.Thiswas performedliveattheeventbyachamberoctetofRCMstudentsand graduates.

ThemusicwaswrittentoaccompanyascreeningofKewʼsGlobal Impactfilmatthedinner,exploringthediversebackgroundsofthe planetʼsecosystembyincorporatingvariousmusicalinfluencesfrom differentculturesintheUKandMadagascar.

Event4isaperformanceofanewconcertwork, Blackness,Structures, Exteriors,composedbyRCMgraduateLiamDoughertyincollaboration withtheOrchestredeChambreduLuxembourgandconductorNaomi Woo.Commissionedforthe2024RainyDaysFestival(LU)of contemporarymusic,theworkrepresentsthelatestiterationin Doughertyʼsseriesofworksutilisingdeconstructedpianos.Theseries emergedfromadesiretoexplorethepianoʼstreatmentasasounding object—thatis,aresonatingwoodenboxwithstrings—asopposedto aninherentlymusicalinstrument.Theworkwillbepremieredunderthe 2024festivalʼsthemeof“Extremes.”Thisprojectissupportedbythe RCMAcceleratescheme.

Promisingsoloistsandensemblesareinvitedeachtermtoperformrecitals attheRoyalAlbertHallʼsElgarRoomaspartoftheirClassicalCoffee Mornings,whichshowcaseoutstandingtalentfromtheRCM.Thisterm,the RAHhosteda“RelaxedPerformance”alongsidetheirusualmorning recitalon24November,whichfeaturedundergraduateensemble, AeolianWinds.Theperformanceinvitedadiverseaudienceandopened theElgarRoomspacewithafocusondeliveringclassicalmusicinan accessibleway.Aheadoftheperformance,thequintethadatraining sessionwitheducator,presenter,andsupportspecialist,LucyDrever,who guidedthemonprogrammingandpresentingaconcertformulti-sensory needsandthebuildingblocksofanaccessibleperformance.
