THE SOUTHERN TRANSVAAL NORTH ORANGE FREE STATE MAGAZINE
To all my STNOFS brothers and joyful readers of the STNOFSie:
I want to express my greatest gratitude to all of you who gave me the opportunity to be the editor and creator of the 2023/2024 STNOFSie editions. It was so much fun to be able to put together all our achievements, accomplishments, stories and news in one collection of magazines. This privilege have really opened up my eyes to the world of content creation and content editing, all for which I am truly grateful. When I started my term, I had no idea that I will be able to develop my skills in such a way that people will be eager and excited to read my work. Everything up to this point was just continuously playing around and trying new ideas which could be used to advertise ourselves This portfolio clearly chose me for a reason and I did my part to achieve greatness in the process of it all, or at least I believe I did It made me want to grow more and made me want to build a solid foundation for my successor I am so excited to see what new and brilliant ideas he comes up with I have complete faith in STNOFS and the incoming PRO Now it is time for the next chapter in the editing world and my Table career, and that is to create and edit the INKUNDLA Magazine for the Association of Round Table Southern Africa. It will not be an easy task, and I will have to count on all of you to help me where you can. This could not have happened if it was not for the support and courage STNOFS gave me. THANKS TO EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU OUT THERE!!!
Let us start off by thanking everyone who contributed to the 4th and final edition of the STNOFSie for my term as STNOFS PRO 2023/2024. I appreciate all the articles that was written and send through to me, so that I can get the word of our Area out there. I would also like to thank all the hidden photographers and delegates who always help me to collect photographic evidence.
At times it was not easy to gather a steady supply of articles, but I must also admit that we did shine this past term. I am very grateful and proud of our many appearances in the Inkundla. This should be recognised as a very high honour for all of us.
Now you probably have all ready figured out that the final edition of the STNOFSie looks a bit different The reason is simple We are now busy closing of the previous term, and starting the new and incoming term
The STNOFSie, if you will, represents a phenix that is reborn into a stronger being It symbolises the strong power and commitment within STNOFS and shows that we should not be taken lightly
To all the readers:
I hope you enjoy what I have been putting together for you and I hope it brings you the same of amount of joy it brought me while I wrote and created it.
The success story of Mike Menezes: Reflecting over his past term as STNOFS Area Chairman, comparing his opening and closing speech.
For my term as STNOFS AREA CHAIRMAN I want to improve the organisation with a renewed focus on camaraderie, togetherness, communication, drive, and inspiration. I am also hoping to attract new members through advertising and involvement in the community. This is a very important aspect for my term, and I would like everyone to take this seriously and to also promote it.
For me the focus and reality are the importance of going back to basics, focusing on two meetings a month, consistent dates, a clubhouse, minutes, dress codes, and decorum. Respect, communication, and problem-solving are essential for maintaining a positive and cohesive group dynamic.
Small gestures, such as showing appreciation, wishing each other happy birthdays, and promoting camaraderie, will go a long way in building a stronger and more unified group. By working together, we could improve our public image and attract new members, donors, and friends of the table We should aim to grow together and become proud of what we are
The Council is solid and committed to achieving the goals of the organisation It is important to be accountable and transparent to ensure success You may have heard me say that the council is new and young, but as I pointed out, they are hungry and eager to grow and improve together with everyone
Although I as Area Chairman do not have a formal 2/3 year plan, members learn from their predecessors and strive to adopt, adapt, and improve upon past successes. I am going to do my absolute best to make sure that we achieve our goals and grow to be more successful. I am a human and I am not perfect, and I must admit it is hard to sum yourself up in a list, but I can acknowledges my weaknesses, including administrative tasks, time management, and patience. I do admit that I have a lot on my plate and that things sometime run away from me. However, I could also recognise my strengths, including leadership, fearlessness, compassion, and the ability to act. I am street smart and made it with distinction. I will always make a plan to make sure things work and operate effectively.
The Association of Round Tables of Southern Africa STNOFS Area and Vereeniging van Tafelrondes van Suidelike Afrika STNOVS Area is committed to improving its organisation through a renewed focus on tradition, communication, and community involvement The organisation is excited about its future and looks forward to achieving its goals with the support of its members and the community
Yours in Table
Mike Menezes
Reflecting on my Year as the STNOFS Area Chairman 23/24
In the realm of Tabling, milestones aren't just about numbers; they symbolise collective dedication and perseverance. As I, Mike Menezes, Tabler at Round Table Potch 47 and Area Chairman of STNOFS Area for 2023/2024, reflect on the past year, I am filled with pride and gratitude for the remarkable journey we've undertaken together. Two of the most notable achievements of our Area this year has been, 1, the unprecedented fundraising success. It is with great pleasure that I announce that our area has raised in excess of over 1 million Rand. The highest figure we have achieved since my Tabling days begun... This figure is not merely a testament to our dedication to Tabling but stands as a testament to the unwavering commitment and concerted effort of every member, despite facing the challenge of the lowest member count in years or probably ever! And Secondly the absolute Unity, Matureness and Accountabilty we have shown, I have seen Boys, become MEN And for this we should all be very proud
I must extend my sincerest gratitude to my council members for their exceptional leadership and unwavering support Their dedication and willingness to step up as champions have played a pivotal role in our area's accomplishments Additionally, I cannot overlook the invaluable support received from my Table, Potch 47 Their steadfast support has helped me to push to the values of Round Table and was a driving force behind me for pushing for success and Unity that I think we have achieved in our Area I also want to commend all the Tablers in the STNOFS Area for their professionalism and dedication to upholding the principles of the Rondel Your exemplary conduct serves as a source of inspiration and sets a high standard for Tablers in the years to follow. Whilst having fun and fellowship with our fellow Tablers and friends, Decorum was always excellent!
As I prepare to end my role as Area Chairman and as a Tabler, I do so with full confidence in the capable hands of the incoming Area Chairman, Riaan Greyling, and his council. I urge all members to extend their support and cooperation to ensure a seamless transition and continued success for our area. Riaan is an outstanding leader, and I cannot wait to see our Area boom in success!
Looking ahead, I am filled with optimism for the future of the STNOFS Area. By staying true to our core values and fostering a culture of collaboration and inclusivity, I am confident that STNOFS will continue to thrive and achieve even greater heights.
In conclusion, I want to express my gratitude to each and every member of the STNOFS Area for your dedication, hard work, and unwavering support throughout the year. It has been an Honor and a Privilege to serve as your Area Chairman, and I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together. As I step down from my role of Area Chairman and as a Tabler, I do so with my head held high, knowing that the STNOFS Area is in good hands and that our best days are yet to come
Here's to a bright and prosperous future for the STNOFS Area! Daar kak n haas
As I step into the role of Area Chairman for STNOFS, I am reminded of the fundamental choice we face in life – to embrace the essence of being a Tabler or to settle for the mundane and ordinary. This pivotal decision not only shapes our personal journey but also influences the impact we leave on the world around us.
The Tabler Mindset:
At the heart of the Tabler mindset lies a commitment to bringing substantial value to every aspect of life Whether it's in the workplace, relationships, or personal growth, Tablers actively seek opportunities to innovate, collaborate, and stand out Challenges are viewed as stepping stones for growth, and Tablers approach them with proactive energy, stepping outside their comfort zones to lead projects, propose ideas, and inspire positive change
The Average Mindset:
In contrast, the Average mindset embraces complacency and resists change Content with the minimum, those who choose this path limit their potential for personal and professional growth Creativity is little, opportunities are missed, and a false sense of security takes root, leading to a life with minimal direction or fulfilment and meaningful impact
The Professional Impact:
For Tablers, the pursuit of excellence extends into their professional lives. They eagerly take on additional responsibilities, seek leadership roles, and actively contribute to team success. This proactive approach not only leads to career advancement but also fosters personal satisfaction and a sense of purpose. Conversely, those who settle for average may find themselves trapped in a cycle of stagnation, with limited opportunities for growth and fulfilment.
The Relationship Dynamics:
The choice between being a Tabler and being average extends beyond the workplace and into our relationships. Tablers invest in meaningful connections, engaging in open communication and contributing to the growth of those around them. In contrast, choosing to be average may result in complacency, neglect, and a lack of effort, ultimately leading to strained relationships and missed opportunities for connection and growth.
Personal Fulfilment:
Ultimately, the decision to embrace the Tabler mindset is a deeply personal one, with far-reaching implications for every aspect of life. While it requires effort, initiative, and a willingness to take risks, the rewards are immeasurable. Personal fulfilment, professional success, and vibrant, meaningful relationships await those who dare to be extraordinary
In Conclusion:
As we embark on this journey together, let us remember the power of choice and the transformative impact of embracing the Tabler mindset By actively seeking excellence, pushing past our comfort zones, and striving to make a positive impact, we not only elevate ourselves but also inspire those around us to do the same As your incoming Area Chairman, I am committed to fostering a culture of excellence within our Area, where each Tabler is empowered to bring their best selves to the table and create lasting, meaningful change in our communities and beyond Together, let us choose greatness, let us choose to be Tablers

Round Table Carletonville 50 has once again made headlines with their recent adventure to the Fishing Boogie hosted by Round Table Windhoek34 in Namibia What's the buzz, you ask? Well, for the first time, attendees showed up on a Saturday – and who else but the ever-enthusiastic and thirsty members of Carletonville 50 led the charge, proving the doubters wrong yet again!
Touching down in Windhoek, we were greeted with the kind of warmth and hospitality that instantly made us feel like family. Meeting people we'd never met before, yet forming instant connections that felt like reuniting with long-lost friends, it is a testament to the magic of Round Table camaraderie.
The journey from Windhoek to Swakopmund was nothing short of spectacular. As we drove through the stunning landscapes, each bend in the road revealed a new wonder, reminding us of the inherent beauty of our continent. The 4x4 dune trip was a highlight, offering amazing views of the desert's vastness, with Toyota's trusty Hilux leading the way –because let's face it, when it comes to off-road adventures, nothing beats a Hilux!
But let's talk about the main event – the fishing! Guided by experts and surrounded by the pristine waters of Namibia, every moment spent fishing felt like something out of a dream. From catching impressive fish to sharing stories with fellow anglers, the experience was nothing short of thrilling
Amidst the crowd of Round Table leaders, including association presidents, area chairmen, 41’ers, and both experienced and new tablers, we felt truly lucky to be in such esteemed company The sense of friendship and mutual respect that filled the event reminded us of the values that bring us together as Round Tablers
As we said goodbye to Namibia and the memories we've made, one thing is clear – the Fishing Boogie was more than just an event; it was an unforgettable journey filled with laughter, friendship, and the kind of shared experiences that bind us together as members of the Round Table family

The Sabie Tube Race is one of the most highly anticipated events that take place on the Round Table calendar, and this year was no exception. This event is hosted and organized by RT Whiteriver and the help of all the other Mpumalanga Area Tables.
It took place from the 2nd of February 2024 to the 4th of February 2024, at the Merry Pebbles Resort on the Sabie River. The weekend attendance reached figures of approximately 2 500 people taking part in this event.
The event is split into two sections. First off, the reason for the event, is to travel with an inflatable tube down the Sabie River for almost 9km which takes about four hours to complete through reeds and branches in cold water. Secondly will off course be the concert and festival that is divided up between the two nights
Now, we can go into all the details about the ride down the river How much fun you are having with all your friends, and new friends you made on your voyage Or discuss the proper way to go over the riverbanks without you accidentally hitting a rock or branch slightly submersed under the water We can even tell stories on how “easy” it will be to stay hydrated and having a special raft for all your “water” supplies
But we went for a more different approach Now knowing that the next ARTSA will be in the South Cape Area, it should then also be known that the 2025 ARTSA will take place in the STNOFS Area That was our target, to use Sabie Tube Race as a practice round for promotional work and advertising.
The plan was simple really. All we had to do was bring up the subject in a casual way, and the rest would basically sort itself out. We also used this opportunity to scout the setup of the event and determine how the organizers structured themselves to prevent hiccups. We obviously had to decorate the entire camp site with promotional stickers.
A pull quote is an impactful quote taken from the article. You can place the quote you want to highlight here.
All in all, the weekend was a success. We had much fun as a group, and we got the word out there. It was a busy weekend, but the conversations were timeless. New friends were made, and old friends were eager to catch up.
Sabie Tube Race = Completed
South Cape ARTSA = Upcoming
Although the event started on Friday the 29th of September at 16h00, the planning for this monster came much earlier in the timeline The members from the STNOFS area have been working on this for almost three months Not physically working every single day but planning and arranging along with registrations and regalia. Not to mention all the stress that came with to ensure that this weekend would be an absolute success without any hiccups.
So Friday rolled in, and all was still busy organising last-minute arrangements and putting on final touches. The first to arrive was the Executive Council of ARTSA at sharply 12h25 They however did not start the Tri weekend until 21h00 Reason being is, was that they used the opportunity to have their meeting at the clubhouse of Round Table Potchefstroom 47 right next door They were catered to and left alone to sort out all that was needed to sort out and doing reports on highly topsecret portfolios which would just go over the heads of the party Tabler
For the rest of the attendees, the registration table opened at 16h00 and the shooter bar next to registration opened at 15h00, because who does not love an early afternoon cold Jägermeister. Soon the Potchefstroom Rugby Club was filling up and members and friends started to mingle and relax that the week was finally done. The members of STNOFS were always seen around running or helping wherever they could and made sure that all the guests were entertained and happy. Registration was done in a swift manner and drink were readily available and cold Food was prepared right in front of everyone, to build on the inclusivity of the event and the aromas of lamb chops quickly filled up the air as people were enjoying themselves While this was going on, there was also live music to appreciate as one of the Tabler’s from Vereeniging 20 entertained us with his voice and readiness of the guitar Rugby was being played on both tv’s and the atmosphere of a proper party was ready to rock and roll As people felt hungry, mostly forced by the wife that they should eat and that the kids are hungry, were ushered into the back where a mountain of food was prepared and available to dish up Then the party took a quick shift to fourth gear when the Executive Council arrived Welcoming began again and greetings were made to those who were early but kept till late. Drinks over here, drinks over there, conversations with travellers from far, conversations from travellers from near. It was lively and fun for everyone because there were no problems on the horizon and there was comradery and fellowship present.
It became Saturday morning, and the speed and energy was building We all knew the bar closes at 02h00 and ESKOM as well. The rush to get last round and to cash in tickets followed Members took what they could carry and went outside to make sure they did not stop or be affected by a closed and dark bar The STNOFS gents were also present but, in the background, as they tidied up the place and started to lock up what they could Soon they were done with the admin of it all an joined the outside afterparty by moon light From what is told, everyone left the premises at roughly 03h15
Saturday morning came again, this time with headaches from eating too much good food and hydrating too less. The Elgro Hotel was in a buzz as people made their way to the breakfast area and preparing for day two of this marvellous event. Everyone made it to the welcoming hall on time with a couple of exceptions that were a bit late but was understandable because Potchefstroom is so big one might get lost or misjudge getting from the rooms to the hall which can take time
President Louis Radley gave a warm welcoming along with STNOFS Area Chairman Mike Menezes Involving the Northen Cape and Free State Area Chairmen to do a prayer and Aims & Objectives. Following these matters were speeches, inductions of new members and awards to those present at the venue. The ladies departed on their tour and was put to the test of escaping a room with various puzzles and clues to get out The gents remained to do reports and listing to candidates who are running for Executive Portfolios
Members then disembarked to separate halls to have their area meetings and things calmed down for a bit The proceeding was short for some and long for others, especially STNOFS who were busy till almost 15h00 The Executive council and visiting areas made their way through the three meetings and gained valuable insight on how each of them operated withing their area Lunch was served straight afterwards, and some needed it more than others Then it was sleepy time and break time as there was about four hours to kill before the night’saffairs started For the guys from STNOFS, this was not an option They were still active and prepared and arranged that they had to as the night came closer. Managing the registrations once again and collecting regalia to dish out as well The place also needed to be cleaned and organised for what was to come that same night.
With darkness upon us the party started up once again, this time for a pool party at the ElgroHotel. Members rocked up from their holes and was looking smart in their area or table regalia Comradery and fellowship were once again present, and an overall good vibe was in full spirit. Conversations were made and memories was shared and being made, all in spirit of a good, solid Table weekend Another nice highlight of the event was the auction that took place to help raise funds for a child diagnosed with leukaemia and a whopping R 70 000 was raised in the process WELL DONE!!!
The party continued and food was being served again in a private and beautiful separate area and one by one people filled their bodies to gain energy and strength Live music filled the air once again as Zander played the final night of his Central Tri Area tour as people danced and sang along with him Fires were burning not just for display, but also in the hearts of everyone there as the took in everything that was available to take in The view alone could not be described with words and the overall experience even less so
Sunday morning played into the previous night and members were still going strong, not giving way to the long roads that laid ahead or the tiredness of their bodies. When the bar finally closed, it was time to hit the town and continue this high Reports came in that the Hotel had to keep the front door unlocked as people came back from roughly 03h00 to 05h00, telling you that the party did in fact had to stay alive
This is merely a reflection of the weekend, and a lot might be left out, but the rundown of the weekend is clear Everybody had fun, everybody enjoyed themselves and everybody will remember this event for a long time I want to tank all those who travelled so far to join and attended, and I want to thank everybody who helped pout even more Without both parties, none of this would have been possible and for that I want to give you all a round of applause
Let us keep on pushing and building on this wonderful organization and let us be thankful for being apart of it We need to realize that being a Tabler or a Leg of Table is a privilege, and we should all stive for our own greatness and success, within Table and within our lives back home For now this is goodbye, but be rest assured we will all see each other again for the Central Tri Area in 2024, hosted by the Northen Cape
On Saturday the 27th of January 2023, STNOFS Area held its 3rd Council Meeting for the term 23/24 in Stilfontein at the Lost Treasure.
The day started off with a massive success as the gents decided to keep our tradition of a swanniebraai alive. Now to give a bit of depth on this tradition for those who don’t know what this entails… Basically the idea is that whenever there is a STNOFS Area event, the people/members attending have a small braai next to the road and have a 30min pitstop while having a small snack and drink. This tradition comes a long way and always seem to be fun while hyping everyone up beforehand.
This however was one for the books. The day prior, I had an epiphany to extend the invitation to all those attending the council meeting, to stop for the sawnnie braai. The guys did not disappoint, some even drove past the venue just to be a part of it and to join the meeting as a collective STNOFS unit Except for the hosting table and 3 other attendees, the rest of us were all there, next to the road, having a braai with a cold one, and building for what laid ahead 10km down the road
Now for the meeting itself This too was held and executed perfectly The venue was spacious and very neat, allowing all of us to enjoy the formalities and business aspects Like I mentioned before, the turnout was wonderful, and one could see the power of STNOFS We also were honored with the rare sighting of our lovely 41ers, who appreciated the day with us
Further exciting and thrilling moments of the day was obviously the campaign for the position of STNOFS Area ViceChairman The candidates include Adrian Infeilth & Jacques Moolman from RT Vereeniging 20 and RT Matlosane 45 Both these candidates deliver a wonderful report, and we wish them all the best for the election, scheduled to take place at the STNOFS AGM.
In my opinion it is wonderful to see so many campaigns for the coming year. Regardless of if it occurs on Club Level or ASSCO Level, it shows the passion and commitment from these individuals who want to show their dedication and willingness to the cause. It highlights the power within our shared organization that we all stive to go forward and to seek perf i d
Thi nd will boost the excitement within all of us. I for one am looking forw
Thursday the 18th of January 2024 marked the anniversary of RT47 along with the 68th AGM that would take place at the Willows Garden Hotel, on the outskirts of Potchefstroom The buildup to the event was clearly a long wait, as many of our members were enjoying a lovely December Holiday That allowed for some excitement in the beginning of January 2024 for the long-awaited AGM
Now for RT47 POTCH, this is a very special evening. It could almost be considered as the highlight of the year. The fact that we get together for the first time in that year to celebrate the birth, close of the previous year, and start the new year fresh and eager, is truly amazing.
Now with all of us dressed to the nines, the night started at 18h30 with a welcoming Whiskey and the sunset behind us. It was great to see everyone again after a long break, and even better to bet right back into Table. With the meeting finally on its way, the night went along as one could plan. Perfect! The reports and delivering of the reports were all in good order and effective. The food was delicious, and the drinks were kept full at a steady pace.
This was also the time of the night where we gave some glory and fame to some of the members, by handing out some nice trophies. The hype was clearly there, and we did not hesitate. Hannes won the Tabler of the Year award, Myself shared the IRO award with Mike. Divan received praise with the Comradery award and all the travels he embarks on. JP and Hannes shared the award for forming a lasting click, and JP finished with the Spirit award also.
It remains a special tradition and moment for many. The chance to be recognized and appreciated will always help you grow within yourself. This also contributes to the friendly bantering that will continue for the rest of the year.
Now with all those activities handed of, the night took a parking space in the serious division The election of the new incoming council for RT47 Potchefstroom for the term 2024 / 2025 With proposals made on the last business meeting of 2023, the proceedings went quite quickly
Immediate Past Chairman and Constitutional Advisor – Christo Du Plessis
Secretary – Hannes Lourens
Treasurer – Jean-Paul Olivier
Vice-Chairman – Divan Kotze
Chairman of Round Table 47 Potchefstroom 24/25 – Wouter Dreyer
Congratulations to these fine men, we do believe that you will have an excellent term and that the rest of your council and table members will support you fully. With that said, it pretty much sums up the 68th AGM of RT47 POTCH. Now we focus on the coming year and start to plan for the big old 70th.
On Tuesday the 20th of February 2024, some of the guys of Round Table Potchefstroom 47 got their passports stamped. By saying this, I am referring to the raid that took place between RT47 Potchefstroom, Rotary Mooi and the International Police Association of Northwest.
This meeting was the perfect platform for different clubs, with similar aims and objectives, to come together to discuss the wellbeing of the community and the town. It allows for all of us to get a better understanding of what is happening within our organisations and prevents double booking for events and projects.
The other positive it holds in for all of us, is the guarantee that the other organisations will show their support on these respective events and projects It also plays a critical role in those who we can then help from these projects
Furthermore, it remains fun to go and raid or visit somewhere out of your comfort zone You are presented with people like you and make new friends quickly You grow your network, and you learn new things
Thank you to all those who were present and thanks to Rotary Mooi for opening their home for us.
YOURS IN TABLE
WOUTER DREYER
On the 15th of December 2023, Potchefstroom 47 once again did another edition of Wish Week. This project entails helping those in need through making some of their wishes true.
During the last couple of Months of 2023, we shared and advertised the project we are running, and the results were quite impressive. We received 35 wishes from people in the community who were in desperate need.
So, when the day arrived, all the shopping was done, and all the parcels were loaded into the delivery vehicle we commandeered. Myself, along with JP, Hannes, Andries and Mike, set off into town to start with our wish week delivery route. This project usually takes a toll on you, in the sense seeing all that goes on around you when you might not sometime be aware of everything You get to deal with a lot of pain and sorrow and are a part of so many lives However, you also have the benefit of helping someone in their hour of need and feel grateful for what you have That is the beauty of this project
The day continued to be a great success We had fun on the project while we drove through town and enjoyed the company of each other. It was a time for us also to become closer to one another and became a better dynamic.
When the sun sat later the day, we were relieved and happy with the work we did. We could say with pride and passion that we made a positive impact on 35 people of the community.
This just once again shows you the commitment and dedication from the guys of Round Table Potchefstroom 47. Well done to all those who contributed.
On Friday the 08th of December, Potchefstroom 47 Round Table hosted a Christmas dinner for all the people who make use of their bus project throughout the year.
To give a quick overview, the bus project entails members of RT47 driving the elderly to and from town on the first Thursday of each month. These people are very grateful and very depended on these trips as they do not always have anyone helping them or other means of transportation.
So, by keeping with tradition, the gents made sure that the 2023 Christmas Dinner would also be a massive success. The morning of that Friday was however a bit rough as the previous night was meeting night, but nevertheless the boys were all eager to make sure all was clean and tidy and ready for our elderly family.
Soon it was time to get the party started and I set off to collect the party guest with the bus With all 30 of them loaded, we made our way back to the RT47 clubhouse in the most heat full of conditions Upon arrival the place looked beautiful! There were places set around our Table for everyone, the room was filled with festive decorations that just screamed Christmas and the sound of Boney M filled the air
Our guest was met with friendly faces and ice-cold mimosas, which they seemed to enjoy way too much, while we set out to prepare the fires for the delicious food. We went around the table, as per normal tradition, to determine how long some of these people were using our bus service. It was heartwarming to hear that some of these aunties have been driving with RT47 for 23 years and was amazing to acknowledge that this tradition has been kept alive for so long.
After we blessed the food and the table with all these lovely faces, the food was served, and we all played our parts of waiters very well. Smiles filled up quickly and laughter and voices grew dim as they enjoyed the feast in front of them. This was our Q to start with speeches and to make sure they would pay attention. To some of their shock, we gave them praise and gratitude for being a part of our lives. What they might not always know is that they play just as an important role in our live, as we do to them
This followed with desert and Christmas goodie bags all around, and another round of mimosas before their afternoon nap, to close the deal on this special day Now with their bellies full, smiles in overdrive, good spirts in their harts and sugared up, it was time to head home again Driving back along the streets of Potchefstroom, compliments and good stories were already starting You could hear in their voices that this was truly special ad that they enjoyed it.
To sum up the whole day… It was amazing! It was a true privilege and honor to host these lovely people and I would gladly host them again.
On Thursday the 30th of Movember, the last day of the Bro Month, we had a super nice and heartfelt social event to raise awareness of Men’s Mental Health
We spoke about serious matters that all men struggle with or might not even know they struggle with Arising matters included the seriousness of prostate cancer, testicular cancer, depression, suicidal thoughts and even PDS for some of the older attendees It was insightful to talk about these matters and to hear stories of people who have experienced it firsthand or know of people who struggle with these matters. One saying that continuously came up was the fact thatwe need to talk about it. With this I agreed 100%. However, we don’t always feel comfortable talking about these serious matters and I do believe we can change this. For starters, just by having these events we are already making process. We are always hearing we need to break the stigma, but it is sometimes easier said than done.
Cowboys don’t cry… Time to change it to Cowboy’s talk and sometimes do cry. We are only human after all…
Soon after the meeting I saw this new phrase acting Hearing people talk and reaching out to go for tests or to start their own buddy system to break the silence and open to one another Already we are making process and that is something to recon with The rest of the night went on with great success as well We had fun around the fire as we cooked up a storm of chicken quarters, wors and garlic breads. A proper feast was enjoyed, and comradery was overflowing. The boys were also put to the test on their knowledge of beers, and a blind ten beer tasting challenge went on its way.
To my surprise, it was more difficult than what I have intended, and the best score was 5/10.
In complete honesty, I do believe that this night was a necessity. Simply for the fact of it not being about Round Table, but rather on us, as men. To forget for a while that we are always chasing something we can’t always control and just to focus on ourselves.
I would recommend continuing with these types of nights and to do them more often than just once a year We do matter and our stories and problems need to be shared Just to listen to the stories and to support each other
Things at the Potchefstroom 47 Clubhouse were not all moonlight and roses the past three months. We have had experienced a lot of disasters and mishaps that were not planned for…
To start at the beginning, and to go into every single detail of the sorrow we had might take a lot of time, so I would rather write the summary of the events and elaborate on how we planned and acted out the solution
From mid-October 2023 to January 2024, we as RT47 experienced several break-ins totaling at 9 different attempts We have lost some personal items, which we are very sad for along with other pieces of regalia and inventory usually used at the bar area of the clubhouse There were also quite some damages to the physical structure made that needed urgent attention
So, now here I am writing a piece of the aftermath of this last quarter. With some effort and more than one or two phone calls, we did manage to restore some of weaknesses, and we have an open mind and positive attitude going forward.
Starting off with the basics, we welded over all the damaged metal burglar proofing and added extra support to the frames of the burglar proofing, by welding long lengths of 3mm flat bar over all the windows. This was luckily done by a past Round Table member, and we managed to sort this issue out quite quickly. We are truly grateful for this and appreciate his work.
Then the next step was to replace some of the broken windows, and to also build close certain parts where they broke out the entire window frames. This was done much quicker, and we got this closedin a day with some more help from the community
Now since we are still feeling a bit worried and concerned, we thought it good to make this clubhouse like a prison No movement on the inside or the outside We installed additional motion detection beams on the inside of the premises along with sensors on the doors and windows
Then we added outside motion detection beams for around the clubhouse which could be armed and disarmed via a smartphone
Thinking of all the work and construction that went into the improvements to security did cause for a bit of a mess This of course forced us to do an additional cleaning, and I am talking CLEANING, to ensure we are set off properly for the year to come. It took about an entire Sunday and couple of after work weekdays to get this matter resolved. Going through every inch of the place, sorting and organizing what once was just piles of stuff/items.
Looking back over all these things, I can’t help but feel bitter-sweet. Yes, on the one hand it was a lot of work and time we had to invest in bringing the clubhouse back to standards. Yes, we did manage to bond as a group while doing these activities and investing our time. But it still does not sit right that we also lost some of our history and stories. Although it could be seen as a physical attachment, our hearts were also involved with those items lost.
Still, we stood up after falling and we are committed to push harder than ever before I feel grateful for my team and for those individuals in the community who assisted us All this work could not have been possible without them, and for that I am truly grateful
In our tight-knit group, a simple wooden spoon has transformed into a symbol of shared joy, delectable feasts, and cherished memories. Aptly named “The Spoon,” this culinary artefact has become the cornerstone of our annual family bonding experience
The tradition is straightforward yet heart-warming
Throughout the year, The Spoon is passed among members, and when it graces your kitchen, the responsibility is to host a dinner for the entire group
This ritual not only celebrates food but strengthens the bonds that tie our unique community together
My tenure with The Spoon was a prolonged one, interrupted by the whirlwind of planning and executing my wedding. The wooden utensil patiently awaited its return to the kitchen, and when the moment finally arrived, it marked the beginning of an unforgettable culinary adventure.
Despite the warm December weather, we decided to open the swimming pool, creating a festive atmosphere for the occasion. A braai added sizzle to the celebration, the aroma of grilling meats mingling with laughter and camaraderie.
As I took my turn orchestrating the culinary symphony, I realized the profound joy of creating a meal not just for oneself but for those you hold dear. The Spoon’s magic lies not only in its wooden structure but in the way it binds us together through shared meals and the spirit of generosity
Passing The Spoon to Ryno, I eagerly await the culinary surprises he will unfold for our group This humble utensil has taught us that in the simplicity of a shared meal, we find the ingredients for lasting friendships and unforgettable moments Here’s to The Spoon, the unassuming hero of our culinary escapades, and the countless stories it continues to stir in our lives.
WRITTEN BY: RUSSLE HUMANRyno Kruger took the helm of Matlosane 45's Spoon tradition for 2024, and what a splash he made! The theme? A pool party that turned into a day of unbridled fun, laughter, and a few unexpected spills.
As we gathered at Ryno's place, excitement buzzed in the air The central attraction? A colossal water slide that promised an afternoon reminiscent of carefree childhood days And boy, did we embrace it with the enthusiasm of kids let loose in a candy store
The slip and slide action kicked off, and soon enough, grown men were sliding down with the kind of abandon you'd expect from a bunch of teenagers It didn't take long for the first few mishaps, but hey, what's a pool party without a bit of adventure and a few laughs at the expense of some spectacular wipeouts?
As we dried off and caught our breath, the aroma of delicious food wafted through the air. Ryno, true to the Spoon tradition, had prepared a feast that mirrored the joy of the day. From grilled delights to savory sides, the spread was as diverse as the members of Matlosane 45.
The fellowship around the table was as vibrant as the colours of the pool toys. Amidst bites of mouthwateringdishes, we shared stories, jokes, and the kind of camaraderie that defines the essence of Matlosane 45. It was a day that not only filled our bellies but also rejuvenated our spirits for the adventures that lie ahead in the year
As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow on a day well spent, we left Ryno's place with full stomachs, hearts brimming with laughter, and a shared resolve to face the challenges of the upcoming year as a united and spirited brotherhood Here's to the Spoon, to Ryno, and to the countless more moments of joy awaiting Matlosane 45 in 2024!

In a whirlwind of creativity and camaraderie, the annual North West School of Design (NWSOD) event took an exhilarating turn as our dedicated team 45 orchestrated a bar takeover for over 800 attendees. The mission was clear: not only to shake up a night of fun but also to raise funds for our upcoming charity endeavours and set the stage for the exciting plans on our horizon.
The challenge of running our own bar was met with enthusiasm and a shared sense of purpose. From mixing drinks to managing the crowd, each team member played a crucial role in transforming the event into a bustling hub of activity The NWSOD bar became more than just a place to grab a drink; it became a testament to our ability to thrive in highpressure situations and bring joy to others
As we worked hard behind the bar, there was also a chance for some of us to take a breather and appreciate the designs and models that adorned the venue It was a reminder that amidst the hustle, the essence of design and aesthetic appreciation remained an integral part of who we are
The success of our bar takeover wasn’t just measured in funds raised; it was a showcase of our collective strength and the capacity to work seamlessly as a team. The lively atmosphere, punctuated by the clinking of glasses and the hum of laughter, spoke volumes about our ability to keep others happy while successfully managing a high-pressure situation.
The night was a blast, not only because we poured drinks and raised funds but because it demonstrated the synergy within the NWSOD community. It was a celebration of our ability to turn challenges into opportunities for success. The funds raised during our bar takeover now stand as a foundation for the impactful charity work we have planned for the upcoming year.
As the last cocktail was served and the bar lights dimmed, the echoes of our success reverberated through the NWSOD community. The annual event became more than just a gathering; it became a showcase of our spirit, resilience, and the boundless possibilities that arise when a group of creative individuals comes together with a common goal. Here’s to pouring success and looking forward to the exciting journey that lies ahead at NWSOD!

In a spirit of camaraderie and tradition, Matlosane 45 embarked on a memorable raid to Potchefstroom 47, and at the heart of our mission was the much-anticipated handover of the Sasol Bokkie
The atmosphere was charged with both nostalgia and anticipation as we gathered in Potchefstroom The familiar faces of Potch 47 welcomed us, and it was particularly heartening to witness Wouter, affectionately known as "Dik Trill," presiding over the meeting with his characteristic flair and humor.
The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the official transfer of the Sasol Bokkie. Round Table South Africa, a dynamic and vibrant organisation, has been a cornerstone of community service and personal growth for countless individuals over the years. As a former Area Chairman who served with dedication for a decade, I had the privilege of witnessing and experiencing firsthand the remarkable friendships and camaraderie that this organisation fosters. In this article, we'll explore how Round Table South Africa not only shapes young leaders but also creates bonds that last a lifetime.
Round Table South Africa is part of a global network of organisations dedicated to community service, personal development, and friendship. Founded in 1927, Round Table has evolved into a well-respected and influential organisation with a presence in over 60 countries worldwide. The South African chapter, like its counterparts around the world, is committed to building lasting friendships and making a positive impact on local communities.
One of the most remarkable aspects of Round Table South Africa is the unique way in which friendships are formed. Through shared experiences and a common commitment to service, members quickly become more than just fellow volunteers they become brothers As I reflect on my tenure as Area Chairman, I can't help but remember the countless projects, events, and initiatives that brought us together
Whether it was organizing fundraisers for local charities, participating in community clean-up efforts, or hosting social events, the sense of camaraderie was ever- present These shared experiences created a strong bond among members, transcending the boundaries of age, background, and profession Friendships that began with a common passion for community service grew into something much deeper a sense of belonging to a tight-knit family
Round Table South Africa isn't just about service and friendship; it's also a platform for personal growth and leadership development Through various roles within the organisation, including mine as Area Chairman, members have the opportunity to develop essential leadership skills, such as communication, organisation, and decision-making. These skills not only benefit Round Table activities but also translate into valuable assets in the professional world.
My own journey within Round Table South Africa allowed me to hone my leadership skills, and the support and mentorship I received from fellow members were invaluable. The organisation encourages members to step outside their comfort zones, take on leadership roles, and learn from both successes and failures. This approach fosters personal growth and self-confidence, creating leaders who are not only capable but also compassionate. Over my eleven years of involvement with Round Table South Africa, I've had the privilege of witnessing the tangible impact our organisation has made on local communities. From helping our communities to providing essential services to underprivileged individuals, Round Table's commitment to service has touched countless lives. However, the impact of Round Table extends beyond the projects themselves. It's about the connections we make, the lives we touch, and the positive change we bring about. The friendships formed within the organisation enable us to achieve more together than we ever could alone.
Round Table South Africa is more than just a community service organisation; it's a platform for building lifelong friendships and camaraderie while making a positive impact on society As a former Area Chairman who served for a decade, I can attest to the profound influence this organisation has had on my life and the lives of countless others Through shared experiences, leadership development, and a commitment to service, Round Table South Africa has created a close-knit community of friends who continue to make a difference in the world, long after their official roles have ended

Potchefstroom Animal Welfare Society is an organisation that provides the services of the SPCA in other towns across South Africa Myself and Jean-Paul Oliver, newly inducted members of Potchefstroom 47 launched this project as "Pipey's at P A W S " This Pipeliner Project was an idea of our table to get the Pipeliners more involved
So JP and I went to P.A.W.S. on the 29th of July to inspect the centre, we discovered that their Kennels needed some repairs.
We then had a couple of beers and discussed a proposal.
Our proposal was accepted by the members of our table and on Saturday the 21st of October we went down to Paws and had a few beers?
Jokes aside, the guy's jumped to work and we had our job cut out for us. The gents from 47 shaped and we got through the day disassembling the front of kennels and then reassembling them with new wire mesh whilst some of the residents there to get at us
We wanted to lock up our honourable Chairman in one of the kennels but he bribed us with some Boerewors rolls The spirit was high, the sun hot and somehow the beers were few
But after an awesome day with the guys we were all happy to get out of the sun and watch the rugby. We really had a good experience and some guy's and their better halves almost took some of the residents home.
Hannes VF LourensIn a spirited effort to blend camaraderie with a touch of healthy competition, Matlosane 45 embarked on a memorable journey by organising the first-ever Bar Olympics as part of the Movember campaign and co-part membership drive. What ensued was not just a success but a testament to the vibrant spirit of the Round Table.
The atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm as all ten teams eagerly took up the challenge, transforming the Bar Olympics into a resounding triumph. With beer pong, darts, and pool setting the stage, the knock-out style competition kept the participants on the edge of their seats.
The event served as a dynamic platform, not only for the existing members but also as a means to reach out to new faces As Round Table, we welcomed new acquaintances and forged connections with individuals who resonated with our mission
The exposure gained through the Bar Olympics extended beyond the bounds of the event itself A new guest is set to join our ranks at the next meeting, drawn in by the dynamic and engaging nature of the Bar Olympics It’s a testament to the success of the event in not just fostering fun but also in broadening our Round Table family
Heartfelt congratulations are in order for the deserving winners, marking the initiation of what promises to be an annual tradition. The Bar Olympics demonstrated that blending purpose with pleasure can yield remarkable results, and we look forward to raising the bar even higher in the years to come.
As the first chapter of our annual Bar Olympics concludes, we bid farewell with a resounding “Cheers!” and eagerly anticipate the next round of spirited competition and community building. Until then, see you next year for another round of unforgettable memories
The story behind this raid is impressive and remarkable. It all started at the Sabie Tube race, back in the beginning of February 2024. I ran into an old friend, Foxie Lieuwes from RT126 Middelburg, and then plans were made.
Initially I found myself inviting the Gents from RT126 to come and visit RT47 Potchefstroom During the day, I had so much fun hanging out with all of them, and it was a clear indication that friends were just made
However, I slipped up in the final stage of the race With a busy week and not a real acceptable excuse, I completely forgot to send an official letter for the raid This left me completely embarrassed as the sarge informed me halfway during the meeting and receiving correspondence of my mistake.
Obviously, I was in the wrong, but we had to move on and get over it. So, the best solution I could think of was to drive through the following week and apologize in person. The arrangements were made, and confirmations and invitations were corresponded correctly.
Then the day arrived. Myself, accompanied by Hannes Lourens made the trip down and sooner than later we made it to Middelburg. Upon arrival we were greeted graciously and made welcome immediately. We felt at home the moment we walked through the clubhouse doors
The proceedings went along without any hiccups and was chaired with the right decorum It was very insightful to sit in, and I admittedly gained a lot of insight and information Interesting discussions were made, and points were made about every topic One could see that everyone present wanted to be there and wanted to add or elaborate on the conversations
We want to thank all the guys for hosting us, as well as the honorable Chair for hosting us for the night in his home. We then additionally invite you to our home and clubhouse whenever you guys feel like traveling to Potchefstroom.
Once again I am grateful for this organisation and what it continues to offer me. This will for now and always be such a big privilege and an honour.

Carletonville 50's Christmas in November project, made possible by the funds raised at our recent golf day, was a heartening experience alongside the Rotalia Center for people with disabilities Our goal was simple: to share the holiday spirit with this special group in our community
The day was a blast! The Rotalia crew, along with their amazing staff, joined in the fun And guess what added a touch of magic? Christmas Vader's grand entrance in an ambulance from Gladiator Community Protection! It was a fantastic surprise that set the tone for a day filled with smiles and enjoyment
Everyone got presents – that was a must. But here's the thing: what these people really wanted was our time and love. We played games that had everyone laughing and having a blast. After a delicious lunch, we all gathered for a special moment – dancing to Bernice West's hit song "Die Here het ons mooi gemaak." It filled our hearts with joy and wrapped up the day on the happiest note.
This day wasn't just about the Rotalia crew; it was about all of us in the Carletonville 50 family. A big shoutout to businesses and community folks who got involved – whether by contributing or being part of the action. Your presence made this day extra special.
It's more than just a holiday event; it's a reminder that what everyone truly wants is our time and love A massive thank you to everyone who played a role in making this Christmas in November project a success The memories we created will linger, showcasing how simple acts of kindness and sharing time together can make a real impact in our community
The recent 41ers braai that we hosted was an incredibly significant and enjoyable event for our Table 41ers play an integral role in our Round Table journey as they are the torchbearers of the organization’s history and traditions Gathering with them allowed us to connect with the past, learn valuable lessons, and celebrate the enduring spirit of Round Table
41ers hold a special place in our hearts because they were the trailblazers who laid the foundations of tabling. Their wisdom and experiences offer us a treasure trove of knowledge, and the braai was a perfect opportunity to tap into their reservoir of insights. As a young and dynamic Round Table, we understand the importance of learning from those who walked the path before us.
The atmosphere at the braai was one of camaraderie and mutual respect. We were all eager to engage in conversations with the 41ers and learn from their rich experiences. Over sizzling grill and under the starry night sky, stories were shared, laughter echoed, and bonds were strengthened. It was heartwarming to see the generations come together with a common love for Round Table.
One of the most significant takeaways from the braai was the exchange of tips, tricks, and lessons that the 41ers shared with us. Their insights were invaluable, providing us with a deeper understanding of Round Table’s history, ethos, and the intricacies of its functioning We gained a sense of perspective that we could not have found elsewhere
The 41ers were pleasantly surprised at the transformation of our clubhouse We’ve made it our own while preserving its historical significance It’s a space that honors the past and celebrates the present, bridging the generations of Round Table This dual identity was a testament to our commitment to preserving the history and values that the 41ers had worked so hard to establish
The highlight of the evening was our joint celebration of Round Table’s enduring legacy We acknowledged the 41ers for their dedication and hard work, which have allowed us to thrive today It was a heartwarming moment, as we paid tribute to their contributions and expressed our gratitude.
In conclusion, the 41ers braai was a remarkable event that reminded us of the strength of our Round Table community. We can learn so much from those who built the foundation, and the braai was a perfect opportunity to celebrate their history while learning from it. It’s events like these that reaffirm the enduring spirit of Round Table and the power of intergenerational connections. We left the braai not only with full stomachs but also with hearts filled with respect, admiration WRITTEN B
Winning the Impact Award for our area alongside Wouter Dreyer is an incredible honor that has left me truly shocked and humbled. I must admit that I didn’t see it coming at all. It was one of those moments in life when you hear your name being called, and you can’t believe your ears
The journey to receiving this award was filled with countless moments of hard work and dedication However, after Mike, our area chairman, took the stage to read a long list of reasons why Wouter and I deserved this recognition, it was like a spark had been ignited within me It was a powerful reminder of why we do what we do in the first place, and it gave me the determination to continue to push myself even harder and maintain the level of work I’ve been putting in.
One aspect that adds to the significance of this award is the fact that, as one of the youngest tablers in terms of age, winning this award is a big deal for me It's a testament to the Idea that age should never be a limiting factor when it comes to making a meaningful Impact I hope that my journey and this recognition can serve as an inspiration to others, especially the younger members, showing them that with hard work and dedication, they too can achieve great things within our community
They often say that you get out what you put in, but I’ve come to believe that the rewards go far beyond what we invest The satisfaction and fulfilment derived from contributing to the betterment of our area and the lives of those we serve are immeasurable. It’s not just about the recognition; it’s about the difference we make collectively and the positive change we bring to the lives of others.
I also want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Wouter Dreyer. I can’t wait to hear his side of the story and learn about the impact he’s had on our community Sharing this award with him is a privilege, and I’m excited to continue working together to make even more significant contributions to our area and its people
In conclusion, winning the Impact Award for our area alongside Wouter Dreyer is a deeply gratifying experience that has reignited my passion for the work we do It serves as a reminder of the significance of our contributions and motivates me to work even harder I’m honored to be one of the youngest tablers to receive this recognition, and I hope to inspire others to follow their own paths of impact. Together, we’ll continue to make a real difference, proving that our collective efforts are indeed worth more than we can ever measure YIT - Melcolm van der Spuy
I thought I’d seen it all in our Matlosane Table meetings, but this one took the cake – or should I say, the chili-infused vodka. As you all know, the role of a sergeant at our meetings is crucial They help maintain order, keep us in line, and ensure the chairman can conduct the meeting smoothly But when Wouter Dreyer from Potch 47 decided to join our gathering, he took the concept of “sergeant” to a whole new level.
Our Matlosane Table has always been a bit on the talkative side, filled with creative minds that can’t seem to contain their ideas. Patience isn’t always our strong suit, and sometimes we just can’t wait our turn to speak Little did I know, Wouter had a plan to teach us a lesson He brought something to our meeting that no sergeant had ever dared to bring before – a massive bottle of vodka, and not just any vodka, mind you. This was vodka that had been fermenting with the hottest chilies for months. You can probably guess where this is going.
As the first “straffie” (punishment shot) was handed out to me, it was immediately clear that we were in for something truly spicy The look on my face said it all, and the rest of us were left in a mix of shock and amusement Wouter, you certainly lived up to the name of being a sergeant.
The rest of the meeting was a rollercoaster of emotions, from laughter to tears (of laughter, mostly). Each time someone spoke out of turn or got a little too enthusiastic with their ideas, they were met with a fiery “straffie ” It was all in good fun, but we quickly learned to wait our turn and keep our ideas in check
Wouter’s unconventional approach to being a sergeant turned that meeting into one for the books. We’ll never forget the day that we got a taste of his chili-infused vodka discipline. It just goes to show, when it comes to Round Table, you can always expect the unexpected – and maybe a little bit of heat! Thanks, Wouter, for making that meeting unforgettable
Winning the ARTSA Travel Draw with Matlosane 45 was an exhilarating moment, one that filled me with excitement and anticipation. The prize, an opportunity to explore the beautiful city of Tienen in Belgium, was a dream come true for all of us It’s a journey that has been filled with serendipity and a twist of fate
The path to this remarkable win was a unique one At the Tri-Area event, Melcolm van der Spuy, our dedicated STNOFS International Relations Officer, had the responsibility of conducting the draw. The irony was not lost on us – a member of Matlosane 45 orchestrating the draw for our group Little did we know that fate had something special in store for us that day
Finally, after numerous attempts, our persistence paid off Our luck shone brightly, and Matlosane 45 emerged as the victors of the ARTSA Travel Draw. It was a moment of sheer joy and disbelief. The prospect of embarking on a journey to Tienen in Belgium was a chance to connect with fellow Round Table members from across the world, experience different cultures, and make lasting memories
In the spirit of keeping things fair and exciting, we conducted another draw at our Table meeting a few weeks later to determine who would be the lucky traveler. The anticipation in the room was palpable, and as fate would have it, I was the one whose name was drawn I couldn’t contain my excitement, knowing that this incredible opportunity was now within reach
Traveling for Round Table has always been a dream of mine, and I’m eager to represent Matlosane 45 and STNOFS on this international adventure. It’s an opportunity not only to explore new places but also to strengthen the bonds within the Round Table community The experiences and knowledge gained on this journey will undoubtedly contribute to our collective growth and understanding I’m committed to keeping everyone updated on our travels, sharing our experiences, and showcasing the impact of Round Table worldwide. This journey is not just about the destination; it’s about the connections we make, the lessons we learn, and the memories we create
As I prepare for this exciting adventure, I want to express my gratitude for this incredible opportunity and the support of my fellow Matlosane 45 members. I look forward to sharing the stories and experiences that will undoubtedly shape our journey in Tienen, Belgium. Stay tuned for more updates on this amazing Round Table expedition!
Having Potch 47 and Carletonville 50 join our Matlosane 45 meeting was a memorable and heartwarming occasion that brought together three remarkable Round Table tables. The event was significant as it not only highlighted the bonds we share as tablers but also involved the handover of the prestigious “Sasolburg Bokkie” from Carletonville 50
Gathering three respected tables – Matlosane 45, Potch 47, and Carletonville 50 – under one roof was a true testament to the unity that defines Round Table. Potch 47, represented by the STNOFS Area Chairman, graced us with an inspiring speech, reminding us of the importance of our collective efforts and the impact we can make when we work together Carletonville 50, led by Dale, made quite the entrance by ‘raiding’ us and presenting the “Sasolburg Bokkie ” It was a light-hearted yet competitive gesture that showcased the friendly rivalry and camaraderie that exists within Round Table. As we accepted the “Bokkie,” it served as a symbol of the ongoing exchange of camaraderie and support among our tables
The "Sasolburg Bokkie" Is a cherished token in Round Table, and as its new custodians, we are excited to continue this tradition. We know that other tables will be eager to reclaim it, but we are ready to uphold the honor and the spirit of the “Bokkie” within our table. This handover was a reminder that in Round Table, the fun and camaraderie go hand in hand with our commitment to community service
Having essentially 80% of the STNOFS Council gathered at the same table meeting was an impressive sight It reinforced our commitment to the Round Table cause and the collective strength that we, as a council, bring to the table. The exchange of ideas, experiences, and the sense of camaraderie among the council members was truly invaluable
This Chairman’s visit was more than just a formal meeting; it was a celebration of our Round Table family It showcased the spirit of unity, collaboration, and the genuine friendships that we build as tablers. We left the meeting with renewed enthusiasm, ready to uphold the legacy of the “Sasolburg Bokkie,” and excited to see what the future holds for our three tables
As we move forward, we do so with a shared sense of purpose and an unwavering commitment to serving our communities. Together, we’ll make a difference and continue to celebrate the bonds of friendship that define Round Table Here’s to more meetings and shared memories with Potch 47 and Carletonville 50 in the future

Ladies and gentlemen, there are moments in life when the ordinary transforms into the extraordinary. When a community comes together with a shared purpose, magic happens. Such was the case with our recent “Bowling for Boobies” Breast Cancer Roll Bowls day, a phenomenal event that left us humbled, inspired, and utterly elated. This day was a testament to the incredible power of unity, a coming together of hearts, and a collective determination to make a difference in the fight against breast cancer. With the support of OFM, our event was a roaring success that exceeded our wildest expectations
The excitement started building from day one as we opened registrations, and within just two weeks, we had sold out all 28 teams of four The enthusiasm was palpable, and the participation of teams from all corners of Klerksdorp, ranging from private groups to local businesses, was a sight to behold The Klerksdorp community united for a common cause – to roll back breast cancer
As we looked out on the greens, there was a mesmerizing wave of pink that swept across the landscape It was a powerful visual symbol of our unwavering support for breast cancer awareness Each participant, each team, and every supporter wore pink proudly, showing their commitment to this crucial cause
The day of the event arrived, and it was nothing short of spectacular OFM was right there with us, broadcasting live, adding an electrifying atmosphere to the day. Our master of ceremonies, the indomitable Shandor, kept the spirits high and the laughter flowing. The camaraderie among the teams, each one with their unique style and flair, made for an unforgettable experience.
The sound of bowls rolling gracefully across the green, the cheers and applause, and the friendly competition filled the air with an infectious energy. It was a day where the love for the sport and the love for the cause became one. But the magic didn’t stop there. It soared to new heights during our auction. We watched in awe as the generosity of the community reached extraordinary levels. The items up for grabs were donated by local businesses and individuals, and the bids were nothing short of astounding. The financial support was overwhelming, and it became apparent that we had the makings of something truly extraordinary.
When the last gavel struck, and the final bid was announced, the total amount raised was more than we could have ever anticipated – a staggering R135,500. Every Rand of it was dedicated to CANSA, an organization at the forefront of the battle against breast cancer.
This event was not just about bowls; it was about making a real, tangible impact in the fight against breast cancer. It was about rallying as a community to support the warriors and survivors, to provide resources for early detection and treatment, and to contribute to the crucial research needed to conquer this devastating disease
Our “Bowling for Boobies” Breast Cancer Roll Bowls day is a shining example of the immense power of unity It shows what can be achieved when a community comes together with a common goal and an unwavering commitment to make a difference We not only had an incredible day of fun and laughter, but we also took a significant step towards a future where breast cancer is no longer a threat
To all those who participated, to the businesses and individuals who donated, to OFM for their fantastic support, and to our spirited MC, Shandor, we say thank you Thank you for being a part of something truly extraordinary Thank you for helping us make a real impact in the fight against breast cancer And thank you for reminding us that when a community unites, incredible things happen.
The round Table Potchefstroom 47 has an annual event which they call they call the Chicken Braai and this year the event took place on Saturday the 04th of November 2023
This project is not there to raise funds for the public but could be seen as the yearly party and an opportunity to raise a bit of funds for the clubhouse. The idea is that all the members of RT47 come together at the clubhouse and have a massive party and day with our friends, family and loved ones.
We call it the Chicken Braai because that is exactly what we do… We braai chickens for an entire day whilst having fun and staying hydrated around the fires. It is always a massive success as we are joined by the local Rotary Club and past Tablers or 41ers.
Since this was attempt number two, it was a bit of a confusing story as we ran around to finalize everything after we were forced to postpone the original date. However, in true Tabler spirit we were all eager to help and assist to make sure that the show would go on. This for me personally showed our dedication and commitment to our projects as it is sometimes difficult to continue with a tradition if one skipped a year or two.
Regardless, on that fine Saturday morning, the gents rocked up at roughly 07h00 to start preparations for the day. The mood and atmosphere were already lively as for most, it was their first time at a Chicken Braai. Décor went up, tables were set, fires were burning, and the music filled the air of our little piece of earth in Potchefstroom. We were eager to get this show on the road and waited patiently for the clock to strike 12h00 and for the guest to start pulling in
Not sure if it is because of their age or their well learned manners, but our first wave of people were the past Tablers or 41ers They always support with great passion and commitment, and we rewarded them with a quick Jaggie and a cold drink to mingle with We had the opportunity to exchange stories about their previous event at the Chicken Braai and caught up with what was going on in their lives
Soon the tides changed, and we were suddenly filled with people attending from here, there, and everywhere The party have begun and we as the convenors were in the heart of it
We started to line up our fires and grilles for what laid ahead, 150 pieces of Chubby Chick Chickens The smell enticed the people attending to join the conversations at the fires and they soon became experts on the perfect cooked chicken Luckily for us, the gents from RT47 were up for the challenge and we did not need to many pointers. The ladies began serving up plates with a variety of salads and rolls and we put the main attraction on top as it was the only space left on the plate.
The day continued with laughter and stories and full bellies all over. Children were running around and playing with their mates they knew and those they just met. It was a joyful occasion and heartwarming to see that a simple thing like this could attract so many people at once who shared our passion and love for each other and the Table. Daytime turned into nighttime or rather almost daytime again and people slowly made their way to their transport units after a massive party at the bar. Compliments were received and gratefulness were returned on the way out. Takeaways were taken with as most people could not have finished such a plate. The gents came together for one last round as we took in what we just accomplished and appreciated each other and the work we did. Followed with a quick and powerful cleanup, we locked the doors and parted our ways for a good sleep. It is confirmed that it was truly a massive success, and we want to thank all who attended and helped with making the day possible.
Y i T - Wouter DreyerBe assured that the Round Table Potchefstroom 47 Chicken Braai will remain a tradition and an event and we want to already invite all of you for the Chicken Braai of 2024
With very few notice and with very few time to plan an expedition, the Gents of RT47 made a week happen like no other… To give a short backstory, Christer from RT47 Karlstad in Sweden was a temporary honorary member for two years in Potchefstroom when his wife decided to come and study again at the NWU. Seeing that we were a sister club for him, the 41er spend the years of 2021 & 2022 with us before they headed back to Sweden to resume normal life.
So when the man from the north rang us up to inform us that he will be attending with his wife for her graduation, we quickly made a plan to host them and give them a jolly old good time. They arrived on a Monday morning in Potchefstroom and got some sleep in before we met up with them to have a fun braai, which they obviously missed a lot and caught up on all that is currently happening in their lives in their homeland. We exchanged stories and reminisced about the past as we enjoyed a feast and social gathering. It can be said that this was however the peaceful evening as Maggie was scheduled to be at the university early Tuesday morning
Graduation Day! While some of us had to work or had other responsibilities to attend to, the Swedes had a fun day at the NWU and obviously the main attraction was to graduate as well We met up with them shortly afterwards and then we felt like celebration was in order Tables were pushed together, and 16 friends had dinner, drinks, and fun with the mindset of having our family back The night was beautiful and so much fun! We celebrated each other, and Maggy especially, enjoyed each other and were thankful for what we had in this moment
Then it was Wednesday Whilst the two travellers slept in, the rest of us again had to work or had other responsibilities for the day But the evening there was no such thing and plans were again made to spoil and treat our friends We decided that you can never get enough meat in from a braai, and the plan was formed to make homemade burgers with a side dish of corn, which is obviously fitting for Potchefstroom. Once again, we discussed all thing possible and had fun whilst doing so. We forgot about time, and we just lived for the moment.
After Wednesday comes Thursday and Thursday means Meeting Day. For a special treat, we arranged that we should have our social meeting then and there to accommodate our old brother and to show him that we are still going strong. We made a point of it to invite all the comrades he Tables with as well as the new faces on the block. You could see it was a very special moment for Christer and that he truly enjoyed the meeting aspect extremely so. We had the opportunity to ask him through the Table to address the youngsters on international travel and to encourage such ventures. Weekend showed up and for one last time we had the privilege to host for one last gathering. After the night before, the tally was a bit lower, but the impact remained the same. Good old-fashioned steaks with chips and beer were served and a feast was had once more. It was sad to think of the flight back the following day, but we limited those emotions till the very end.
It was good to see our family again and to enjoy such an impulsive week with them in our town all the way across the dam. It was well deserved for us all and heartwarming too. Showcasing once again that with Table everything is possible and that relationships will never fade Promises were made to talk more often and to join for an impulsive week in the north and I plan on
After a long year in the Stroom, there is nothing better than to end the year on a positive note and in high spirts. For us, we do it a bit different than the rest and break normal traditions So, what does this all mean? Well, it is quite easy we do not opt for the normal black tie gala dinner or just a casual braai we do things differently!
It all began 26 years ago when the old farts came up with the idea to go for a dress up theme party The first theme was the letter “A”, dressing up accordingly with things that link up with the letter “A”. Now after 26 years we ended the year, and the long-standing tradition with the letter “Z”.
Now we have established the theme, and the date was set for Saturday the 2nd of December. The plan was also forged and at sharply16h00 we all gathered at the RT47 clubhouse for mimosas / mimozaz and a beautiful Northwest sundowner To say that people dressed up would be an understatement because they were dressed to the nines! Zondo Commisionbreakouts, Zebra’s, Zookeepers, Mr & Mrs Zeus and Zohan were there, and only to have named a few
Then we started travelling to our first pitstop of the evening, which was the Elgro Hotel in the heart of town We rocked up there in our convoy and immediately received our drinks by the pool. As it was almost 50 degrees, it seemed fitting to jump in for a quick dip in clothes and all. To speak honestly… we were all inside roughly 5 minutes after getting there.
Up next was starters, hosted at yours truly, the Wouts himself. Since I moved in the day before there was still many boxes around and empty cupboards, but when have that ever stopped a party? With fold up tables on the patio and the fire burning hot, the vibe was inevitable, and joy was spread all around The dish, Mieliez and Sozatiez, was available as finger eats and feet were made through the que for a lovely appetizer
Party bus is leaving! My catchphrase for the evening as people made it to the cars for pitstop number two Impala Hotel was just around the corner, and again upon arrival the drinks were already on the tables. To my recognition we took over the show and became the primary focus of the night. We were asked about our getups and why we would do such a thing… because we can and because we are tablers. Then I chanted again and we moved along to the Menezes Household With a similar situation as myself, the Menezes household was also not 100% fit for hosting such a massive party You see they were busy with an unexpected renovation, as the contractors squeezed them in just before years end Nevertheless, a party was planned and a party we shall have! The place looked beautiful, and I must admit that they went all out with their theme of being Mr & Mrs Zeus with a real Greek atmosphere Traditional food was served with the local drink being Zorba. We enjoyed ourselves and feasted properly as a family while having fun whilst doing so.
On the road again to our final pitstop the party continued. Just to let the food settle, we enjoyed a quick Zombie Jam Jar at another local watering whole called Dia Bedabos. Once again, we took over the show as 20+ individuals took the center stage as we enjoyed each other’s company and recognition of the night and years success
With midnight creeping closer and closer, we had no choice than to head back to the clubhouse Being a South African used to loadshedding, the 6 battery operated lights worked overtime and the portable speaker worked in overdrive Yet, the party / show did go on For dessert, a Zebra looking brownie was served and that sugar sure did its trick to boost some of our guest’s energy levels
From line dancing to singing along with the greats, we made sure to see the sunrise on that Sunday morning. With all of us being a bit tired and energized simultaneously, we enjoyed the company of each other for one last time as we looked over the horizon too see a Northwester sunrise.
Looking back over the event, I can’t help smiling as I write this article This is what true Tabler spirt feels like to me All of us reaping the reward of an amazing year To recogni my night abd year with these legends, and Y.i.T
